A family of four are recovering tonight after a fire broke out
in their townhome in the Greater Heights area earlier
this morning along Beasley Hills Lane.
Now, authorities say that two children jumped from a third-story window
to escape the fire and a neighbor caught them.
Fox 26's Jillian Hartman is joining me live in the studio.
Jillian, this is all so hard to believe.
Yeah, it's terrifying. So this actually
happened around 1.30 in the morning.
Neighbors in the community right now are really rallying around
the family and supporting them as they recover after this fire.
One neighbor tells me it's a miracle
that the family made it out alive because the fire
spread so quickly.
Here's what she told me.
Last night I woke up to screaming and crackling and popping noises,
so I looked outside the window and there was a car in reverse on fire
and I saw that the house was on fire as well.
Immediately when I saw the car backing up, I called 911.
They let me know I was the sixth caller
and that emergency crews were on the way.
And essentially even before that, the community kind
of just everyone ran out of their homes and did everything they could
to help the mom, the dad and the two kids that were in the house.
There was...
So much screaming in a 20 minute span, whether that was fire,
fire, fire, you have to jump, jump now, jump now.
Neighbors were running all over the street. They were trying
to catch the mom and children who were jumping from the balcony.
They were also trying to put out the fire that was covered.
On the dad, so it was it was chaos this morning.
I saw about seven fire trucks.
About three of them had the extended mechanical arms.
They were shooting water from the ground,
from the air, really from everywhere.
Right after I heard all of the chaos unfold in the morning,
everything happened really fast.
It went from zero to 100 and the flames almost engulfed the house
in what felt like two minutes.
It's really a miracle that everyone did get out alive.
We're happy to hear that everyone is okay right now. Of course,
Suffering injuries and really fighting for their lives,
but they made it out alive in that moment.
Now we learned the mother was injured after jumping
from the third story window.
Officials believe the fire started
in the garage after a car caught fire.
The father moved the car out of the garage,
but by then the fire had already spread into the home.
Authorities say the father suffered severe burns
while trying to help get his family out.
The fire was contained to the one town home
and right now the cause remains under investigation.
