Cowboys make MULTIPLE Moves - Major Cowboys Updates...
Oct 18, 2026
The Dallas Cowboys have made multiple moves ahead
of their Sunday night football matchup
versus the Green Bay Packers.
And while they are on their flight to Wisconsin,
one key player on defense is not joining them
as we have the official announcement
on a specific injury on defense that continues
in a line in a history of disappointments
in the injury facet for this player, DeMar
vion Overshown.
So we talk about that and so much more
all here today on Cowboys Digest.
I want to say a quick thank you to everybody
for supporting the show as of late, watching,
tuning in and of course commenting liking whatever it might
be I want to say thank you from the
bottom of my heart you are allowing me
to do this job every day and i really do appreciate it but
let's get to the news we'll be live tomorrow for the game
and unfortunately Demarvion Overshown
will not be there he was officially ruled out
for the game against the Green Bay Packers i guess
officially is a loose term we know he's officially ruled out
because he's not on the flight now we
again don't have the official confirmation from the Cowboys
and all that stuff but we do know
that Overshown not on the flight to Green Bay he
is going to be ruled out for the game again not
officially yet will be and this is obviously
a huge huge blow not just to the defense but just
to the confidence I've had in Demarvion Overshown
that he can actually stay healthy across a period
of time it seems like every time we put him out
here ultimately it leads to an injury now the
Cowboys also made some other moves they elevated Darion Kendrick
and safety Wanya Thomas which
talk about and the reasoning behind doing
that in today's show along with an injury update on
Joey Porter which is intriguing as well lots
of news to get to before that though i do want to
let you know that you should go out there
and trade on Calshi guys because it is growing faster

and sign up for one of the fastest growing trade markets in all of the
world we appreciate Calshi
for sponsoring today's show schottenheimer kind of gave us a little bit
of a warning on this um we knew that it was a long shot for both him
and kobe durant to play
yesterday they hours later ruled out kobe durant
as soon as that news came about now we know that
marvion overshown is also not going to be on the flight
not going to be playing tomorrow for the
Dallas Cowboys and it does kind of change up the linebacker depth
and I'm curious to see what
happens obviously first game with after the you know full team meeting
and on top of which Mike
Pettine going to have his first time being
the defensive assistant that will be there helping
out Christian Parker but more importantly some
interesting notes on the linebacker room as a
whole now that is more
or less on the fact that Jayshon Barham was seen with the edge rushers
this week and we know that Malachi Lawrence is going
to be getting more reps and roles this week
doesn't mean that Malachi is going to the middle linebacker area
but I would be intrigued to see
if he gets a couple of snaps in the middle linebackers space
and if Jay Sean Barham gets
a couple of snaps in the edge room space now
that'd be kind of interesting if you said hey
this edge rusher is going to play middle
linebacker and then by week five you're saying
actually no we're going to flip that and play it this way
but I still think that this is a time
where you could do it and obviously especially since you
were talking so much this week about
defensive changes now's the time you can do it
so I trust Jayshon in the middle linebacker position
but who knows if that's the case inside
the Dallas Cowboys organization.
Their 2-3 could really, really use a win.
I'm not going to say, again, this is a must-win,
and I think this is a case scenario where you can go out there
and just play your best game, and I feel as though you should win.
So that's a big thing there.
So not traveling to Green Bay means he is officially out.
Going to have to see D. Winters, Jayshon Barham, Shamar James,
all of them take on bigger linebacker roles, maybe Malakai.
Lawrence takes on somewhat of a middle linebacker role.
I doubt it, but who knows?
Obviously, there's a lot of things kind of going
on in the mind of Christian Parker for this game.
Not to say his job is on the line, but it's certainly more at a lens,
a looking lens than ever before after the hiring of Mike Pettine.
Now you got to go out there and you got to compete.
And so it's a tough game because the Packers just really,
really put it on the Bears
in terms of the air raid offense.
And unfortunately, it might get a little harder for Christian Parker.
Now, I hopefully this is nothing,
but Joey Porter Jr. is now questionable.
after an ankle injury he suffered
in practice uh he had supposedly been fine all week and then
rolled his ankle um in the last day of practice
which does kind of suck uh now we'll see whether
or not you know he ends up playing i highly expect
that he should be good in fact literally just
before the injury happened yesterday Christian Parker
was talking about how his workload is
going to be highly increased here against the Packers
so I'm intrigued if that still stays the
case given he did roll his ankle even
if he does play tomorrow are they going to fully increase it
and potentially put that ankle at more risk I don't know
for certain what I do know is that
the cornerback room is going to be very much looked
at I'm talking to Deron Bland because that
guy is one play away from making me cut him send him to somewhere else
because I cannot deal with
what he is putting on the field
and the product that he is playing right now,
especially alongside when you think about Shevon Revelle Jr.
and what he's doing, it's tough.
