This Changes EVERYTHING For the Canucks...
Oct 18, 2026
This changes everything for the Vancouver Canucks.
After coming off a dominant win, we see key players stepping up
to keep the dream alive of making the playoffs.
And this is exactly what the Canucks need to do to make the playoffs.
We're going to break all this down,
the implications going into the rest of the season,
the key players, and the odds
of the Canucks actually making the playoffs.
We have a lot to break down. You're not going to want to miss it.
But with that, before we get into the episode,
I just want to give a shout out to everyone watching this video.
If you haven't subscribed yet, it's completely free.
We'll keep you up to date on everything
to do with the Vancouver Canucks.
And if you don't want to subscribe, that's completely fine as well.
I'm just happy that you're here watching the video.
But with that, let's just hop straight into the first topic today,
where we do know the Calgary Flames are just one point, or tied, sorry,
with the Vancouver Canucks for the wildcard spot.
The Flames do have an extra game in hand,
and that is why they're above the Canucks in the standings.
Now, the biggest thing is,
we've seen the Canucks win against the Flames in the shootout
just last night or the day before depending
when you're watching this and this does change a lot
for the Canucks going in as we do see
the percentages from MoneyPuck of the chances
of the Canucks making the postseason now looking
at this we know it's going to be a battle
going down to the wire to make that final wildcard spot
the Canucks currently sit at 30.2 percent
chance of making the postseason Calgary Flames
29.8 St Louis Blues 29.3 and Utah at 24.8 the
second part is the second round chances to make the second round
but looking at the standings
once again we know the Canucks are currently ahead
of the St Louis Blues and the Utah Hockey Club
so with these teams just behind them
with the Flames technically just above them this is going
to come down to a matter of a couple of points
when the season ends and a team is pushing to
make the playoffs so seeing the Canucks having
the best odds is very rewarding and nice to see
after such a disappointing season
but things are starting to come around and it really starts with
Elias Pettersson now with Petey we're seeing Petey finally get back
to form and I know a lot of you
guys that are haters of Petey are going
to have different say in the comments but as you see the
past three games a goal versus the Minnesota Wild
a goal once again versus Montreal and then he
scores the game-tying goal versus the Calgary Flames scoring
in the shootout Petey is back and
I'm gonna say this kid
is finally getting going again we see three goals in four games which
hasn't happened all season I'm pretty sure
this is the first time this year I'm pretty sure as
well that he had back-to-back goals I think it happened
in January itself but looking at Pettersson
and how he's playing we're finally getting what we had
from him listen a four game sample size
isn't a lot but it's a lot better than what we've
been seeing with Petey we did see him come into
the season and have
a rough start 59 games 14 goals 25 assists 39 points this left a sour
taste in a lot of fans mouth mine included seeing
him being under 20 points with games played so
looking at Petey finally getting
on the score sheet scoring three goals scoring such a big goal
that we've seen in the intro video.
I mean, tying the game up, showing emotion,
having his best game,
and even looking at Rick talking himself
and saying, I have more to give, pretty much.
This kid is finally getting his groove going,
and I think it's going to hit the second tier
for this Canucks team.
And it's exactly what they needed
to finally get going in their favor.
And it doesn't really stop there.
We're seeing a team of, listen, a lot of new faces.
Heedle's a new face on this team.
We see a couple new guys to join this team
at the start of the year.
