The only thing more frightening than
the trick-or-treaters at your door could be the
traffic out your windshield.
We'll show you the scariest trouble spots to avoid this Halloween.
We will manage to stay dry,
but those temperatures could drop overnight. We'll have your Halloween
night forecast with meteorologist Ilona McCauley.
A mass shooting inside of a busy Halloween store
leaves a pregnant woman dead and several people injured.
Where the investigation stands tonight.
Good evening. I'm Sean Chitnis in for Frankie Thompson.
One of the scariest things drivers
might face this weekend, the backups and traffic on the roads.
Fox 13's Adam Gerke has a breakdown
of what to expect for Halloween weekend traffic.
We are in the midst of a very
Busy weekend happening right through downtown Seattle,
still northbound I-5 with Revive I-5.
The work being wrapped up this weekend from I-90 up to 45th,
northbound I-5, completely shut down.
And that'll be the case until Monday morning, 5 a.m.
So they've got to get the barriers scooched out of the way
and the lanes restriped and everything functioning as it should.
This is going to be a hard impact for drivers through downtown Seattle,
putting impact on surface streets and other bridge decks.
We'll be right back.
405, speaking of 405, Bothell-Woodinville, southbound 405,
from 527 to 522, completely closed until Monday morning, 4 a.m.
This to remove the pedestrian overpass in the area,
and that is going to be a big deal for you.
Mount Vernon also dealing with some closures this weekend.
You were already seeing an eastbound closure
on the Skagit River Bridge, 536.
As of tomorrow, you will see a full closure of 536 both directions.
That means you're going to have to use State Route 20
to the north and then use I-5 instead.
But this will hopefully get work done just a little bit faster.
And that is a lot on your plate.
Also this weekend, daylight saving time comes
to an end as we fall back early Sunday morning.
That, of course, means sunset happens an hour earlier
as we approach what many call the big dark months.
The Pacific time zone in the U.S. moves back to standard time at 2 a.m.
Some clocks, like your phone, will automatically fall back to 1 a.m.
Otherwise, remember to change clocks on your desk,
wall, microwave, or oven manually.
Cooler with a mix of sun and clouds on this Halloween,
but we will stay dry as Fox 13 meteorologist Alona McCauley
shows us we could see temperatures take a tumble overnight.
Well, happy Halloween, everyone. We got off
to a spooky start early this morning with a lot of dense fog.
We're going to be in great shape, though,
for trick-or-treaters and all who are going to celebrate late tonight.
Temperatures will be cooling off.
In fact, by 10 p.m., we're going to be in those low 40s
and then dropping into the 30s by overnight tonight.
Now, that fog will redevelop after midnight tonight,
just kind of adding to the ambiance of Halloween, if you will.
It will stick around into early Sunday morning,
but then quickly start to dissipate.
And we're going to be in store for a good bit of sunshine into the
afternoon and evening hours as we check out the overnight lows tonight.
It will be a chilly Halloween for us. We're going to drop down
to right around 37 degrees in parts of Seattle, 35 degrees in Tacoma,
and we're going to bottom out close to 40 degrees up around Everett.
Now coming up, we'll take a look at your extended forecast,
which has a slight chance of rain by late in the week.
That's all straight ahead.
All right, we're following breaking news in Marysville where police
and Region 1 SWAT teams
are responding to some kind of disturbance.
It's happening near Cedar Crest Golf Course,
not far from State Highway 9 and 84th Street.
Marysville PD are asking for people to avoid the
area. Police say the incident is confined to one property.
We've reached out to Marysville
Police for more information and are waiting to hear back tonight.
A suspect is still on the run after a pregnant woman
was killed by gunfire at a Spirit Halloween
store in Northern California Friday night.
Fairfield police say the shooting happened
around 8.30 inside the busy store,
injuring six people and killing the 31-year-old mother-to-be.
Three of the victims, including a teenager,
are in critical condition. So far, no arrests have
been made. Police are reviewing surveillance footage
in what they're calling a targeted shooting.
An emotional tribute in Tukwila for a beloved student athlete
who was killed last Friday.
Two school communities came together
to honor the life of DJ Tuyi Yasusopo.
Teammates, family, and the surrounding community came together
at Foster High School to pay tribute
to the 16-year-old before last night's game.
DJ had just played his final game at Federal Way High School
when he was killed in a DUI crash involving a speeding car.
The teen was a star student athlete. Friends we spoke with say
the turnout itself for Friday's memorial speaks volumes about DJ.
It just shows the type of person that he was.
You see all these people, they're here for a reason.
You know, it's for DJ. We're here for him.
He's looking down at us. The love, exactly.
It's what he would want. Just love, kindness and peace.
