We learned today, Jeff Simmons there,
the biggest nose tackle, defensive tackle, guy
that's going to plug up in the league.
The Bears clearly pushing all in on this season,
and kudos to them for doing so.
But two ones and a four.
Am I correct for a defensive tackle or a defensive tackle?
Yeah.
Did they overpay?
Listen, if they win a Super Bowl, who cares?
They did not overpay.
Right, exactly.
Even if they get to the Super Bowl,
I think they think they can get to the Super Bowl with this team.
I do.
Wow.
Yeah, I think they think they can get there.
Yeah, I do.
Now, I think they can too.
I mean, this is the team that I like to go to the Super Bowl,
but I personally could
not have endorsed giving up two first-round picks
for a D tackle.
There's no way.
As good as Simmons is like, you know, we,
we see these guys coming and these guys, these
D tackles, like some of them play a long time,
some break down, man, you know, and, you know,
the only D tackle in the last 10 years,
better than him is, is, uh, is Aaron Donald.
That's it.
Like, that's the list.
Darren Donald's the only one better Simmons,
a hall of favor, by the way, a franchise player,
but, and, and the bears paid through the nose on this one.
So they better be good.
But, yeah, I think, Joe,
it's fair to say that the Bears are all in for now.
It's a great year to go all in if you're them.
You don't have to sit and look at KC.
You don't have to sit and look at Buffalo.
You don't have to sit and look at Lamar with Baltimore.
This is like the American League, honestly.
Like, I mean, San Francisco's the only team in the way, Joe.
And I think that you probably...
You know, we may get to the NFC Championship.
You and I will be sitting here in January.
I got a feeling you and I are going to
take whoever San Francisco is playing
and take the points in the NFC Championship.
I think we probably will be there.
So why not the Bears?
Why not Seattle?
The NFC is wide open.
Absolutely wide open.
If Carolina doesn't step up
and become the team that I thought that they looked
like they were going to be, that division stinks.
The East stinks.
The West has one team.
You know, the Bears division is probably the best division in the NFC.
So, yeah, kudos to the Bears for going for it.
But, man, this better pay off.
I'm looking at his numbers right here.
Last season, Simmons had 11 sacks on the season.
The entire front defensive lineman
for the Bears last year had a total of 10.5.
So the entire defensive line didn't have
as many sacks as Simmons had last year in that spot.
I mean, there is no doubt he's a game changer,
much like I would compare him,
and you tell me this is fair or not, Chris Jones and Kansas City,
and what he brought to the table there where, are you running?
Now, because to me,
the biggest part about not liking the Bears was the defense.
Like, you're going to be able to run on them.
You're going to be able to get play action.
You're going to be able to pass.
You just, granted you gave it up, but you just,
you solved a big problem right now in this.
So, I think this is going to be fascinating.
You have to believe, though, if you're Ryan Pauls, the GM.
You have to believe you have everything it takes
and this was the one piece you were
missing to give up two number ones.
No.
Yeah, I think so, yeah.
I think so.
The comparison you gave of Chris Jones, which is a good one,
a lot of people are saying that this is the equivalent.
If you want to go back about 15 years,
this is the equivalent of, hypothetically, Joe,
in his prime, the Bears getting Warren Sapp.
That's the tip.
Even though we don't like Sapp as a person,
we all agree he's the worst.
But as a player, this is like getting that guy.
Up the middle, who is in the Hall of Fame,
who for five, six years with Tampa Bay was the very
best player at his position in the NFL.
He couldn't run up the middle. He had to block
him with two guys. He wasn't to the level of Aaron Donald,
because Aaron Donald, I think,
was maybe the best to ever play the position or close to it.
But just a step below that,
that's where Jeffrey Simmons is. And I guess Tennessee.
You know, you kind of look at it from their perspective, Joe.
You also, I think, have to say, fair to say,
for Tennessee, great trade for them too.
Because Simmons clearly wasn't happy,
and the Titans are not winning anything this year,
they're not winning anything next year,
and now you can stare at the Titans and say,
maybe this team is not going to be the most anonymous team in the NFL.
Like, to me, that's who they are.
It's the least talked about team in the NFL.
As bad as the Jets are, they're in New York.
We're still talking about them, right?
As bad as the Chargers are, they're in Los Angeles,
they got Harbaugh, they got McDaniel,
they got Herbert, you know, we're talking about them.
No one talks about the Titans.
They don't make the red zone every week, you know?
So that's a big part of this, too.
So I like the deal for Tennessee.
I think they hit a big home run.
They'll have two first picks.
One of them may be the 30th pick if the Bears win the Super Bowl.
I guess that's a problem with that.
But good trade for both sides,
but more risk on the Chicago side, Joe, as you alluded to.
Absolutely true.
