Man dies after crashing into historic building, popular bar

This hour it's coming out of Athens where police are on the scene of a car that has crashed into a building. Thank you so much for joining us for Fox 5 News at noon. I'm Alex Whitler. Athens-Clarke County confirmed that a 46-year-old man died after his car crashed into that building in downtown Athens. Fox 5's Ray Yerena is live at the scene with what we know so far. Ray, good afternoon. Good afternoon, Alex. As you just mentioned, we just talked to the police chief off camera and he confirmed that that 46 year old man who he identified as Kevin Cisner has died after this crash into this building here. And just take a look at the extent of the damage. We just talked to the property owner here and he says this building was built in 1882. You can see the number of bricks that have fallen. From this window here on East Broad Street in Athens, an Athens-Clarke County police say that officers were called for a mental health call at about 7.30 this morning, two blocks over on Washington and Jackson Streets. Police say the man was in a vehicle and fled, but officers did not pursue. The chief says the vehicle then crashed into this building along East Broad Street, which houses the Magnolia Bar and Republic Salon. Police say the man has died as a result, and police have just identified him as 46-year-old We talked to a Georgia student who came down to look at the damage left behind. I saw the truck in the building and now they've been able to remove the truck but I didn't see anyone get out of it or anything. I just saw the aftermath when the rubble was all over the truck. I feel terrible about Magnolias and I'm sorry this has happened but I hope they can recover. And back out live, you can see that crews are right now assessing the damage to the building. We're expecting to hear more information from police in the next few hours. And once we do get that information, we'll be sure to send that along to you. For now, we're live in Athens, Wade, and on Fox 5 News.