Drew O'Connor was recently traded for we're seeing the lineup change up
so much the blender talk is
putting these lineups in but it does seem like things
are finally starting to work Pedersen and
Hoglander looked awesome last game Hoglander had
the scoring chances he just couldn't bury one or
really put many points but looking at the top line DeBrusk
is leading the team in goals we're
seeing Besser kind of slow down a bit
but I do think once Hedley really starts going with this
team we're gonna see a play driver that's going
to help with Besser this is a deep team yes they
don't have the top end star talent where we had Wendel
on this team last year JT Miller
all those faces but we do have a team of four lines
that can kind of play in every situation
obviously the fourth line of Amund Bjerg
and Sherwood you wouldn't want out when you need to
score a goal but every other line I would trust
to go out get you that goal we've seen it with
the top line I think every line played well Josh
was finally getting back to form we're seeing him
be a wrecking ball Garland's looked awesome
this season like for Mack he's not in the lineup right
now, but that is another face that could join this lineup,
maybe on the fourth line, with
Bjerg and Sherwood, to add more scoring,
but it doesn't stop just at the forward group,
we do see from Adam on Twitter,
go follow him on Twitter, he puts awesome stuff up,
and I love his stats that he also posts,
he said Quinn Hughes needs 16 points over the
final 17 games to become the Canucks all-time points leader
by a defenseman, listen, missing
Quinn Hughes has been major for this team,
we've seen Quinn Hughes miss some time, he's
missed a lot since the start of the year pretty much
but getting Quinn Hughes back in the lineup
was a massive add for this Canucks team
and they play at such a different pace and just a total
different team in my opinion with them
in the lineup I mean looking at Quinn Hughes 51 games
like 14 goals 47 assists for 61 points even
in a season where he's not 100% where we've seen Rick
Tocchet say he might not be fully 100% for the rest
of the year we're seeing Quinn Hughes continue
to dominate him joining this lineup winning versus
the Calgary Flames in what felt like
and pretty much is a must win game where we're seeing
the odds potentially drop down to 16
if they did lose this game versus someone battling
for that spot in the wildcard standings as well
Quinn Hughes came in captain clutch the Canucks captain is back
and getting him in this lineup
with the emergence of Petey is just the start of who
is stepping up for this Canucks team I mean
looking at Victor Mancini a piece that was added
to the JT Miller trade that a lot of people didn't
know about I mean we had Darius from Rangers Digest
on and he continues to tell me how upset he is
not having Mancini back on this Rangers team going
into the rest of the year and next year he also
talked about how bad Carson Soucy's been for them
but that's for a different video looking at Mancini
once again shout out to Herman as well check him out
on Twitter he puts a lot of stats up about
the Canucks including advanced stats like
this Victor Mancini logged 18 minutes and 25 seconds
at 5v5 last night outshot the Flames 13-7 controlled 81%
of expected goals and outscored
the Flames 1-0 we've seen on the PD game tying goal
when he put the puck on the net during Mancini's
shifts Mancini's quietly been a highly effective contributor
and once again this kid is only 22
years old big right-hander shot defenseman
if you go watch his clips not only is he physical not
only can he pass he
also can skate he has not probably much star potential but he has NHL
experience written all over him and expectations for it
and I do think he's going to make a log
jam on the Canucks next year on the defensive core
which is going to be a good thing and maybe
it gives Tom Willender more time to grow I mean looking
at the defensive pairings for the Canucks
We know Tyler Myers is out for the Canucks right now
Hughes, Pedersen, they looked great
Pedersen and Hronik, once again
It's so funny to see all these Pedersens on the team
Forver Mancini
When we see Myers finally join this team
It's going to be interesting
I do think he takes Mancini's spot
But if Mancini continues to play the way he is
I could see him holding on, fighting to keep the spot
And it's going to be hard for Rick Tocchet
And listen, he loves Tyler Myers
He loves his veterans
So most likely going to take him out
But I think Mancini has a legitimate chance to stay in this lineup,
and I think there's a reason to actually maybe keep him in.
Listen, you're not going to move on from Tyler Myers, but it's going
to make that right side so much more interesting next year.
I know we've recently seen Junior Petey go out with an injury,
and we did see a two-game suspension.
Hand it to the Flames player for it as well.
But I do think Mancini's going to stay on this team,
and maybe with Petey out, we will see him stay with the team.
And just, I mean, looking at the schedule,
they're going to have to win a lot of games
over the next stretch to actually make the playoffs.
Having a 31%, they do have some must-win games.
The game against Utah is a must-win.
Chicago, they should beat.
Winnipeg's going to be a tough matchup.
St. Louis, once again, a must-win.
Playing JT Miller and the New York Rangers,
I mean, just from a fan's standpoint, that
must be a must-win as well.
New Jersey, the Hughes Bros,
it's going to be an interesting five games on this stretch.
and it's going to be a lot of games
of where the Canucks have to go in
when every one of these games
or at the very worst, come out with a point.
I know there's a lot in this episode.
Listen, I'm running on no sleep here.
