It's running out for you to be able to take part in early voting.
Yeah, today is the last day you can cast
a ballot before Election Day on Tuesday.
And a record more than 2.5 million Georgians have already voted early.
So a big turnout so far.
Yeah, Good Day's Mark Teichner has our story live from DeKalb County,
an early voting location.
Good morning, Mark.
Yeah, good morning, guys,
and expect some lines out here at this particular early voting location
and those all across the state, because as you mentioned,
this is the last chance that folks will be able to do it. If you don't,
you're going to have to wait till Tuesday to cast your ballot.
And it does appear that early voting has been quite
a success this particular election cycle.
That's because we have just broken the record already
with one more day to go, just over 2.5 million ballots.
Now, that includes both in-person as well
as absentee mail-in early voting.
2.4 million of those, a vast majority, have been in-person voting.
And that's what's really taken off
because that shattered the old record from 2022 of 2.2 million.
What we've actually seen is an amazing amount of drop-off
when it comes to that mail-in absentee voting.
Their numbers are actually down by half.
But still, when you add it all up,
we've gotten a few more people have come out to cast their
ballots. We did talk with Secretary
of State Brad Raffensperger earlier in the week, and he said he
was really excited about these early voting numbers.
Having really strong turnout, about
five to seven percent higher than we had back
in 2022 with one last day of voting. We'll give you
short lines, quick results, photo ID,
citizenship verification, and then audit upon audit.
We have, as we mentioned,
broken a midterm early voting record, but not an overall one.
Back in 2024, the presidential race, get this,
4 million Georgians cast early ballots,
so we probably won't get there today.
As far as your particular early voting location,
make sure you check in advance,
know the hours and the locations.
Likely will be different from where you would cast
your ballot if you wait and go out on Tuesday.
A little more of the story for you coming up at 6 o'clock.
But for now, that's the latest.
This is the latest from here in DeKalb County.
I'm Mark Teichner for Good Day Atlanta.
All right, Mark, thanks for the update.
We'll see you soon.
