A soaking rain will impact Massachusetts on Friday, with periods of heavy rain, embedded thunderstorms, and the potential for localized flooding lasting into the evening.
But our three-week dry spell is broken.
Keep in mind, during the day today, especially this afternoon,
southeastern Mass is the one that's most at risk for flooding,
though all of us will get rain heavy at times.
It's also going to be dry for long periods over the weekend.
Neither day is a washout, though both days have some shower chances.
Right now, the focus of our rain is out around,
let's say, the Cape Cod Canal,
extending down to Woods Hole in the south.
We've got a batch of some light showers in the northern Worcester Hills
and western Massachusetts, but in between we've got some gaps
in the clouds as you just saw in the Boston area. Now,
between 10 and noon, this area of heavy rain is going to move back in.
Once it's here, it's here to stay in the afternoon. You guys are going
to see a long period of rain with embedded downpours, although
the focus of that heaviest rain appears to be southeastern mass.
Anybody could get a downpour this afternoon and overnight tonight.
We're going to keep the potential for downpours around,
though they won't be as extensive as the afternoon.
Tomorrow morning, we've got a wake-up shower and then improvement.
Heaviest rain, like I said down here,
this is 2 to 4 locally, up to 6 inches of rain.
And especially the areas that exceed 4 inches of rainfall,
that's where we have the best chance for some issues.
So you can see Plymouth to Rockland down to Dartmouth.
Foxborough and Providence probably going
to be some of the worst places later on today.
From Boston to Worcester up to Portsmouth,
it's one to two inches of rain in the forecast.
Over the weekend, we've got some showers around and temperatures drop.
Upper 50s, lower 60s expected as some cooler air moves in.
This is the rain chances that I want on your radar
because I mentioned we do have some rain around over the weekend.
Tomorrow, it's a morning chance and then a late chance.
But look at the in-between.
I bet you a lot of the afternoon is cloudy and dry,
maybe a spot sprinkle out there and
that's all.
But we got one final push of wet weather here
with this area of low pressure, this disturbance
that comes through Saturday night into Sunday morning.
First thing Sunday, we've got a little shower out there
and then we end up clearing out
you guys.
So for anybody that's headed to Gillette,
I've got temperatures in the 50s dropping
into the 40s.
It's going to be dry.
And cooling during the game.
Seven-day forecast for the weekend always in view.
Keeps us a little bit cool with those highs
in the 50s next week and on and off clouds.
