Hawks Make SNEAKY good trade... This has MASSIVE implications
Oct 19, 2026
The Atlanta Hawks have traded away,
in my opinion, somebody that was on his way to
riding the ship.
DeAndre Hunter is out of Atlanta,
and I just don't know what to think about it.
We got Chris Tipmore.
He's going to dissect every single thing in regards to that trade.
The trade deadline is an hour past us,
so we're going to talk about not all, but all
of the trades that the Atlanta Hawks have taken
and how they've gone through them.
I think there was another one that kind of came
in the midnight hour proverbially and uh we got
to go into that um a lot of uh I think your word
for it was um salary management yeah cutting
cutting salary if you will cutting salary well
before we get any further this is Atlanta Hawks
Digest my name is Walter Pollard
and I am accompanied by none other than Chris Tipmore
and um yeah we're here listen get used
to these faces get used to them okay you're gonna see a
lot more of us and definitely you're gonna see
a lot more of us doing a lot of lives and a lot
of videos together because I feel as though we have
a Chris we have a good chemistry thus far
we definitely tested it out a couple couple hours ago
and now I think this is something that could
really go through yeah man we know we're both Hawks fans you know
also it's a good thing that
We're both Georgia boys and everything like that.
So, you know, it all kind of, you know what I'm saying,
works and comes together, you know.
And, of course, you know, shout out to the fans and everything because,
of course, without y'all, we're nothing,
you know what I'm saying, here at Hawks Digest.
As we cover everything Atlanta Hawks, no matter what it is, we're going
to talk about it, bring it to you, bring it to your attention.
And we always love the comments, always love,
you know, so you give them your feedback.
and if you're not a part of the Hawks Digest yet man come
on over to the Hawks Digest making us one
of your first listens when it comes to Hawks content man for sure me
and Walter were doing
our thing over here yes sir
so of course uh DeAndre Hunter uh he's been traded away to and
this is what gets me he's been traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers
who i mean granted yes we've
got our we've got our punches
on them you know we got definitely got two good wins away and got two
good wins off of them earlier this year we took
a loss uh not too long ago but uh we definitely
were able to get some good shots at these guys
and they're the they're like the number one team
in the east yeah they are we trade away somebody
who was a glimmer of light in my opinion we give
him to the best team in the i'm confused chris you have all
the information to break it down
uh what is it just let me know what's going
on man okay of course you know um and i i stated back
you know it's in a couple of videos ago man
that you know DeAndre Hunter was someone that the Cavs
were looking at and you know Mark Stein he came out
with it today earlier and when i seen him i
it kind of like you know it's made
the little little sweat come down like oh boy this thing
may be really catching some fire right right
so of course now Hunter has been traded for
Caris LeVert who is an expiring contract
so the Hawks were cutting salary in that regard
George Niang he's on a three-year deal
but it's only like eight million dollars per year um three
uh three second round picks and two pick swaps now
when you look at it it's like okay well
the Hawks you know they made
a good trade now i mean it's subjective very subjective you know
what i'm saying and you know every fan has their opinion
but when you looked at that trade you're
like we just let a 20 point scorer go out of the door for LeVert
and Niang and some picks you know
and again that's what i was saying about cutting that salary
because DeAndre Hunter was due like
24 25 mil all by himself and moving next now you got Caris LeVert
who was yet another expiring
contract only at 16 and you had George Niang
the Hawks were still over the salary cap after making
that trade so you had so you knew that more moves
were coming you just like you didn't want to see
DeAndre Hunter leave the Atlanta Hawks since 2019 bro we've
been waiting for a year like this from
DeAndre Hunter you know saying now take this with a grain
of salt okay all right we have been waiting
the same thing that i just said yeah
is this you know how they say the same things that make you
laugh make you cry yes we've been waiting since 2019
for DeAndre Hunter to have this type of year
and you know i'm saying
so grand opening grand closing he's gone i mean i don't like it but at the end of
the day you got to understand it like we've
been waiting this long for him to do something like
this and at the trade deadline supposedly
this can possibly be like the highest his his trade
value could have ever been right right i counter
that point with you possibly could have waited
until the end of the season
and drove up the price if just let's just imagine him getting that six
man of the year award with the Atlanta Hawks it's
almost like let's make a deal right right in the
off season the price can go up some
because i just got the six man of the year and i can possibly
you know put him in a trade that way
the hawks didn't want to do that they don't want to take
that risk they just said let's go ahead
and and cash in right now you know i said let's not even
take the chance of him possibly getting injured anytime
this year right possibly falling off
anytime this year so that's why it's almost like maximizing
on the moment that's what i feel like