The teen died when a suspected drunk driver collided with a speeding
car just before 11 o'clock last Friday.
DJ was hit as he stood on the sidewalk near 304th Avenue South
and Pacific Highway.
The two drivers involved are charged
with vehicular homicide in DJ's death.
All right, the Seahawks get a bonus day to prepare
for another primetime game at Lumen Field.
Fox 13's Lauren Helmbrecht has the latest on Seattle's injury
report ahead of the team's Monday night matchup with the Bears.
To the tune of Frankenstein, the running backs are alive.
On this Halloween day,
Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price took
the field for Seattle's final practice
ahead of their Monday night meeting with the Chicago Bears.
Charbonnet is expected to make his season debut.
While Price did not have an injury designation,
he is expected to be activated and take the field on Monday as well.
We have a plan for Zach and with JD, I think
I think...
If we were to make a move, I think
that would happen on Monday, to my knowledge.
It's time to go.
It's time to step our game forward,
and there's a sense of urgency to grow.
It's not like those guys haven't been together.
They've been in the room the whole time.
Certain guys have been playing, certain haven't.
I think it's a cool way for Sharps to get his opportunity to come in.
Coach McDonald made a point
to emphasize how impressive it is that Charbonnet is back
in football shape less than nine months after his ACL surgery,
a recovery that can typically
take up to a full year.
To come back on the timetable he
is and to be in the position that he is and the work
ethic that he's shown and been able
to work through what it takes to get back from an
injury like that at this point in time is remarkable.
Zach's a guy that kind of works in the shadows and I think
I think he already had our respect,
but just hopefully people understand
what kind of stud this guy is to come back
on this timetable and be ready to go.
The running backs not only get the gift of returning to the field,
but also playing behind
an eight-time Pro Bowl left guard in Quentin Nelson,
who's gearing up himself for his Seahawks debut.
He's done a phenomenal, phenomenal job.
Just like you can feel the poise, the confidence.
You know, it's way more new for him than it is for us, you know.
So for him to come in and just kind of,
Get right to work and really attack it and lean on his teammates
and also, you know, like we were saying earlier,
I'm sure there's a lot of knowledge being passed around, but, you know,
I think right now is focused on just trying to get game ready
so we can go play his best ball.
And for Seattle's remaining injury report, tackle Charles Cross,
running back Vellis Jones Jr. and wide
receiver Rashid Shahid are all ruled out.
Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu is doubtful for Monday night's matchup,
and four players are listed as questionable.
But for any fans who were scared that Seattle's top running backs
were far from making their return,
well, you can thank the Seahawks for this Halloween treat.
Reporting at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Fox 13 Sports,
I'm Lauren Helmreich.
Election day, of course, is on Tuesday,
but what we're seeing, which is extremely unfortunate
more and more, is that individuals
who drop their ballot in the mailbox a few days before
the election, those ballots are not always getting postmarked.
And of course, the rule is you got to be postmarked by election day.
Governor Bob Ferguson says a ballot dropbox is your best bet
to ensure your vote is counted in Tuesday's midterms.
The governor dropped his ballot
at South Puget Sound Community College on Friday.
We have a map with all of the area dropboxes at Fox13Seattle.com.
Well, in this final weekend before Election Day, candidates from across
the country are making one last push to get voters to the polls.
Fox News reporter C.B. Cotton has the latest.
Three days to go until election day.
Candidates in battleground states
are making their final appeals to voters.
Key races could decide control of both chambers of Congress.
I'm asking you to look at my record.
Compare that to James Tallarico,
the most radical Democrat to ever run statewide in Texas.
The Lone Star State has seemed unlikely for Democrats to crack,
but state representative James Tallarico might
be giving the party a shot at a Senate race upset.
Most polls show the Democrats
Narrowly ahead of Republican Attorney General, Ken Paxton.
This election should be about chasing a vision.
Of what this state can be.
And in Ohio, voters are showing up in droves.
Early voting hit a record number within the
state Saturday. I think they see the stakes
and they're turning out big.
Their gubernatorial race has been thrown onto the national stage
after an anti Amy Acton ad from the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign
exploded with controversy,
leaving the GOP scrambling to do damage control.
Ramaswamy went to a new low in politics.
And drama in Michigan where Democrat
Abdul El-Sayed and
And former GOP Congressman Mike Rogers
are locked in a tight Senate race.
Some Dems are worried a blow up between El-Sayed and
Congresswoman Haley Stevens could risk their chance at a seat.
Following sources reporting
El-Sayed's campaign told Stevens to stay away from
future election events after she asked him
to apologize for his criticism of Israel.
It's been an explosive 24 hours
in the most important race in the country.
Early voting is running well ahead at the last midterm election,
with millions more Americans casting their ballot.
