Good evening to you. For a Senate election eve,
and the stakes could not be any higher.
That's right. While the national spotlight
is on the battle for the Senate and the House,
here in the district, voters have their own concerns.
And Fox 5's Regina Ureta joins us
live from near the Capitol.
She spoke directly to residents about the issues that are driving
their decisions. Regina?
Yeah, well, all eyes are on Congress as control for the Senate
and U.S. House of Representatives
is up for grabs. Now, across the country,
there are key races in battleground states that could
shake up the balance of power.
Here in D.C., there are critical races at stake. But this
midterm election is really about the issues that voters want.
The price of rent is just, like, so high.
Affordable housing is a big one.
The military activating National Guard.
The cost of living, it's compared to when it
was maybe 10 years ago to what it is now.
It's skyrocketing. It's too much.
Now tonight, Fox 5 spoke with several D.C. residents
about what's driving their decisions at the ballot box.
Two issues kept coming up,
the economy and the presence of the National Guard.
Others say they're backing Republicans
and want to see the party maintain control of Congress.
And some voters say the race for the next D.C. mayor is also critical,
especially when it comes to how
the district will respond to the Trump administration.
Seems like former mayor now, Bowser,
kind of abiding to the rules and the game of Trump,
was really looking for someone
who would stand up to that and really put D.C. voters first.
I don't care if they're red or blue.
I just want them to not be an idiot and not be super rude.
Now, early voting has wrapped up in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
According to the latest data, it shows more people casting
ballots ahead of election day compared to the 2022 midterms.
In Washington, D.C., more than 103,000 early ballots have
been casted or returned.
In Maryland, early voting
and returned mail ballots are close to one million.
And in Virginia, the numbers are also up with early voting already
outpacing the 2022 midterm early vote by nearly 29 percent.
Now, the question is if that same momentum.
We'll carry over on Election Day.
We know polling places will be open starting
at 7 a.m. in D.C. and Maryland.
In Virginia, they'll open at 6 a.m.
And, of course, we'll have complete election night coverage starting
at 7 p.m. on Fox Local and Fox 5.
Ladies.
Regina, thank you.
President Trump making his final pitch to voters
at the reflecting pool ahead of tomorrow's midterms.
The White House pointing to renovations in D.C.
In an effort to show Trump is able to get the job done,
but tied to those projects were
botched work, setbacks, and claims of vandalism.
The president also reflected
on Republicans' razor-thin majority in Congress and their
fight to hold onto it.
We fought for 250 years to make it great,
we're not gonna let it be torn down by a bunch
of people that have failed everywhere they've been,
because the ideologies that you're talking
Talking about various ideologies,
they've always failed every single time.
So we'll defend our country, our culture,
and our heritage for generations to come.
Trump made no mention about the concerns over a tough economy
and soaring gas prices.
Tonight, AAA reporting that the national average is $4.17.
Instead, promising $5,000 checks
if the GOP keeps its congressional majority.
Robert White speaking out after officially
resigning from the D.C. Council.
The at-large council member officially stepped down today
to be eligible to serve as the district's next delegate.
A 1970 law says the delegate cannot hold
another paid public office on Election Day.
I want to make sure that there is nothing that stands between
or even appears to stand between this day and the next mission.
This is a time where we can make great progress,
but only if we make a couple sacrifices here and there.
White served on the council for 10 years. If elected,
he'll take over for longtime D.C. delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton.
And remember, we'll, of course,
have election coverage for you all day long tomorrow on Fox 5,
Fox 5 Plus, Fox Local, Washington, D.C. Our special coverage starting
at 7 p.m. And it goes until 2 a.m. It'll be a busy night.
Oh, yeah. A long one at that. Don't worry, we'll have you covered.
Okay, folks, looks like after a cloudy Monday,
the skies have cleared out.
And it's opened up a pretty beautiful starry night.
Yeah, clock set back.
We had that early sunset, but it's pretty mild out there.
Mike Thomas is here now with a look ahead of that forecast.
Yeah, not a bad day today with temps in the 60s.
We're going to right where we should be.
Now, clouds maybe put a little bit of a gloom over your Monday.
Sunshine's back for tomorrow.
And with that sunshine,
some spots could be as much as 10 degrees warmer compared to today.
We're getting those 70s back,
even though we've gotten now into early November,
where the average temperature has dropped to 63.
