And it is down to the wire in the race for governor
with just four days left until election
day. Byron Donalds and David Jolly are traveling
the state hoping to close the deal. For Democrat
David Jolly, it means trying to overcome the slight
but consistent lead held by Republican
Byron Donalds. Jolly just wrapped up a rally in Ybor City,
which is where we find our Fox 13's
Blake Divine. Blake, wow,
it's been a busy day on the campaign trail today, hasn't it?
It certainly has.
We are just four days away from the midterm elections tonight.
Democrat David Jolly made several stops throughout the Sunshine State,
all in an effort to make that final push for voters.
From the villages to St. Petersburg to Ybor City,
David Jolly spent Friday crisscrossing
the state ahead of Tuesday's election.
We shouldn't care if you're a Democrat,
an Independent, or a Republican.
We have a nation that is crumbling.
We have a state that is falling away from us,
and we have leaders telling us to just stay divided.
The former Republican previously represented parts
of Pinellas County in Congress, now a Democrat.
He's campaigning on lower housing costs,
improving health care, and investing in public schools.
We have a historic opportunity as a state
to elect a Democratic governor.
I love what I'm seeing in the early turnout numbers right now,
but we gotta hold on to that.
Thus far, over 4.3 million Floridians have already cast their ballots,
accounting for roughly 31% of registered voters.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says
Republicans will need a big turnout on election day.
You basically gotta turn out. And if you
turn out, then the state will likely continue to do very well.
But if you don't, I think the
I think the Democrats have turned out pretty good.
As early voting wraps up this weekend,
Jolly tells us Tampa Bay could play a pivotal part
in electing Florida's next governor.
The Tampa Bay region very well could elect the next governor.
And I'll be honest with you,
it could be Tampa Bay Republicans that swing this race.
On Saturday, Jolly is slated to speak during rallies
and loops in Sarasota.
After that, he'll be heading down
to South Florida for even more campaign stops
as this blitz throughout the final days
of the election come down to the wire.
Back to you.
All right, Blake Divine, live in Ybor City tonight.
Blake, thank you.
