Smithtown kicks off Thanksgiving food drive to help families in need

We are at the Smithtown Township Emergency Food Pantry this morning, and I'm with the Smithtown Youth Advisory Board, Cara, you said, and Hannah, and you guys are going to be busy tomorrow. Yeah, so we're going to volunteer tomorrow and November 14th to give back to our community. We spend time collecting donations and packaging boxes to families who are struggling with food insecurity. And can you just rattle off a little bit of what's going to be in the box? We have cranberry sauce in the box, gravy, stovetop, potatoes, vegetables, and fruits. And then sometimes we add a little dessert like cookies, cake mix, or pies, or muffins. I love it. So it's literally the whole meal on the table. Yes, exactly. Exactly. I'm sure it makes you feel good to be able to be part of this, right? And why is it so important, would you say? As teens in the community, we see firsthand the people who can struggle with food insecurity. So it gives us something tangible to give back, especially as people from the community. And how can people help out? People can help out by donating a bunch of cans of food, vegetables, boxes. Mixes of... Um, boxes for the meals, and then we're going to package them and donate them. I love it. So you guys are doing a little bit of everything, which is so great. We also have everything that you could donate on our website too at news12.com. Back to you guys in the studio.
