We were all hoping, like, well,
maybe the dry spell would last, but not the case.
Yeah, wishful thinking, yeah, absolutely not.
But we actually need, we had 18 days in a row of solid snow rain.
So that was, what, a week and a half?
Almost two and a half weeks.
Jeez, O.P., that was a long time.
But yeah, now it's over.
We got a little bit of rain yesterday.
It was, like, I think about a tenth of an inch of rain or so yesterday.
Today we're adding more to that, and it looks like we're not done.
In fact, there was some big storm.
There were some thunderstorms over the city this morning.
I heard the rumbling.
Did you, by chance?
In Harlem, we heard the rumbling.
Woke it up at 11 a.m., 1.30 a.m.
Anybody else? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
A lot of waking up. Mother Nature, rude.
Giving us the storms in the middle of the night.
I was trying to sleep, got me up for an unexpected bathroom break.
Anyway, here's what we have for you right now.
Yes, showers and storms, they're out there.
They're mainly out on Long Island.
Do you expect it's Friday?
I know, but you know how quickly I get the giggles.
Go ahead, Mike.
I
Great.
So we do have some storms out there.
The good news is it's not severe weather at this point in time.
don't
We did have some flooding potential
and some flooding rains over parts of New Jersey early this morning.
Also for the east end of Long Island.
Looks like things have settled back down now.
So we're in good shape with that.
But the thing is, we still have some potential
know.
for more showers to come through for us here.
As basically an area where pressure
and cold front are pulling to the north and to the east.
So it's been a pretty wet,
soggy setup for us from late yesterday afternoon into today.
This goes on through the day today.
So if you're planning on getting out there, Antoine, I don't know.
I'd have the umbrella on standby.
It's not like it's going to rain all day
long like those slow-moving cold fronts.
You have that rain solid all the way through.
No showers and storms.
So the evening commute may be impacted.
And I think the airports
are also impacted quite heavily on days like this.
I know Inez was talking earlier about
that, and I think it's still going on.
We've got delays and cancellations and so on at the airports.
But, yeah, not a whole lot of help until we get to tomorrow.
Now, tomorrow we still have that area of pressure kind of hugging
the coastline here close enough that we still keep a few scattered
showers in the mix for you out on the east end of Long Island.
But the bulk of these heavier showers
and storms will be pushing up into New York.
The only thing is, you see down to our south and west,
yeah, we are looking at those showers starting
to pull in this general direction for us here.
Coming from around the nation's capital, Baltimore,
so see how we have different rounds of showers
and storms that will be coming through for us here.
So unfortunately, even though we get a break,
we do see more opportunities for rain to make that comeback.
Definitely stay weather alert on a day like today
because that frontal boundary, it's a slow mover.
The main low over the Great Lakes,
which is kind of driving it all, it's very slow to move.
So that's what gives us another day, day nap.
Look at some of these rain totals out there,
about an inch and two-thirds for you out in the East Hampton.
That's so far.
We're going to add more to that.
And also in Tom's River, it's about...
One and three quarters of an inch
of rain have come through there in the last 24 hours.
A quarter of an inch for you, Central Park.
It gets to be so much less once you get to the metro areas
and to the north and west.
But, yeah, those coastal locations,
that's where you're going to see the heavy rainfall coming through.
Oh, the temperature changes.
Now it's on the cooler side now from what it was yesterday.
This morning it was warmer.
It felt warm and humid.
Humid, humid, humid.
I was walking in.
Your hair.
Exactly.
Went crazy.
The wind blew it off, you know.
That was a lot of wind.
I'm going to win.
Yeah.
Yes, it is. It's one of those warm and humid-ish days,
but it's got that tropical feel for us here.
And it does look like this is going to be coming to a close.
So if you miss the more fall-like temperatures...
This is about the end of it because, yeah,
we've got that cooler weather trying to make a comeback here
as we head into tomorrow and Sunday,
and then we're talking temperatures back to normal.
Highs this time of the year are only
in the upper 50s, mid to upper 50s.
So if we get that cool weather back,
then you're going to know it's fall all over again.
We want to remind everybody to scan the QR code before you finish.
So if you have a question for Mike,
if there's a concern, scan the QR code
so that we can make sure we get it and get it to Mike.
