And this is what happens when we bring the treats out.
Charles, Charles.
He's like, did you call me?
I'm pretty sure you called me.
Yeah, a banana, oh boy.
Mark and Tara here, welcome to the 10 Acre Woods
and happy Halloween weekend.
So by the time this video comes out tomorrow,
of course Halloween will be over,
but it is currently Saturday morning.
It is minus three degrees celsius
so good thing we switched over the water last weekend
because well we'll probably have some frozen pipes
and such if we didn't.
I didn't.
But it's going to be, it's still a mild winter.
Oh yeah, normally we're covered in snow.
Yeah it's not quite winter yet but yeah normally
Halloween there's generally some snow
kicking around or we've had a snow.
So it is, uh, they all sat on the roof tonight.
Oh, yeah, there's our pigeons. They love, uh,
they love that, uh, electrical, uh, hydro line.
Uh, one thing we're going to be doing today is
we've already set it up and done a test run.
So of course this is our barbecue area.
And we cover it up for the winter,
just keep snow out if we want a barbecue or, you know,
if we want some other space to do or store anything.
But what I have is an old projector.
Well, it's not really that old.
I bought it and I never use it.
It was just one of those cheap hundred dollar projectors.
And we put it in there and projected these cat eyes,
these green cat eyes on here.
So we'll have to show you that.
It looks so good.
Yeah, I have to show you that at the end of the video.
Good morning! So here's their water,
they've drinking about half of it and we were thinking
about maybe getting a bigger one of these or getting
the idea of hooking this up to actually
run water automatically through the winter.
Here's the hose that's currently off but what we'd have
to do is we'd have to put a heated line in the ground
and hook it up and of course
Heat the pipe from inside the building and come out.
It's just a big to-do.
And we thought, well, you know, this isn't so bad.
You grab a bucket, you pour it in.
That's pretty good.
Right?
And we'll monitor it.
And then she takes another one and does the ducks and geese inside.
They're not in yet, but the chickens are.
Well, and the pond is out there.
So currently the pond is good.
It is, well, it's, you saw some frost or some.
Yeah, well, there's ice on the edge,
which is weird because it hasn't been that cold.
But I guess, well, Earth is.
Three degrees below zero, I guess it's cold enough, isn't it?
So what we're expecting this weekend,
starting Sunday and going from into Monday and Tuesday,
we're going to get a bunch of rain.
It's going to be above freezing, so of course,
if the temperatures were any colder, it would
be quite a bit of snow, and what we're going to do is,
probably tomorrow morning, I guess
what we'll have is the, Levi goes in,
we'll have these little ones, we'll just lock them
in, we'll get their own water in there.
Because of all the rain, we really don't want them to get wet.
We will trust that, Levi, you stay out of the rain.
Hopefully they've got enough shelters to be able
to to get out of the rain. But our little minis
are a little more uh take a little bit more.
I don't trust he'll stay out of the rain.
He's hardy enough he can handle it. Yeah it's just these little ones.
Yeah. Need a little of the extra care.
And their bones are older they get chilled. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Tara's like, this is a couch day, a couch weekend,
because of the coldness and the rain forecast.
It's time for it to hibernate, right?
Yes, it's time for it to hibernate.
We'll probably have to get some more hay in here as well.
Yeah, I was going to fill that today, we'll see.
Oh yeah, yep,
there she be.
We got some ice forming around the outer edge.
Then of course this pond, the upper pond,
we shut off the pump and disconnected all that last weekend.
And there it is, that one's got
a thin sheet of ice right across the top.
That won't last much, it's going to be 14,
I think 14 degrees today.
Good morning,
good morning.
Mama's getting food.
Yeah,
Petey and Piper's pig nest.
They've started the mound.
So this water
in here,
because the pond
is open outside,
this isn't the, of course, the priority water trough.
So, it's actually...
Still quite high but once that pond completely freezes over
and everything's inaccessible
then they'll start really drinking from that.
What did they do? Oh, oh no those are those goats.
Yeah.
I guess we'll have to maybe put a piece of plywood
or something on it. Yeah that goats
play
with new things
with their horns.
Yeah the boys.
There's Jazz there
getting big.
Jazz and his brother Joey on the other side of him.
Hi, how you doing?
Was it you that wrecked that?
