Olivier salad is the most traditional Russian and Eastern European dish. It used to be made for holidays, parties and other special occasions. New Year’s Eve is the biggest holiday of all, and “Olivie” would be on almost all the tables as the clock would strike midnight. The ingredients are quite common and are pantry staples for most. It resembles a potato salad, of sorts, with the addition of other cooked vegetables and meat. In this recipe I did not use meat, so its a vegetarian Olivie. All the components of the salad mingle and meld to create a hearty, comforting salad.
Welcome to my channel Alla's Yummy Food.
Today I'm going to share with you my favorite
recipe of Olivier salad, which is also called мясной салат.
However, this version
contains no meat, so it's perfect for vegetarians.
And in London it's really, really hard to
find колбаса, which is like a pork sausage
that goes into this salad. So I'm making a
meatless version,
but it's still so amazing and it associates with New Year's for me.
that's why I'm doing it for the holiday
and I hope you enjoy this recipe. We're
going to need eggs, green peas, carrots,
potatoes, gherkins, mayonnaise, salt and
pepper. Place your carrots
and potatoes into a medium pot and we're going to
cook it just until it's tender for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Place your eggs into a
pot and we're going to boil them for about 10 minutes.
Peel your eggs and place
them into a bowl.
Once you've peeled all your eggs we're just going to do the
same with our potatoes
and carrots.
Everything into nice cubes.
Lastly chop
up your eggs into small bite-sized pieces.
Into a large bowl add all your
potatoes, your carrots,
gherkins and egg.
Add salt and pepper, add green peas and
mayonnaise.
Mix your salad really really well.
I like to serve it on a plate in a
nice round circle. So just add your salad inside.
