American media reports that the United States may stop providing Ukraine with intelligence information needed to carry out strikes against Russian targets. A retired captain of the 3rd rank, who previously served in Ukrainian military intelligence, discusses this issue with Krym.Realii.

"In modern warfare, long-range strikes simply cannot be carried out without intelligence data. As for Crimea, Ukraine's own intelligence and data from allies other than the United States will suffice for attacks on targets on the peninsula," he noted.

According to him, this is facilitated by both the fact that the Crimean peninsula is Ukrainian territory and its proximity to territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. "This isn't some hypothetical Perm Oblast, where only satellite and human intelligence are possible. Crimea is controlled by Ukrainian radar stations, radio and electronic intelligence stations, and there are plenty of undercover agents on the peninsula. Information is provided by Ukrainian supporters, as well as Crimean partisans. Satellite images and data collected by reconnaissance aircraft and UAVs are helpful, but even without them, the situation is quite clear," explained the retired captain.

The specialist noted that not only the United States, but also other countries allied with Ukraine have satellite reconnaissance.

"The United States certainly has the world's largest constellation of reconnaissance satellites—the NRO system, along with commercial networks like Maxar and Planet. Meanwhile, France is a key European power with its own Helios and CSO satellites. Germany operates radar reconnaissance satellites in the SAR-Lupe and SARah series. The United Kingdom has optical and electronic reconnaissance capabilities from space. Italy operates the COSMO-SkyMed system, which is a radar reconnaissance system," he added.

A former intelligence officer claims that reconnaissance flights over the Black Sea are carried out not only by the United States, but also by other countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.

"According to monitoring channels, the Artemis electronic reconnaissance aircraft most frequently conducts reconnaissance over Crimea and the Krasnodar Krai. It belongs to the American private company Leidos, which services it and provides services to the US Army or NATO structures on a lease basis. In other words, the Army doesn't purchase the aircraft itself, but rather the completed reconnaissance data. Reconnaissance aircraft from other NATO countries also fly over the Black Sea – these include the Royal Air Force's Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint, the French Boeing E-3F Sentry and Breguet Atlantic, and the Italian Air Force's Gulfstream G550 AEW. İn early October, a Swedish S102B Korpen reconnaissance aircraft operated over the sea for several days. This means Ukraine has plenty of reconnaissance data even without the Americans," the former intelligence officer noted.