Two boys.
The ying and the yang.
The white and the black and the black and the white.
Right?
Yes.
Yeah.
Silly boys.
What is it,
Charlie?
It's never ending with you, is it?
Patience.
Yes, we need patience.
Patience.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Are you starving?
All right.
He's like, look, I'm sitting down.
Please give me something.
I'm
Oh, you're a silly boy.
starting
You're a silly boy.
Mama's getting something.
There's a newbie in here, so don't shock it.
Oh, I thought you said a newbie-an.
As in a Nubian goat.
That's a good note.
Yeah.
A Nubian is in here.
to
Now, this came in yesterday.
speak.
A guinea.
And Barry's in here.
Right.
Yes, Tara did mention that yesterday
she shifted a few around.
So Poppy and Barry,
we did lose Moo a couple weeks ago.
So yeah, Moo was the girl and Poppy's the boy.
And yeah, Tiana went out to feed one night
and Moo was just kind of lying there.
Looked like relaxing, but yeah, she had passed.
So no injuries of any kind.
So it could have been just old age.
We don't know because we do have an issue with some crows.
Oh sorry I didn't mean to scare you.
Wow they're all they're always guinea
fowl are always high strung.
Uh...
All right what's on the menu this morning? Lots of good stuff. Grapes,
cantaloupe, carrots, zucchini, kiwi, bananas,
oranges, a little bit of everything. Nice.
So here's our thermostat it's hooked up to that fan in the back
so 5.9 degrees
Celsius. I believe it's set to 3 degrees
so if that drops below 3 degrees the fan
at the back stops exhausting air
out bringing cold fresh air in.
And maintains a temperature of three degrees all winter long, even
though it's minus 30 to minus 40 outside, which is which is excellent.
We didn't plan for that. We thought we would actually need heaters,
but running heaters of any kind, they're just a fire hazard.
So after the fact, I had actually thought, you know,
it would have been a good idea to run at least a couple heating lines
in here so that you can heat the slab, the floor of the barn,
and have radiant heat, which would be the safest way to heat the barn.
But we don't even need that.
Get a couple animals in here, even the chickens.
Yeah.
Maybe a pig or two, a couple rabbits.
What's that?
A gift from the reptile peeps.
Oh, yes, the quail went over to...
Yeah, reptiles, so all the eggs and everything will feed the snakes.
Yeah, because it's...
So they'll feed the pair.
Yeah, because it's two females.
The eggs are, of course, infertile,
so they have a bunch of reptiles, and they go around
and they do little petting farm reptile events,
and we thought this was a perfect opportunity
with all these quail eggs we were getting.
It's a great sized egg to feed the reptiles, so they'll keep them.
There's a bunch of food in there for Barry
and Poppy behind you in the feed bin.
You can give that to them.
Okay.
Like, as is, just throw the banana in.
You don't want me to peel it?
Nope.
All right.
Hi, Barry.
Look what I got for you.
What do you think?
Oh, rabbits are so fun to watch eating.
It's just they grab a leaf and then it disappears.
And we'll throw that over there.
An apple in.
Of course, a carrot.
Banana.
Oh, you got a rounded meal.
Yeah, it looks like we may have to put some water in there.
And they're good.
Okay, fed.
So what's in the box?
Mealworms.
Oh, okay.
So I guess they had too many mealworms.
Yeah, they had too many mealworms.
So, well, at this time of year, too,
a lot of the people who raise mealworms for their own chickens,
they call their chickens at this time of year.
And then they got mealworm farms.
So instead of overwintering the mealworm farms, they give them back,
and then they get over an abundance of mealworms.
Okay, so it's in.
He actually asked if I wanted to freeze-dry mealworms.
Freeze-dry them?
Freeze-dry them.
That's interesting.
Because then they'll last forever, right?
And then you can sell them.
Yeah, you don't want to mix up
your freeze-dried mealworms with your other...
Yeah, I'm kind of thinking about it, right?
He says, ooh, these are really good.
What are they?
Oh, that's the wrong bag.
Those
are
mealworms.
You almost need to give Charlie his, like,
at least something just to keep him.
Keep him at bay. Grab a head
of lettuce or something for him.
Ah, save it for later.
Tucker can eat it off his back. Oh, he's so quiet now.
