Raiders make SURPRISING move... This is INSANE

The Raiders just made a shocking move cutting a receiver
who scored three touchdowns this season
and in the same move they have brought a tight end back off
the injured reserve. Multiple insiders
have just revealed that the Raiders have officially released Cody White
and in a corresponding move
Carter Runyon has been activated.
And if you're a Raiders fan based on what I've seen on social
media over the last couple minutes since this came out
your first reaction is probably the same as
Time is mine.
Why?
Now this is the team that did start 3-0, now they currently sit at 4-4,
so you'd think that everybody in the receiving room probably matters.
So let me show you exactly what happened with Cody White,
who Carter Runyan is, and why this move is a little confusing to fans.
Let's start with how White got here.
Over games 2-5, he had 13 targets, 7 catches, 108 yards, and 3...
Touchdowns that is three touchdowns on seven catches for a guy
in a one year deal worth $890,000 and quickly before we get
into some more numbers and why it is a confusing move a quick reminder

Thank you so much for the
support on the channel, guys. I really appreciate it.
I'm gonna do my best to continue to bring you
guys daily updates on everything that's happening
with this team. But let's get back into Cody
White. Those touchdowns that he did score, they actually matter a lot.
Only Brock Bowers with
five and Trey Tucker with four have more this season.
White is tied with Ashton Jeanty at 3.
Levi Dombro put it best.
White helped the Raiders out to a 3-0 start this season.
But check this out.
Even while the touchdowns were piling up,
the volume was never really there.
Through 8 games this season, White has 19 targets this season.
That ranks 6th on the Raiders.
Bowers has 61.
Now, on the other side of the split,
over his last 3 games, Cody White had
Five targets one catch four yards and no touchdowns. That's
right. That is not a typo. Four yards.
Four yards across three games.
And that is exactly the argument for the cut.
And that is what I saw immediately on social media.
And you could see here the amazing start,
then the lack of producing lately.
So the Raiders ended up letting him go.
Also, to be clear, that is from Raiders lead.
And that is not the Las Vegas Raiders saying that was the reason.
But we can all put it together that that was.
Probably the reason.
And we probably should have maybe seen
this coming earlier in the day today
because White was missing from practice earlier today,
according to Sam Warren and Ryan McFadden.
Now, again, maybe we didn't need to read too much into that.
I mean, Darian Porter is still out with an injury he missed practice too.
We're going to get an update on that probably tomorrow
from head coach Clint Kubiak.
But Dombro did say that White posted
a story on his Instagram the night before.
So it does sound like he saw this move coming.
Now let's zoom out for a second
and look at the entire landscape and the story here with this
player. If you look at games two through five of this season,
the stretch where White was producing
the Raiders scored 26, 35, 27, and 17.
That is 105 points in four games. Now in the last three
Three games where White had four yards total,
the Raiders scored 30, 21, and
And 38, that is 89 points, almost 30 points a game.
So the offense certainly didn't fall apart without him.
They're continuing to score 30 points a game without him.
And with his production dropping,
you could see a world where the Raiders were like, all
right, we're going to make the cut.
And again, that is the strongest case for the Raiders here.
If the passing game is working,
a slot receiver with one catch is not a thing to be holding
it backward to keep around.
Now, that is where some confusion
is starting to bubble in the fan base.
A lot of people are asking questions about...
Thornton now.
What, you know, is going to happen there?
But also the Raiders problem is not scoring.
The Raiders main problem is defense.
In their last four games,
the Raiders have given up 45 points to the Patriots, 33 to
the Bills, 35 to the Rams, and 33 to the Jets.
That is 146 points allowed in four games,
which works out to 36 and a half.
And you can make the argument that it does feel a little bit weird
because this is a guy that was performing at one point
and it's a one for one swap,
a receiver for a tight end and no changes to the defense yet.
I guess we'll find out what happens in the next few days.
Also to note, White's deal is $890,000 for the year
and releasing him leaves $68,000 in dead money. That is almost nothing.
So this wasn't necessarily about saving money.
This was all about a roster spot
and what the Raiders want to do with that spot.
And some would speculate
and argue that the receiver room wasn't even that deep to begin
with.
Obviously, you have Trey Tucker,
you have Jalen Naylor, and then there's a lot of other
names as well in terms of depth.
But Tucker has 471 yards.
Naylor has 113.
White's 112.
We're right behind Naylor.
Now I'm sure we're going to get some more updates
the rest of the way during this week
heading into the game on Sunday.
You know, there's a big question mark in terms of who replaces him.