This time, I guess we know where Mike is.
In the studio, sitting right next to the cruise guy in town.
Oh, please, that's Tyler.
Speaking of, let's take the wide shot so we can introduce the team.
I've been teasing with everybody.
We want to let everyone know who we have
that's making all of this work.
There's Tyler right there.
Tyler's over here.
Gabriella Ortiz.
Gabriella's over here.
Christopher Lissick is off to my right.
Over there.
Ms. Deborah Cheatham is over there making
sure all of us are on our best behavior.
She's like watching us real close
because she knows how you get out of control.
She is the school principal.
When it's you and I together.
She's keeping her eye on you.
He's the problem student.
I'm kind of proud of that.
It's Friday.
I should be bad.
Debra Chato, my managing editor,
making sure that there she is in the far, far corner right there.
But no.
So, all right.
Are you stepping out?
We normally do.
Where is Mike?
Right.
So I didn't have a chance today.
I was actually going to go home,
but I realized also my home's not ready for it.
It's a little bit of a mess.
So I'm like, maybe it's better I do it here.
Plus, we have some actual weather going on right now.
So let's do that.
So here's Mike.
But maybe they have some questions for me.
We've got weather going on, so if you have any questions,
scan the QR code and sound off.
Mike, you know what?
One thing I wanted to always have asked you,
when did you decide that you wanted to be a meteorologist?
I was one of those wacko kids.
As are many meteorologist types, I was eight years old.
I got crazy.
I had thunderstorms come through like we had last night,
woke me up in the middle of the night.
And I was so obsessed with the weather,
I want to know how and why that happened.
So I woke up the next day,
went to my parents and said, hey, can I do that?
I want to do this stuff for TV.
Right.
Because I think I like the way that they present it on TV.
I thought it was like, I'm like, that's a job?
That's a fun job.
And I think it gets made for me.
Here I am.
Many years later.
We always have to ask, you know,
all the rest of us bemoan, you know, when we hear about
Weather events, inclement weather and stuff like that.
You, Audrey, Nick, Lauren, you all just love when that happens.
I mean, if you bring, like, I actually wanted
a little more weather action this morning here in the city.
It was more on the east end of Long Island and South Jersey.
I always like it when it's here, of course.
We don't want the damage, but a nice
scrub down from Mother Nature is good.
And something to make you a little more interested in the weather.
Something interesting.
Something different.
Because that 18 days of dry weather for us here
in the Tri-State kind of killed me.
Kills my spirit a little bit.
I need some action.
So even with the transition, if you will,
you say, those of us who were missing the fall.
Right.
Yeah, we're done now.
We're not ready to run right into the heavy layers, though.
Not too heavy.
It goes back to normal.
Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s.
Look at that right now.
Look at the harbor.
It doesn't look peaceful.
It's full, but.
But I was going to say, don't get fooled
because there's still more potential for showers
to come back at us later this afternoon into the evening.
So don't go out there and leave all your wet weather gear home.
And then it clears out.
And then it clears out sort of kind of tonight.
So tomorrow it's a few showers left over for you.
But it's generally trying to wind down.
The thing is, there's an upper level low that hangs out close by.
And that keeps a small rain threat in the picture for us.
It's mostly in our northern tier counties
and also out toward New England.
But still, there is that small chance
that we'll see a few more showers.
So anyone heading out tonight, keep the umbrella handy.
Yep.
If you're flying, whether it's LaGuardia,
JFK, Checkahead, Newark International,
make sure you check with your airline
so that you will find out if your flight is a no or go, correct?
That sounds spot on, my friend.
I hope you got a good look at the fall color
because likely after today, a lot of it's coming down.
Coming down.
All right.
And we do have a question.
Mike, love your Hermes belt.
Uh-oh.
Very nice.
Can you see it?
Actually, I had a jacket on over there.
Okay, I see it.
This is one I got a lot of.
I have a little built collection, but I guess it's standing out.
We're not mad at it.
I'm just raising my eyes back up.
So, all right.
And we'll go to break Tyler Dominick if you're okay with that.
All right.
We'll see Mike in a little bit.
And thank you for the question and the compliment on the belt.
Always.
All right.
We'll be right back.