the hawks did just trying to find some type of way
to uh to find some optimism in this trade because
do i like that the player is gone no i don't now if they're waiting
so long for him to perform like
this but that's also another reason why he possibly could have
been traded along with salary
yeah of course that that's that's first
and foremost it ain't got nothing to do with the
player it's the business side of things the business
so that's what i'm saying so my question
to you in that regard and i hope i didn't cut you off
or not but my my question then in that part is
because if it's the business side of things
and we gotta you know i i i've been doing my research
been looking up some stuff
and i remember earlier in the season they adjusted the salary not the
salary cap but the um luxury tax
and i believe that there were two or three levels to it correct
well yeah you got the luxury tax you got
the first apron second apron nobody wants to be in that
second apron that's kind of like denver that's kind
of like where denver hovers and um they're
a second they were second apron team
and they can't make a lot of moves they it's supposed to
try to make things more fair okay you know i'm saying league wise
that's really hawks set
themselves like how does the hawks how did the hawks
and their moves today help them or hurt them
in this regard well i mean as far
as if we're talking about just straight salary and cap and
everything like that they definitely helped
their cause all the way around because they're they were
over the luxury tax and then
when they made the trade for deandre hunter they were over the
luxury tax you know i'm saying then uh next thing you know
and this is a part of like the whole
business thing that we were talking about bro
because they they pretty much uh robbed peter
to pay paul okay oh you know what i'm saying right right
because with the deandre hunter thing
they did they then took those three second round picks
and flipped them with bogdan bogdanovich
and went and got terence man
and bones holland from the clippers wow okay now get into that
because we briefly talked about
that in pre-production yeah we do pre-production y'all
this is we're real deal you feel me
but in pre-production you were talking to me in regards
to this trade and it almost loosened up my brows you know uh
because you know you're scrunched up
and frustrated because of DeAndre Hunter leaving
but now you hear about this move in regards to
Bogey and and him going to the Clippers how does
did we what did what what happened did we did we
kind of make good on our deals how did this work
this this trade did make me feel a little better
um you know i said because i mean at the end
of the day we got rid of two players one who had
trouble staying healthy
and Bogey i mean yes i love Bob Dombrowski i do he was our sniper for many
seasons when we first got him uh from the Kings
when he was redirected from the Bucks coming to
Atlanta i was excited because i knew that we had a sniper
but our sniper has not been healthy our
sniper has not been able to get it going like that this season
so him making uh the 17 mil that it is
you flip that and you send it to the Clippers Clippers get a guy
who can spot up and shoot
and can you know i said get hot
and when he does we already know what Bogey does right he had the
nickname Bogey Buckets so it's just like
with that trade you get back a young guy in Terrence Mann
and in Bones Hyland Bones Hyland quick story about him he got traded
from the Denver Nuggets
to the Clippers because he wanted
a bigger role now maybe he'll get a bigger role in atlanta
same thing with terrence man
so do you see him do you see him being a factor now because that's
I think that's what most fans are looking for when we see trades.
We see Luka going to L.A.,
though he's not necessarily playing just yet.
He's still dealing with an injury.
We know that he can make an effect now.
Anthony Davis can make an effect now.
Who is going to or can make an effect now for the Atlanta Hawks?
Well, the thing about it is, coming into the season,
everyone had reservations about Dyson Daniels, correct?
Right, right.
Dyson Daniels, but this is the thing about it
is when I seen that trade,
I was like, oh, we finally have a pointer
to attack somebody that can attack that
and guard the best player and, you know what I'm saying,
also help Trey Young out on the offensive end, defensive end.
You know, that's what I seen from Dyson Daniels.
People were saying, worried about his offense.
I'm not going to lie.
I'm not tripping about that.
I understand.
But, you know what I'm saying,
look at how the pleasant surprise of Dyson Daniels.
I'm thinking they're trying to go back to the well on that and banking
that Terrence Mann could have a similar resilience to that,
coming in, getting more opportunities, more time.
Maybe he can come.
I mean, he's coming off the bench,
but he's still going to get time in Atlanta.
You know, that's what I'm saying.
He's still going to get time in Atlanta.
JJ is gone.
Dre is now gone.
That's 40 points per game that is off the team now for this season.
for this season correct so that so it the scoring gotta come
from somewhere and it can't be all on
trey and now you got trey young is the one guy
that you know that can put the ball in the basket
100 percent on the team second was deandre hunter for me
but now he's gone uh dyson daniels has been
a pleasant surprise being able to score like 19 points
the past few games yes but you still need
scoring george niang he's a three-point shooter he
at least can shoot the three hopefully you
He'll be able to get some buckets for Atlanta in that regard.