In fact, by Wednesday, it drops down to 62,
and we're going to stay well above that number.
For much of this week,
it's an extremely warm fall continues here in the D.C. region.
That is Frederick, Maryland, looking good tonight.
And as Angie mentioned, the stars are out.
Temperatures will be chilly tomorrow morning.
In fact, already dropping through the 50s here.
D.C. 54, Dulles 53, Baltimore already down to 51 degrees.
So you'll certainly feel that chill out there even right now.
And just wait until tomorrow morning
when we'll have a lot of 40s on the map to start the day.
Now, clouds from this afternoon have
generally started to filter off to the east.
Not much happening, at least not locally on satellite radar.
Showers oh so close across parts of Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
But you can see they're lifting from south to north.
So they'll avoid us here in Washington.
Strong storm system out in the middle portion of the country.
In fact, you see multiple tornado watch boxes.
Thankfully, as of this moment,
we haven't had a lot of confirmed tornadoes on the ground tonight.
But it's certainly a threat as we continue to head
into the late evening hours there in the southern plains.
But again, here in D.C., 16 straight days now without a drop of rain.
rain at Washington. We think later this week
that'll come to an end. We'll talk more about
that coming up, but your bus stop forecast first.
46 suns up now at 6:37 in the morning,
after school temperature.
75, that's warm, but hey, the warmth won't stop the sun from setting
earlier. 5:05 p.m., something goes down tomorrow afternoon.
We'll talk more about the rest of the
week coming up in just a few. Ladies.
All right, Mike, thank you.
Tonight, a homicide investigation underway in Montgomery County.
A man was stabbed to death in Wheaton near several local businesses.
Our Shamari Stone live tonight with what we know so far.
Hey, show.
Hey Angie, right now the suspect is still on the loose.
Police continue to investigate
and around the corner from where I'm standing
is where friends of the man who was stabbed to death
had a vigil. Standing in sadness at the scene where the man in his 40s
was stabbed to death out here on the 11th.
...thousand block of Elkin Street in Whedon.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday,
some people tell me the man and the suspect knew each other,
were hanging out at a nearby bar and got in an argument.
That dispute continuing outside to the street,
and that's when they say the suspect stabs
their friend and leaves the scene.
Tonight, police have not released a description of the suspect
or the name of the man who was...
Killed? Business owners
and bartenders telling us there has been a lot of crime in this area,
which is near the mall and the Wheaton Metro stop.
This guy says he knows the man who was killed.
It's shocking because I knew the person.
I knew him. He's a good friend of mine.
He also worked on my car at the auto
repair shop where I did my work done.
So I've known him for a few years.
He's one of the nicest people you could ever meet, you know,
he's down to earth, never caused problems for anybody,
which is a good thing around here because there's quite a few people
that do cause trouble, you know, but he wasn't one of those people.
Now, tonight, Montgomery County Police tell us
that they will release the name of the man who was killed tomorrow.
We have the name, but we're not releasing it because police
say they need a little more time to notify his relatives.
Meanwhile, if you have any information about this fatal stabbing call,
Montgomery County Police in Wheaton.
I'm Shamari Stone. Back to you, Jim and Angie.
Well, today was day 15 of the murder trial against Naresh Bhat,
the Manassas Park man
accused of killing his wife, Mamta Khafle,
and then dismembering her body.
Mamta's brother took the stand in Prince William County,
testifying about concerns
for his sister's safety in her marriage.
A forensic expert also took the stand,
breaking down an analysis of blood
that was found inside the family's home.
Again, after you received this photograph from Mamta,
did Mamta say this to you?
I am not safe.
After Mr. Bhamda sent you this photo,
you said that you are not safe here and that you are not safe.
Yes, that is.
There was.
The blood that's in this part of the carpet has
to have come in the context of the scene,
has to come from above.
It correlates with what was...
The pattern that was seen with the blue star on the top surface.
So no visible blood on the carpet,
but enhancement with looking at it with luminol.
You can see this pattern that's directly above where you see
the stain that's now on the underside of the carpet.

His wife's body has never been found.

coming out of several manholes in the 1800 block
of H Street Northwest this morning.
Pepco says that they had to address power surges and some outages.
While the power is back on, the cause
of what happened is still under investigation.
We'll be right back.
