Car crashes into daycare

A terrifying close call in Winter Haven this morning after a crash sent a car barreling right into a daycare. Police say a Citrus Connection bus collided with a sedan, pushing that car off the road and through the front window of the school. Fox 13's Carla Byron joins us live along State Road 544. Carla, scary morning for parents. How are those kids doing? We did confirm that five children were taken to the hospital with possible minor injuries, though I was told that that was done just out of an abundance of caution. Over my shoulder, you can see that workers have put up They've covered up the hole here where the car smashed through the front of this child care building. Here's a picture of what it looked like earlier while that sedan was still present. Winter Haven police say shortly after 11 a.m., a Citrus Connection bus collided with a car that then went off the roadway and smashed into private Christian school child care. George Aguilar works at Gold Star Pawn and Gun next door. He heard what sounded like a car crash, saw the bus come to a stop. Watch the blue sedan roll and hit the school and then call 911 as a father himself. He says he had to act quickly. I know that there's kids next door. So as soon as I saw that building, I was like, please, no kids get hurt. I guess the dad instinct is just like, oh, mine was called for help and then rush over. Aguilar adds there are accidents that happen quite often here because a lot of people like to speed in this area. The driver of the sedan was also taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. As far as what caused this crash, we don't know. That's still under investigation. One more thing I want to add is that the pawnbroker told me it was raining kind of hard. It wasn't downpouring at the time, but that definitely could be a factor in what caused this crash because the roads are slick out here. Carla Byron reporting tonight. Carla, thank you.