Khris LeVert, that's a wild card
because he's been called the diet version of SGA.
I'm just saying, that's a wild card, right?
At the end of the day, I don't expect him
to be on the Hawks next season.
Okay, all of this that the Atlanta Hawks have done,
including getting rid of Cody Zeller,
because we traded Cody Zeller to the Rockets, him,
and we gave the Rockets back their 2028 pick,
second round pick.
back just to take Cody Zeller and get us
and get him off our team when we did that,
that completed everything for the Atlanta Hawks,
because we were back under the luxury tax and
right now the Atlanta Hawks are plus three mil under
the you know I'm saying uh under the luxury
tax okay oh and and that and that is how I think that is what most fans
because again I came from
the barbershop just want to make sure
y'all see it again normally I'm in a hat tighten up tighten up you feel me
but that's what most of the guys wanted to know just
to give you an overview um you know because
we talk sports in the shop uh,
and and I'm fortunate that my brother is there so I can
definitely talk sports with him
and the thing is most fans are frustrated not just with the Hawks,
it's with the entire Atlanta landscape as far
as sports is concerned you know the Falcons definitely
made some shady moves you know before the season
and after the season so I know the the temperature
for Atlanta though it is a unseasonably warm day,
it's pretty messed up it's pretty cold right now,
and so go ahead my apologies no I just said no I
was just saying you're absolutely right about that
and um here's a tidbit for our Hawks fans too man
um think about this too and too Walter think
about this uh first of all Clint Capela I'm pretty sure
is not going to have back spasms for
too much longer that's the next thing he's still
on the team he's still on the team with his
expiring contract right Caris LeVert
that's another expiring contract Larry Nance then you
also have um Bones Hyland you
also have David Roddy Garrison Matthews Dominic Barlow who's on
a two-way Keenan Wallace
who's on a two-way all these guys that i just named are free agents in
2025 that's what seven six
or seven guys eight people i'm saying that's a lot of guys that's
what i'm saying like there's so many guys
who are going to be free agents at the end of the year
so with that being said i'm
not necessarily worried about what we're going to do the rest
of this year even though the east is weak
and we're only three games out of the sixth spot
other teams you know so they're making kind of moves
and stuff like that we'll see what happens
um but i'm more interested to see what the hawks
do in the in the offseason that's what i really
go into is like because it sounds as if you know how
a tsunami a tsunami happens you know the water
is you know if it pushes back before it's a big wave of water
and so could we be setting our could
Could Landry Fields be setting the Hawks up for a major,
major deal in the offseason prior to next season?
Because quite frankly,
most of the fans are questioning Trae Young is, hey, man, look,
we won't be mad if you decide we would hate to see you leave.
But at this point, something's got to give.
And I do. And if it sounds like I'm in my soapbox,
I kind of am, because you see certain things happen for others.
air quotes or ergo uh uh Luca Dončić he's had over three
or four superstars on his team uh Jalen
Brunson, Kristaps Porzingis um Jason Kidd as a coach
and Kyrie Irving you dig what i'm saying
and yet that still isn't enough
for him yet he you know he goes elsewhere i mean unbeknownst to him
but my point is is that i didn't i don't think
that Atlanta has done enough but with your
explanation could this be a situation where we might be able to get
or land a big fish or even
if there's a big fish available you know Anthony Davis i don't know
if he's gonna stay in uh uh
in Dallas i'm not sure after this season
so do you see that possibly happening well um the thing
about it is i feel like you kind of just got
a side eye everything right now right you still
just the moves still have to be made you can have all this salary
and still not able to sign
guys that you want to sign you know people still have
to agree money talks though you know so you
know we'll have to see what goes on with that but my thing
is at least you give yourself an
opportunity like that's where you got to like try
to find some solace in this whole trade scenario
trade things and everything
but you think about it our bench got a little deeper i mean Kyrie's
LaVert, like I said, he's a wild card. George Niang, he can shoot
the three, he plays the four. JJ's gone
for the year. You need somebody at least in that aspect
who can play the four and shoot. Small, I have
yet to hear anybody above seven feet. We
are small, bro. We don't have not a soul above seven feet, okay
the closest guy that is, uh
that was about seven feet. Well, I mean, Mo Bamba just went, just got shipped
back down to College Park. He was like the tallest guy on the team
and you know, I said like I think
him and Clint Capela was right at 6'11". Mo Bamba may have
been seven foot, okay. You know what I'm saying
but regardless, you still have Clint Capela. You
still have Larry Nance, you still have Darnell
Barlow who's still with the team right now
um, they didn't send him back down to College Park
you know, so and you still have Double
O. So I mean, you have somewhat of a front court. Clint
expiring contract, don't expect him
to be back again. Caris LeVert, another expiring contract
don't expect to be back, but guys who will be with the team
who you can surround around
Trae Young is a role player like George Niang
is a role player like Terrence Mann, but the fact that
we have Dyson Daniels, Terrence Mann, and Zachary Richache,
who is still, you know, evolving on the team.