And especially
when you think about Christian Parker being a DB's coach,
you expect more out of your cornerbacks.
It's not the case.
Great job for Caleb Downs, but everybody else, question marks.
Really, really hope Joey Porter Jr. can play pretty decent
against the Packers in his history.
But we'll see what ends up transpiring.
Now, Wednesday, he was limited.
Of course, he had come back from an illness that took him out
of the Thursday night football game the last time.
full participant on Thursday
and then of course suffered that injury on Friday that made him
limited and questionable and we still don't know
as for you know what exactly we can see here now
i do want to go to a comment here from Richard
um kind of interesting JPJ was a steal unless he
keeps coming up with an injury for instance sick
or an ankle injury oh wait richard i'm i wasn't
there with you with you last week i'm starting
to get that way now this week which does kind of
second one other thing that they did
was elevate Darien Kendrick for this game a cornerback
Kendrick is a guy that I thought was actually going
to make the 53 man roster so I'm happy
that he is the one getting the elevation
and probably does tell you a little bit about
the status of Joey Porter
and how much they you know are worried about that I want to say that
you know this is also just the fact that they have had
so many injuries in the cornerback room
and also Kobe Durant being out is probably more
the reason for Darien Kendrick but when you add
And the fact they're also bringing up Wanya Thomas
for the safeties, it's intriguing.
Now, Darien, again, like a guy that I really thought
was going to play for this team on the active roster.
He didn't really play much last year,
but in the times he played, it was fantastic.
Two interceptions last year for the champion, the Seattle Seahawks.
So we don't know to the extent of what his, you know,
level of play is going to be, how much he will play and all of that.
But I think we can obviously sit here and think that this is a time
where you wouldn't be shocked with some practice squad guys
Not only getting the elevation,
but also getting some playing time as well.
And the depth is certainly something to look at.
Kobe Durant is out. Joey P.J. is questionable.
So you get a little bit of a boost.
This is the first or rather the second
of three straight primetime games for the Dallas Cowboys
as they face off against the Packers here on Sunday Night Football.
They'll go to Monday Night Football the next week
on October 26th against the Eagles.
and they'll have back-to-back noon games,
two of three of their noon games in this season.
So some definitely big primetime games coming.
Hopefully they can be up for the task.
Want to talk about Wanya Thomas as well.
He gets another opportunity.
Thomas was a guy who we had talked about
and the potential of signing him
when all the safety injuries started.
They ended up making that move.
And of course, now he gets his first elevation
of the 2026 season.
If we can get him back to his 2025 form,
you think you're pretty solid.
actually looked pretty solid
when we saw him in fact had some good games last year specifically
when you look at you know the the game against
the the Kansas City Chiefs it was really solid so
I think there's definitely some hope that you can kind
of see that in a way I am intrigued for the
safety room because I want to say they should
be under a looking glass as well as much as the
cornerbacks in a lot of ways
but it's definitely a work in progress in the entirety of the secondary
Looking at the safeties in specific, though,
you've got Marquis Spell and Caleb Downs and Jalen Thompson,
Again, looking like everybody's getting back to their healthy form,
so that's great.
But the role to watch is definitely there.
Which defensive backs are active?
Can they avoid playing the inexperienced corners in Darien Kendrick?
And, of course, putting out there Shavon Revel would be not great,
and we'll see what we can get some special teams guys out of this.
Let us know in the comments section
who steps up in this game against Green Bay.
Is it Darien Kendrick? Is it Wanya Thomas?
or if JPJ is going to be the one to step up,
let us know down in the comments section.
I appreciate it.
I also want to go to one final comment again
if you want to get your comment on the video.
Comment on today's show.
But Gerald Stone saying,
I'm not getting fired up for the Cowboys pulling an upset.
They looked lame last week at home
and once Green Bay makes a few plays
and gets their crowd fired up.
It's going to be hard for the Cowboys to do that.
Hope them wrong.
But this year appears to be another letdown.
Hope I'm wrong.
You know, there's one thing about Cowboys fans
and myself that I love.
Every week I say how much I hate this team,
how much they let me down
and how frustrated I am.
And yet every Sunday, I'm sat right here
in front of y'all, watching the game,
streaming it, and I'm going to do the same
thing tomorrow, and I'm going to have hope.
So, I'm not going to lose hope, and I hope you won't either.
JPJ, please play.
Please. Appreciate you watching, guys.
We'll see you next time here, and we'll see you
tomorrow morning for a little bit of a last-minute news and rumors
video, and then tomorrow night,
6 p.m. Central Time, maybe 6:15.
We're going to be live here on Cowboys
Digest for the Packers versus
the Cowboys in what is a very big game.
We'll appreciate you watching. See you next time.
Peace out.