Apparently he's got what he needs,
what he wants. A little sprouts
in that corner right here on the wall.
Over. Yeah, that's the
peas. Yeah, lots of sprouts.
Yeah, some greens, some micro greens.
You know, it's just a matter
It doesn't matter if I put in a little extra.
Yeah, we did that in the house a couple years,
but we weren't eating our microgreens fast enough when we were growing.
It'd be nice to have a machinery,
but I don't know, you just kind of work it.
Well, to make the carpets, yeah, the bigger,
kind of more industrial, commercial kind of.
This one was supposed to be put in there last night, or outside.
Okay.
It has to be introduced at night.
Ah, so maybe tonight we'll...
I mean, it does look like it wants to go in there real bad.
Well, it just wants to get away.
I think guinea are that way.
They'll run back and forth in the same four-foot section.
There we go. Oh, look at... Uh-oh, uh-oh.
Figure it out, kids. Figure it out.
I think it's a girl, so...
Okay, that's not...
Just walk around and pretend you're a chicken.
Hey.
You'll blend in somewhat.
Okay.
Done. Waters, food, water, his, and Linda's.
You gave the littles hay.
Well, it's a new routine, right?
What's your new routine? Tell us your new routine.
Well, because it's winter, right?
So the animals are in different spots.
So I have to go through my brain.
Yeah, you're not walking out.
You're putting the hay inside the shelter here.
You're not putting it out.
Well, and yeah, don't forget Barry.
He's stuck in the back, right?
So you've got to remember where they all are and everything.
Okay, is everybody happy? Happy animals.
Oh Bronwyn, what happened? Mummy hit you with a bale of hay?
Hey.
No, it was probably one of the others that pulled out some.
Oh
Yep, there it is. She's a ground.
She's a ground-eater and Noelle and Holly are doing really well.
Yeah. Hi, Noelle.
You're a good boy.
Hey, and Turbo has approved. Yeah.
They do prefer the backpack strap. They do prefer the...
Over the the fresh veggies and...
Well, you know, everybody's got their preference.
Make sure you don't need...
Oh, it's there.
Bronwyn's like, is it food?
It's actually a... it's a horse, I think.
GTX Pro.
I guess that was in the hay.
Oh yeah, this hay does come from along the side of the road.
road.
.
So you get little surprises, a little bit of garbage.
.
.
.
So around here our municipality has
more horses than any other municipality in the province.
So this is horse country in Manitoba
and a lot of people ride their horses along the edge
or through the ditch.
So it's possible that you'll get some little surprises.
Charlie! Right? Charlie,
You have cucumber and grapes here.
Did you get it?
He's sitting down.
He's gone
Just like more, but he's got it.
You can see it rolling around
in the mouth Charlie. Oh, yeah
There's a couple little bits there that he's use your nose
Charles Charles, he's like did you call me?
Yeah, a
Banana. Oh boy. Oh, duh.
Are you ready for Halloween buddy?
Yeah, you don't care
Affection yeah, we're gonna have to watch him. He's a runner
He wants to go out. It's wintertime.
It's getting cold. You don't want to go out
I think he has escaped every Halloween.
Has he yeah, so we've got our oh
These are cute. Yeah,
we never really did anything with these. These are like
Tea lights like those little candle lights, a ghost dog
I think there's a ghost cat, one of our
was one of the finds from that crazy bins
Yeah, there's one cat, but yeah, and then we've got bags of
Because of, uh...
Bags of goodies for the kids. So we've got a nice and the parents.
Oh, all right and the parents where is
There is a...
Right the parents get so when the parents come about
this here we have freeze-dried cherries
Even if you come without kids.
Yep, treat for everybody.
There's a bunch of little black cats.
Yeah.
Just a bunch of little things.
Crayons that are shaped like dinosaurs.
And these are cherries as well?
No, more toys.
More toys.
Just little bonus extras.
Well, you never know.
We'll find out how we do tonight.
We always like to give out something different, right?
What did we give out last year?
Flea and tick collars.
Yeah, we had a whole bunch of flea and tick collars.
And cat toys.
Cat toys.
Yeah.
Eh, something different.
Yeah, so that is, that's tonight.
And yeah, speaking of tonight, here's the little,
I bought this probably about a year ago.
It's just one of these cheap little projectors.