Defensively, I feel like we got better that way,
especially, you know, on the perimeter, too,
because Terrence Mann is a good perimeter defender as well.
Again, I'm hoping that more offensive opportunities will blossom
for Terrence Mann as one time against the Utah Jazz,
I believe, like it was game six or something like that.
he had 39 points seven made threes
so if that can come to Atlanta and at least I ain't saying
it's gonna be 39 points all the time right right right right
if he can give me 15 a game
hey you know I'm saying if you know
if he can come off the bench and be something
for the second unit then hey you know
so expect to see Dyson Daniels and Terrence Mann on the floor
together because when in the non-Trey Young minutes Dyson Daniels
is the point guard a lot
of times ladies and gentlemen oh go ahead
my apologies no I was about saying you'll have
Terrence Mann is the number two you can possibly
still have Rich Shae out there too yep you know
so I mean Quinn is going to have to play with the lineup
a little bit more luckily we're not in the
West if we was in the West I say the season
is completely shot you might as well go ahead and
get ready for the offseason to see what we can do but it's crazy
because again we're only three
games out yeah and let's see if we can you know I'm saying get
into the playoffs I don't think
the Bulls are going to leapfrog us I don't think
so because they made I don't believe that yeah I
don't and they made they got rid of Zach Levine
and he was a dominant scorer for them over
there but we'll see what happens I will say
to that and i think i think fans should definitely pay attention
to that because i spoke about it in a video earlier
with Zach Levine going to the Sacramento
Kings from the Bulls yes like you said you don't expect
the Bulls to leapfrog as a matter of fact
they've been a thorn in our side for most part
of the early early part of this season but with
Zach Levine going there now
with the Kings they obviously they still want to win and if they can
win we own the 12th pick uh we own their 12th unprotected pick
so they continue to do well
they make the playoffs heck they can even make
the play in with the 11 with the 11 seed but I
know that if they do that we get the pick from them
so it still can work out for the Atlanta
Hawks in some degree
but it's just I will say it's quite jarring to see DeAndre Hunter leave
in that regard because it's like man like he
we waited like you said we waited six years
to see him do this only the first time we saw I was in Virginia
but then after that it just was
like it was nothing it was mum's the word almost
but that's just what we are make you laugh make
you cry we've been waiting this long for Dre
to ball like this but we've been waiting this long
for Dre to ball like this ladies
and gentlemen this is Atlanta Hawks Digest again my name is
Walter Pollard that is Chris Tippmore get used
to our faces uh thank you thank you for oh wait
oh wait wait i love this do you have the uh
do you have the eye you got the oh yeah we got to
get a hawks the eye test we're gonna figure it
out we said we watching you we are what landry
fields we're watching you buddy chris is watching you for sure
but we're definitely gonna be paying
attention yeah listen we appreciate you guys
definitely keep checking out the channel um
i definitely i do believe we're at like
but 603 604 views yeah man we over the 600 mark baby baby
Yes, sir.
Yes, sir.
Get us a round of applause for that.
So, major shouts out to all of you guys that have been watching.
But, hey, with that being said,
after the All-Star break is the rest of the season.
And we'll see how things play out.
In my honest opinion, they go no lower than eight.
They go no lower than eight.
I think they go no lower.
Yeah.
I think the worst case scenario
is they stay right where they are in the ninth seed.
Again, that's the bull some kind of way, catch fire and leapfrog us.
But I still can see us being in the play-in, worst-case scenario.
Like I said, the East is weak.
There's still a long season left,
but I still believe we win more games.
I've been seeing people talking about, oh,
the Hawks don't win more than 30 games now.
And I'm just like, they fight, though.
They're scrappy.
Like that.
Yeah.
It is what it is.
Ladies and gentlemen, Walter Pollard, Chris Moore, Chris Tip Moore.
this is Atlanta Hawks
Digest
and we will see you guys
later
peace
