Guys, I hope you can hear me okay. It's a mess out here.
Let me try to flip the camera around.
Here we go. So Route 35, you're looking at Route 35 northbound
right past the Luigi's and the country market here.
So you can see the cones down that way blocking off all the traffic.
And this goes on all the way north where it is open.
at this block but this is an area which usually does flood on route 35.
uh i drive a low profile vehicle
and i tried to get some videos and
i ended up getting trapped myself i had
to find a higher elevated parking lot
across the street at the cvs to get you these shots here but
this is what it looks like you can see actually we have a tow happening
uh at this moment a dump truck has gotten stuck let me walk over here
So you folks can see a dump truck tried to make the turnaround.
This is the U-turn going
from Route 35 northbound to Route 35 southbound.
And it is completely flooded.
It is deep over here.
And in the background, right past that stop sign,
you can see vehicles trying to work their way northbound
or southbound on Route 35.
That's going towards the circle, the 88 circle,
the OB Diner towards the Walgreens.
That's also flooded.
And again, this is a typical low-lying spot along 35,
but radar estimates show between 4 and 5 inches of rain.
And I can tell you, folks,
I was woken up from a sound sleep like thousands of us
were at around 5.30 this morning from a relentless thunderstorm.
The lightning was just incredible.
House-shaking thunder, as Mike Rizzo did a great job describing it.
But as Mike was saying, flash flood!
They come in a flash, and they leave in a flash, and you give
this maybe two hours if we were to do a live shot here at 12 o'clock.
You would never know,
this happened right in the middle of the busy rush hour.
I can also tell you these scenes are now being repeated over
and over again at the Jersey Shore.
You got to think of the low-lying spots,
Route 35 by K Street and Belmar.
You have to think about Route 71 and Allenhurst and Deal,
that's probably underwater.
We know we just had a bad flood up there by BJ's in Ocean Township.
Not too many months ago. There's the dump truck getting towed out.
You can see how deep that water is. Yeah, my little Honda Civic would
be no match for this flooding here in Point Pleasant Beach, guys.
So the rain is tapered off to a drizzle. It's starting to brighten up.
In fact, you can see a little bit of blue sky overhead,
which is certainly great news.
But for now, here in Point Pleasant Beach,
if you have to go to work, folks, you can't get through here.
Tell your bosses, hey, we had a nasty storm,
and if you're just waking up now, you slept through it,
God bless you, because it was loud, it was long,
and the rain was incredibly heavy for a very long time.
And we can see this dump truck now trying to get itself situated out
of that ramp and now back onto 35 North, guys.