It's neat.
It does a good job.
I've got a USB stick in the back here with some eyes,
so I'll put that at the end of the video. You'll see the
Tonight's what it looks like and then Tara's got her light.
So I went to Costco and she loves her white lights
So these were on sale.
Wow, I didn't even think they were on sale.
They were just, they were regular price.
They were $24.99, so the 99 cent means it's a regular price.
They all have their different codes for the different,
but these are two sets of 100.
They're C6 lights, so they're the smaller ones.
So there's 200 feet there.
And I told Mark to buy as many as he loves me.
Well, it's basically as many as I could carry.
So a guy in line actually said, he had a few things in his cart,
he's like, would you like my cart?
And I said, sure.
So FYI, I got a lot.
Yeah, so there's eight.
1,600 feet.
Yeah, eight of those, so 1,600 feet worth.
1,600 feet of more white luck.
Yeah.
So put them up before it gets too cold.
Figure out where you want to put them.
Yeah.
Coda, you're back again?
Yep, it's Black Cat Night, Coda.
Yeah.
Halloween.
Speaking of our black cats, let's do a little update.
We have Lucifer.
Hi.
How you doing, buddy?
That's Sister Rhea.
There's lighting in here.
See, that's the problem with black cats.
They are just voids.
Are you stuck on the couch?
And then, oh, Mama's over here.
So, Inara.
Not Inara.
That's Zoria.
That's Zoria.
They're both floofies.
She's not going to be up there.
No, she's not.
And then, we have Nyx.
Hello, Nyx. Hi.
How am I going to get him?
You're all fuzzy. There we go. That's better.
Attitude. Look at the leg.
Uh, and...
And...
I don't know where Inara is.
Is that Tyr?
Hi, buddy.
Don't get up. Yeah.
We've had him... Oh, man. It's got to be...
Is it six years?
You're still just... Yeah.
You're still just feral, aren't you? You're better.
But he does come and call for treats.
Are you drooling?
He's our little drool monster.
Look how impressed he looks.
He's like, get that camera out of my face.
And Toby!
Toby!
The white dog, you look like a mess.
Like what?
He should be black.
He's like, here, here.
Here, here.
You'll have to go to him.
He's going to run away.
Here
he is.
The way to a cat's heart
is
treat.
Ah.
Tyr? Good boy, Tyr.
Can you back off?
Yeah.
So he's, like, he's, yeah, he's not hands-on, but he's happy.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Thank you, Poop.
Now they're all gone.
Yeah.
He's just, he's licking it off my finger.
Can you take that?
Yeah.
And when you open a can of tuna, and he's like,
oh, my gosh, right in there like crazy.
You know,
such a pushy.
You know, you think you get enough meat, man.
It's dinner time. He's like right there for meat, chips, bread.
You're such a...
Four, five, six. Yeah, that's the...
The other ones must be downstairs.
No, there's Tiana's room.
Ah, there's Tiana.
She's hoarding the others. That's Aurora and Eros, likely.
Oh, gosh.
I love his little...
Hi, Tear.
She's over here now.
Tear.
That's better.
Oh, Tear.
Hi, Zoria.
All right, you want some?
Tear's like, no, I want it.
All right.
You're so sweet.
You're not sweet, you're greedy.
Boys,
you've got it
on your nose.
You've got it on your nose.
Bye,
Max.
And this is what happens
when we bring the treats out.
You've got your good boy.
Like, I mean, come on,
you've come far.
Koda, chill.
Oh, you're
so slow.
Some of them you have to put it on their nose because they're too slow.
That's
not so slow.
Banara.
Banara.
Peered.
I'm giving you
my peer.
Yeah,
gimme.
Oh, now you're gonna get it
on your fur.
Okay so that is it for us here at the 10 Acre Woods.
I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween
and we hope you have a wonderful week moving forward.
I'll put some clips here of night time
here on the farm tonight for Halloween right
at the end of this video. So until next week,
have a wonderful week and we hope
to see you next time here at the 10 Acre Woods.
Right? Look everybody else is in a car!
Are they thinking they're too big for halloween?
Okay.
Is that what it is?
They think they're too big
All right
Well, then they don't get anything
Driving. Okay. Thank you for driving. Great.
Those are freeze-dried cherries that I made
