AI GeneratedThis episode of the Timberwolves Digest covers key roster updates for the Minnesota Timberwolves, focusing on the contract situation of Rudy Gobert, the potential growth and trade value of Terrence Shannon Jr., and recent preseason roster additions.
So today we begin with multiple Timberwolves updates.
This has major implications as Rudy Gobert's contract, believe
it or not, is coming up.
And of course, there's already a lot of talk about either a
trade or a contract extension.
We're also going to talk about Terrence Shannon, Jr.
And will he get more minutes this year?
And is Terrence Shannon, Jr.
actually on the NBA trading block as well?
Welcome back to the Timberwolves Digest as always, North America.
I'm Dave DePauw and I bring you the latest Minnesota Timberwolves
news, trade reports, trade rumors, and of course, a whole lot of commentary.
Now, if you are new to the Timberwolves Digest, please go ahead and subscribe.
And I always like to say, if you like the pod, well then go ahead and like it.
Uh, we have a couple other things that we will cover
today on the Timberwolves Digest.
We also have some news about the preseason team and a couple of
signings around that, which we'll get to in just a little bit.
But I did want to start off today with Rudy Gobert.
Now you all know if you've been following the Timberwolves Digest for a while, I'm
actually a huge fan of Gobert's and quite frankly, I cannot wait to see how
Lumelo Ball actually improves Gobert's game.
Now we're going to talk about whether or not the Timberwolves should go
ahead and resign Gobert or trade him.
He's got one year left on his contract after this season.
And by the way, it is a player option.
I just wanted to lay all of that out there for you.
Love to get what your thoughts, your opinions are.
Should the Wolves go ahead and trade Gobert this year?
Drop your comments in.
I want to know what you think.
Now, uh, over the past 12 months, the Timberwolves have turned
back trade interest in Gobert.
Uh, he has a player option, as I mentioned for 38 million bucks.
Uh, next season, this year is going to make $36.5 million, which seems like a
fair price now for Gobert when we consider all of the things that Tim Connolly did
give up when he took his big swing at bringing Gobert to this Minnesota Timberwolves team.
Now, often I talk about Rudy Gobert sort of being one of the most disrespected
people in the NBA, which makes absolutely no sense.
When you think about what Gobert has meant to this Minnesota Timberwolves
organization since arriving, you simply can just take a look at who was in the
Western conference finals two out of the last three years.
And yes, Gobert is horrible at the free throw line.
And I know that.
And I'm not myopic when it comes to Rudy Gobert's strengths and weaknesses.
But one of the things that I absolutely love about Gobert is all the little things
that he can actually do for a basketball team, which makes me super excited to
actually see what Gobert is going to be like when he has a true point guard, like
a Lomelo.
We know how good Gobert was with Mike Connolly when Mike Connolly was in his
prime.
I am just saying, we're going to talk about Terrence Shannon Jr.
Next and a couple other things as well.
So do you all know what actually ruins a great outfit?
Well, the answer to that question is an old beat up belt that quite
frankly, hasn't fit right in years.
That's why I'm super excited today to have Anson Belt and Buckle as the sponsor
of today's video.
Instead of holes, Anson uses a micro adjustable track system with quarter inch
increments.
So your belt fits perfectly every single time.
And I am telling you right now, once you experience that kind of fit and comfort,
trust me, you'll never want to go back to wearing a regular belt again.
Now I've been wearing mine nonstop since I got it.
And honestly, it is the best belt that I've actually ever had.
Once you try it, trust me, you'll never go back to your old belts again.
And if you're wondering why you should trust them, well, this is a company that's
still proudly family owned and operated and has earned over 40,000 five-star
reviews like this one from Chad M.
They back their belts with a lifetime guarantee on functionality.
They stand behind every product they make.
And once you get one, you'll see why.
And because Anson Belt and Buckle is sponsoring today's video, when you click
the link in the description or scan the QR code to build a box set, you'll get two
bonus pieces, a buckle and a strap completely free.
That's three buckles, three straps, which can be mixed and matched into nine unique
belt combos all in one box.
It's an exclusive deal you won't get anywhere else.
So click the link, build your set and upgrade your belt game today.
So look at this point, I think the hidden secret of a young up and coming Minnesota
Timberwool player in one Terrence Shannon Jr.
Well, that secret is out, especially if you consider what he actually has pulled
off at times in the last year and a half throughout his career.
Now, one of the big issues for Terrence Shannon Jr.
last season and why he didn't actually take that major leap forward was, of course, all
of the small little nagging injuries.
With all of that now behind Terrence Shannon Jr., I believe that this season is he's
going to actually get more playing time, certainly with the second unit.
There is a nod of confidence from his coach in knowing how best his game fits at the
NBA level right now.
Now, Terrence Shannon Jr.
tends to be a little bit ball dominant.
In other words, he needs to actually have the ball in order to be successful.
That, of course, is something that TJ is going to need to work on.
And, of course, head coach Chris Finch and the Minnesota coaching staff are well aware
of those deficiencies.
Terrence Shannon Jr.
is one of those players that I'm sure when Tim Connolly gets calls about other players,
they always ask about TJ because most people who are involved in the National Basketball
Association see what I see, see what a lot of you Timberwolves fans probably see as well,
which is a player, if he was given 30 minutes a night, probably could be a 20 point plus
player.
And he's also dynamic and he also is the kind of player that fans want to root for.
So I would love to see Terrence Shannon Jr.
is not going to get 30 minutes, but I would love to see him get a solid 20 plus minutes
per game in this upcoming season.
I would love to see a reason for a lot of other teams to be inquiring about the services
of one TJ.
I would love to see TJ also stay healthy for the upcoming season.
If he can do all of those things, then I think the Timberwolves will be in a good spot as
it relates to TJ, whether or not they trade him and or keep him.
Julius Bernard, Jules Bernard signed to the Wolves preseason roster.
This doesn't come as a surprise.
He did a bang up job for the Iowa Wolves last year.
He had a two way contract that he signed with the Timberwolves in February.
So it will be interesting to see where all of that heads at the start of this season.
But he will be with the Timberwolves during the upcoming training camp, which is a good
thing. By the way, he averaged 22 points with the Iowa Wolves in 45 appearances last
season. All right, that's all I've got for you today on the Timberwolves Digest.
Thanks so much for tuning in.
As always, North America, I'm Dave DeBob wishing you all a tremendous rest of your
sports viewing day.