In New York City, C.B. Cotton, Fox News.
Stay tuned. We've got more news ahead.
This is Seattle News Tonight on Fox 13
and streaming on Fox Local.
It's been one week since Pierce County Ferry Service
from Steilacoom to Anderson and Ketron
Islands went down for three days, leaving commuters stranded.
Officers had to order
parts from Canada to get repair work done.
FOX 13's Dan Griffin went to Anderson Island
when service resumed a few days ago
and residents were breathing a big sigh of relief.
People certainly, certainly are emotional when it happens.
The Steilacoom 2 is running again to Anderson and Ketron Islands.
Local Jeremy Campbell knows it's a critical lifeline.
The ferry is our road and all of our essential supplies, our mail,
you know, our medicines and, you know, everything comes over.
From, you know, on the ferry.
Across South Puget Sound,
running your own boat might just be the only option.
Camel and Captain Corey Felden stepped
in to help stranded neighbors with theirs.
A lot of people out here,
they move to an island, they don't have a boat.
They kind of feel when this happens, they feel stranded.
They found Richard Anderson,
no relation to the island's name, mid-crossing.
I said, you know what, let's take the kayaks,
let's strap my 100-pound e-bike on my kayak.
And the plan was to come over here, and it was squirrely as heck.
Saturday's breakdown came as all four propulsion signal
boards failed simultaneously, including backups.
With no spares in the U.S.,
crews rush-ordered parts from British Columbia.
Even worse, the second ferry was sidelined
for a mandatory Coast Guard inspection.
As riders waited, worried and feeling uninformed,
Campbell says state lawmakers spoke up.
Representative Leavitt has done an amazing job advocating for us.
Parts arrived Tuesday after some test runs resumed.
Now Pierce County wants to prevent another total shutdown.
We're going to be working to build trust with the community
to make sure that when we have future mechanical failures,
that they can rely on us for timely information.
For residents on Puget Sound's southernmost island,
that reliability is everything.
It's not the breakdown that people are upset about. It's just
The communications
and the lack of mutual aid agreements being in place,
but they're working on that. They've got several things in the works.
Dan Griffin, Fox 13 News.
Ferry crews have been managing the traffic flow over
the past few days to play catch-up.
At last check, service is running normal.
Well, as October comes to an end,
so will road work on State Route 504 near Mount St. Helens.
It's wrapped up for the season.
WSDOT says their timeline for a reopening
in May of 2027 is still on target.
Crews paused work briefly in September on the Spirit Lake Outlet Bridge
as they waited for girders to be shipped to the site.
Work resumed before the planned shutdown by the end of this week.
A landslide washed out the road
and culvert two different times back in 2023.
Construction will resume in the spring when conditions permit,
allowing visitors to once again reach the Johnston Ridge Observatory.
Consumer Affairs released a new report ranking the most
and least reliable airports in the U.S.
Well, believe it or not, SeaTac landed in the top three.
Los Angeles International took the top slot,
followed by Phoenix Sky Harbor International.
Behind SEA was Salt Lake City International
and Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta.
Researchers analyzed the airport's reliability based
on their rate of delays, cancellations, and diversions.
Here's the top five least reliable airports.
Reagan National outside of Washington, D.C.
Fort Worth, Newark, Miami, and Philadelphia.
Well, tonight is Halloween,
which means ghosts and the supernatural are back in the spotlight.
More than a century ago, though, spiritualism was all the rage,
at least for some here in the Emerald City.
FOX 13's Lauren Donovan takes us back to a time when Seattle
was just as fascinated with the afterlife as it was with the future.
One of Seattle's founding most prominent families
were spiritualists into free love,
seances, talking to the dead.
Man, what I love to have been like a fly on the wall for those seances.
Imagine stepping into the parlor
of a stately Seattle mansion more than a century ago.
A home fit for someone like millionaire mayor Henry Yesler.
I have to imagine folks would be in their best,
in their top hats, in their furs, in
their jewels.
But the most anticipated guests have not arrived,
at least not from this world.
Kind of what you see on movies, people sitting around a round table.
There at the center, a medium,
someone believed to bridge the gap between the living and the dead.
Seems far-fetched, right? In today's skyscraper lined Seattle, but...
Back then, spiritualism was really popular
in America between the 1850s to about the 1920s, 1930s.
A lot of mediums and people that practiced alternative medicine,
they were kind of intermeshed with each other,
would rent rooms in the hotels down here in Pioneer Square.
Author and historian Brad Holden says you could open
the Post-Intelligencer and spot them.
Clairvoyance, one after another.
Right beneath church announcements,
psychic societies.
The basic tenet of spiritualism is
that after you die, your soul
becomes a spirit and lives on, and
that people that are still living
can communicate with those in
the spirit world.
