A woman who lives here on Laurel Court in the West End of Bridgeport
says what happened inside her front yard
when the gate was closed and locked on October 22nd
was, quote, a living nightmare.
She says her 40-pound, 6-year-old dog Nipsey was attacked
and killed by what appeared to be a pit bull
being walked by a man who was apparently
passing through the neighborhood
when the animal somehow got off its leash.
Security video captures the sound of the attack, disturbing to hear.
Lily, who asked that we not show her face,
says it was horrifying to see.
Losing it in such a dramatic way where you have
to see your dog suffering,
it's the worst feeling ever.
She says she rushed Nipsey to the emergency veterinary hospital,
but it was too late for the animal to be saved.
You could see all his tendons, his bones. It was horrific.
She says she filed a police report.
The attack took place right up here in the front yard.
But authorities said they cannot investigate.
Unless she can identify the man who appeared to be the dog's owner.
She's speaking out in hopes someone will come forward.
She says the dog was white with black spots,
but she simply couldn't get a good enough look
at the man to identify him.
If the person would at least come up to me and said,
you know, I'm sorry, can I help you?
Is your doggy okay?
But just to take your dog and run down the street, that's not okay.
And she's asking anyone who can help her identify the man
or the dog to contact her directly
so she can get that information to police.
