We are now just two days out from election day,
and we are getting new data on early voting.
Fox 13's Sam Campbell has more from one
of our state's most popular ballot drop boxes.
It looks like a signal might be coming in and out.
Well, that's right, Lauren.
So our Secretary of State has put out some new data on early
voting here in Washington state.
And of the 5.1 million ballots that have been mailed out,
about 1.7 million people have returned theirs,
most of them at a drop box like this one outside
the Ballard Public Library.
And so how many of the ballots here in Washington are getting rejected?
That's one of the main questions we have. Well, the answer is not.
Much. The Secretary of State says about 10,700 ballots have
been challenged. That's only about 0.6% of the returned ballots.
The top reasons, mismatching and missing signatures.
So make sure you are signing your ballots before you turn them in.
And let's take a look at the turnout here.
Data from the Secretary of State shows that four days prior
to the election day in 2022, we had about 32.2% turnout in Washington.
You compare that with the latest data as of Friday, 32.2%.
2.8%, meaning we are just barely higher so far this year.
But still, we have a couple more days until Election Day,
and that means if you are not yet registered to vote,
you have until Tuesday to do so.
But it's going to have to be in person at an election office.
That's because it is now too late to register online,
and it may be too late to mail your vote too.
Election Day, of course, is on Tuesday,
but what we're seeing...
Which is extremely unfortunate, more and more,
is that individuals who drop their ballot
in the mailbox a few days before the election,
those ballots are not always getting postmarked.
And of course, the rule is you gotta be postmarked by election day.
On Friday, the governor dropped off his ballot
at a box near South Puget Sound Community College.
Now, we have a map with all of the drop boxes
that you might be able to drop off your ballot at.
You can check it out on fox13.com.
But for now, live in Ballard, Sam Campbell, Fox 13 News.
