College Football Playoff Rankings Spark Major Debate

We did tell you also that we were expecting craziness
when it comes to the college football
playoff committee.
They have, in fact, released their first top 12
and top 25 in the country here, and here
you go.
Greg, you and I agreed,
Miami and Georgia at the top, but I did not know.
Was what they were going
to do with the two undefeated teams under Miami.
That's Utah at 8-0, and that's UCLA at 8-0.
Utah, the committee apparently likes a lot.
They got them as the third best team in the country.
They have Indiana as the fourth.
You and I can have a lot of conversations
that Indiana is nowhere even remotely close
to being the fourth-best team in the country with one loss.
They do have a bye week this week,
which I find interesting that that's where they placed them.
Alabama, Kentucky, 7-1.
They have got the best strength of schedule
of anybody that we have seen so far in this top 10.
They got one loss.
Will Stein, head coach.
Phenomenal job. Former Oregon offensive coordinator.
Do you see a difference in the Oregon offense versus what's going
on here in Kentucky? It's not a shock here, guys.
Coaching matters in college football.
Uh, but...
Again, now you know, the three undefeateds,
number one, number three, and UCLA came in
at what, number eight, with a backup quarterback,
so it appears the committee, not all that
impressed with the Big Ten undefeated team,
the only undefeated team in the Big Ten, and
that being UCLA.
Sure, so Chris, let's throw up that graphic again,
if you don't mind, because I'd like
to go through it real quick for our viewers.
So I am totally okay with one through six here.
No issue.
Miami, Georgia, Utah, Indiana, Alabama, Kentucky.
Joe, you make a good point on Indiana,
but we know that this is the way that it works.
They get a scholarship based on winning last year.
True or untrue?
That's kind of the way it works.
You win a championship,
you get that cachet going into the next year.
Where it starts to get...
A little frisky for me is seven at Texas,
who I don't believe will be one of the top 12 teams
in the country when all is said and done.
UCLA, I think, should be ahead of them. I think BYU
should be ahead of UCLA and Texas, by the way.
One tough loss for BYU on the road, and that's it.
Mississippi's a very good team.
What also strikes me here, Joe, is that Notre Dame, of course,
This is still on the inside looking out.
But if Miami beats Notre Dame,
you're going to see somebody else replace them at 12.
But based on Notre Dame playing nobody the rest of the year,
they just have to win out
and then they'll finish in the top 12.
They're going to get into the college football playoff base
with no resume and no big wins,
maybe whatsoever.
So outside looking in, Tennessee still has a shot.
LSU plays Alabama this week, so they certainly have a shot.
I give no credence to Ohio State at this point.
Texas Tech's having somewhat of a down year.
By the way, I watched Texas Tech play this past week.
Not impressed.
I don't know what it's got.
By the way, Texas Tech and TCU, I should mention,
neither team to me, looking like they're true contenders.
So I think anybody in that top 10
certainly could win the championship.
Chip.
This week's Notre Dame-Miami game is the game of the...
This Saturday is just...
The biggest week of the college football season.
It's not even close.
We had that incredible week a few weeks ago where it was upside down.
But I think this week we'll decide it all.
I just have a major problem with
putting Texas as high as they are, Joe.
For me, it's a team that I've happened to see play several times.
Their biggest win of the season was a game they shouldn't have won
against Ohio State.
They got not lucky, but they won the game.
Give them credit.
They came back and won that.
And what is Ohio State at this point?
I don't mind them being in the...
If they win the rest of their games,
I don't mind them being in the playoff.
But Joe, Texas' losses have been so poor this season.
So that is surprising for me to see them so high.
Based on what? I'm not sure.
It is not even remotely close to what they are.
Indiana being the fourth-ranked team in the country
is a joke on so many levels here, Craig.
Keep in mind, they lost 19-15 Ohio State
back on October 17th.
And in fact, their victories, their past three wins,
by seven points or less against
teams like Michigan and Minnesota over
the last couple of weeks, they did not play a
power four conference opponent outside of their conference.
North Texas, Howard, Western Kentucky,
they haven't beaten anybody that is ranked on this
list by the committee.
Not one win, and they're the fourth best team in the country?
I don't think so.
