Video out of Pierce County shows a 23-year-old suspect leading
investigators on a dangerous chase early this morning.
Deputies tell us they stopped the man before he could carjack a victim.
FOX 13's A.J. Janneville breaks down this wild scene
and tells you what led up to it. A.J.?
David, deputies say the suspect was driving
at speeds more than 100 miles per hour.
Investigators say when they arrested the suspect,
he told them he just smoked meth.
Like it just dropped
from the off-ramp on 512.
He's running, he's running, white sweater,
black pants, running towards 512th Northbound.
He's gonna try
to carjack somebody here.
This is the project in front of us over the canyon.
Dash cam footage shows a suspect running along
the highway at three in the morning
after wrecking his car. Hey, someone get in contact with that guy.
All right, guys.
Go contact that guy over there, cuz we got carjacking.
Yeah, we saw you, bud.
Deputy Carly Capetto with the Pierce County
Sheriff's Office tells me the suspect was
able to smash out a passing driver's window.
The original reason investigators said they
tried to stop this suspect was for reckless driving,
but developed into much more.
He does know that he messed up.
He tells that to deputies and then he shares
that prior to that pursuit, he had smoked that methamphetamine.
I mean, we have seen this in past
calls where
Drugs have been used prior to a high speed chase
and people get hurt and they can die.
That suspect is behind bars and facing charges for DUI, robbery,
eluding law enforcement as well
as warrants in other jurisdictions.
Back to you.
