We're seeing images from Arcadia and DeSoto County tonight as well,
where flooding has gotten
so severe that schools will be closed tomorrow and Wednesday.
The sheriff's office is helping rescue people stranded
in homes and businesses.
And this has caught a lot of people off guard in the area.
Let's go to Fox 13's Kimberly Cuison, who's in Arcadia now.
Hi there, Kim. Tell us what you're seeing
out there. I know they had a lot of rain.
Yeah, Mark and Allie, they sure did.
So we're at Little Willie's RV Park out here. And I want to go ahead
and just show you, I'm going to flip the camera around.
Luckily, the water has started to go down.
You can still see some across the way.
This is where the water had gone over.
And this is kind of what residents are dealing with right now.
Now, within the last couple hours, I've been able to see some people
coming out in their trucks as long as they have the higher trucks.
But earlier today, this was a complete river.
And they say that this really took them by surprise.
You know, the rain started last night.
It continued on into this morning.
And they woke up to water right at their doorsteps.
A lot of neighbors out here helping one another.
The sheriff of DeSoto County even drove out here seeing
if anybody needed rescuing.
A lot of people stayed put.
A lot of people had some friends come and get them.
They were moving their cars up.
But the really good thing is right now
for at least Little Willie's right here,
the water is starting to go down.
But there is the concern that the water
from the Peace River will continue to go up.
I stopped at the Peace River campground right
when I got off of 72 coming in from Sarasota County,
kind of going through the Myakka City Park or the Myakka Park rather.
And they are really concerned out there.
I'm not sure if the video is up right now, but they were
Moving some people's homes.
Pulling cars out of there and if you just listen to their concerns,
they've been through this in the past with Hurricane Irma,
with Hurricane Ian and two years ago.
But it's just incredible how much has come up in two days.
Before, you could see the bank, and now it's almost over the bank,
where you could see, like, sand, and it's two days that quick.
So it's going to get pretty rough.
I remember when we came here after the last hurricane,
the amount of people that lost their homes.
People live here.
And, you know, for us, this is a toy.
This is a weekend getaway.
But for some people, it was everything they had.
And I feel for them.
Yeah, we do feel for them.
We've seen this type of flooding before in Sarasota County
and parts of Tampa, just all over the Bay Area before.
So you know how hard this is when people go through this.
But taking a look back out here in Arcadia, the water,
at least where I am at, is starting to go down.
Residents here, at least in this park, at least in this campground,
are breathing a little bit of a sigh of relief.
But the next couple of days,
I'm going to flip it back over here. That's...
What will be kind of the wait and see point,
especially for those who live
right on the Peace River. Mark and Ali, back to you.
All right, Kim, thanks very much.