And as Abby Armato with
the Washington Trust for
Historic Preservation explains.
And spiritualism too at its core
is about grief and
about connecting to people that
we've loved and lost.
And it is believed that
This is how Henry and
Sarah Yesler got involved.
So the Yeslers were a very
unconventional couple,
especially for back then.
The couple came under
the influence of an astrologer
named William Henry Chaney.
Me.
They eventually fell under his spell after their son died.
They had a 15-year-old son who died.
They were grief-stricken.
So it was an easy belief for them to follow.
And his connection to the Yeslers,
it led to one more unexpected chapter.
Chaney became involved with a friend of Sarah's
who later followed him to San Francisco.
They had a son together.
He eventually abandoned the family,
but the son would later grow up to be Jack London.
Yes.
The future author of The Call of the Wild.
It's a story full of astonishing connections.
But more than a century later,
there's one link that still hits close to home.
And in some ways I feel like maybe we haven't moved
as far away from it as we
maybe feel like we have or thought we had.
I think about the Ouija board,
which came out of the spiritualism movement and
then became a mass marketed game.
Beyond the parlor tricks and ghost stories,
there's something more human at the heart of it all.
For the Yeslers, it was the loss of their son and the hope that,
well, maybe death didn't have to mean goodbye.
And so I think to take those, what I feel like are often
natural human instincts to want to be whisked away from reality
and then adding that layer of grief for the Yeslers,
I feel like, why not?
Reporting in Seattle, Lauren Donovan, Fox 13 News.
And on this Halloween night, animal welfare experts want pet owners
to be aware of some of the risks to their furry friends.
When it comes to dogs, one of the biggest dangers
with Halloween candy is chocolate toxicity.
Darker chocolates are going to be more toxic.
Chocolate specifically is going to target the GI tract
and then also the heart.
So it can cause an arrhythmia that could cause
the dog's heart to beat too fast.
And they could also develop neurologic signs
that could lead to seizures.
It could lead to a coma.
It could also lead, because they could still be vomiting,
it could cause them to aspirate
and they could develop pneumonia as well.
So when trick-or-treaters show up,
all the doorbells knocking and strange visitors
can be stressful for pets.
So you may want to keep them in a secluded area.
Costco unveiled its 2026 Thanksgiving all-in-one meal kit.
It includes a five-pound turkey breast with gravy and cranberry relish.
The side dishes are mashed potatoes,
green bean casserole, mac and cheese, cornbread stuffing,
sweet corn, candied yams, and dinner rolls.
You get two desserts, too, pumpkin pie and apple cobbler.
The dinner deal feeds a total of eight people.
It's only available online, though, and costs $200.
And we'll be right back.
Hi there, everyone, from the FOX 13 Weather Center.
I'm meteorologist Ilona McCauley.
Happy Halloween.
I hope you're having a fabulous day and into the evening hours.
We are looking for some great weather
for trick-or-treating tonight as opposed to last
year when it was a sog fest outside for the kiddos.
We're going to be looking for drier skies.
Another foggy start to the day on Sunday.
It will clear off very nicely, though,
and a good bit of sunshine expected as we close
out the weekend.
Again, more clouds for your election day
with some slight chances of showers.
Showers in that extended forecast looking
at things for the remainder of the evening again,
partly cloudy skies expected as we get into the evening hours
that fog will redevelop as the clouds clear out the skies will clear.
We've got that wet ground allowing for that fog to redevelop,
but it will burn off as we get into the afternoon hours on Sunday,
clear skies into the overnight hours,
but we will watch for some increasing cloud covers.
We start off the week on Monday,
but dry skies expected for the next few days.
As we check out that rain forecast,
nothing in there that we need to be concerned about.
Overnight tonight, it will be cool for trick-or-treaters, so bundle up.
Upper 30s around Seattle, 34 degrees in Bremerton.
We're going to be below freezing
from Shelton all the way down to Centralia.
Highs for tomorrow looking about the same as they did for Saturday,
so slightly below average for this time of year.
Mid-50s in Seattle and Tacoma, Olympia as well,
right around 50 degrees in Everett.
Temperatures toward the east side.
For a mix of some low 50s to right around 55 degrees there in Bellevue.
And off to the south, temperatures holding steady
at 55 degrees there in Tacoma.
Low 50s around the waterfront in Everett
and into the island communities.
Your seven-day forecast will show increase
in clouds for the early part of the week.
But the rain will hold off until later in the week.
Thursday, Friday, slight chance lingering
on into next weekend on Saturday.
Looking good for the big Seahawks game
on Monday Night Football at Lumen Field.
Highs near 56.
That's all for Seattle News tonight.