So we'll find out in the next couple
of days what they're planning to do.
That being said, though, again,
the offense is not necessarily starving for production
right now.
Kirk Cousins threw for 313 yards against Buffalo,
295 against the Rams and 247 against the Jets.
So why make this move and why right now?
And here's the most likely reason.
It is because they wanted to clear up a roster spot.
When a player comes off of the injured reserve,
he needs a spot on the active roster.
So that means someone has to go.
And they made two moves at once, like I mentioned before.
White out.
And a lot of people speculating whether he'll
be added to the practice squad or not.
We'll see how that goes tomorrow.
And Runyan is in.
That reports describe them as, you know,
a move that happened at the same time.
So it could have been anybody else on the roster.
But if you look at White's production as of late.
He looks like the easy answer right now.
One catch in three games and his contract is so small
that there's barely a dent in dead money.
The real cost though is not money.
It's that you lose a guy in a position
that you're already kind of thin at,
which could lend to the trade deadline coming up next week.
Could there be a trade in the works?
So now the other half of the move, Carter Runyon.
He is a tight end on a one-year deal worth $912,000.
He went on injured reserve,
and the Raiders never actually explained what he was dealing with.
Last season, his stat line was one catch for three yards,
and he is not on the tight end depth chart.
The chart is Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer.
And then Ian Thomas.
So this does look like a depth move,
another body to add to the tight end room.
Bowers has 61 targets this season.
Mayer has 43.
Thomas has five.
So the fourth tight end does not necessarily have a clear role
or any defined role with
that room yet.
Although here's why the tight end room
actually does matter in this offense.
Bowers, Mayer and Thomas have been targeted 109 times combined.
And if you compare that to the three receivers that we've named,
Tucker, Naylor, and White,
and now White has been let go, together those three had 91 targets.
So this offense, to a degree,
has been running through its tight ends right now,
and that is the part that makes
the activation make a little bit more sense.
Brock Bowers alone has 547 yards and five touchdowns.
Michael Mayer has 351 yards.
If one of them goes down with an injury,
Um, the drop to the next man up is very steep,
but there is a part to this that fans still
are kind of confused by, right?
If you look at it in a vacuum,
they cut a receiver who scored three times and the production
has, you know, kind of dried up a little bit,
but then they activate a tight end who has
barely played.
So what happens to Cody White now?
There are a few outcomes at play here.
The first one, and I kind of mentioned it earlier in the video,
is that he clears, and a lot of people were wondering about this.
He clears and he ends up back on the practice squad.
That is what, you know, multiple people are hoping for.
That's what some people are speculating about.
The second option is that a team picks him up.
And remember, he actually played quite well.
He has pretty good production.
In fact, I thought I saw that he had
more touchdowns than George Pickens.
The third option is that he ends up sitting for a while,
and I'm not so sure that that
is even going to happen,
but we will see how this all plays out and what ends up happening
in the next couple of days.
So to recap what's happened today with the Raiders,
a receiver with 19 targets and three
touchdowns has been cut.
A tight end with one catch last year
is back in and activated off the IR.
The offense is scoring roughly 30 points a game.
The defense is allowing more than 36 points.
A game over the last four
and the move doesn't even touch that problem at all, but there
could be some more moves coming the rest of the way this week.
And Levi Dombro, who I brought up
on the channel multiple times already, he's really hoping
that the Raiders bring back White
on the practice squad and he's been good.
He was good to start this season,
so we'll see what happens, but I would bring him back
as well.
Hopefully he sticks around.
And if he does stick around on the practice squad, that proves
that this was just a roster move to bring somebody off of the IR.
It was just a little bit of math going on here.
So hopefully there's no ill will
and he'll find his way back into the lineup at some point.
And then there's Sunday,
a huge game against the 49ers where the Raiders are four and four.
And they're heading into San Fran where they are six and one.
So a couple of things to watch heading into Sunday.
Of course, Ashton Gentry, so many different storylines with this team.
But who lines up in the slot?
How much does Runyan play?
And whether this defense can actually stop the bleeding
and not allow more than 30 points.
And hopefully the offense keeps chugging along.
Kirk Cousins doing his thing.
And if he can continue to do that
and they utilize some guys who have been playing well.
And I'll have a video tomorrow on utilizing certain players
and Washington and Jenty,
because that's a hot topic as well.
If they can bring that to the table
and the defense can try their best to stop the bleeding.
They might actually have a chance,
but I want to hear what you have to say.
Let me know how you feel in the comments below.
Should they have cut Cody White?
You can understand with the production dipping as of late
or would you have kept him?
