Calgary Flames trade rumors are intensifying
as a new face has been added to the mix on the
trade block for the Flames, and that man is Mr. Joel Farabee.
Plus, we have the latest on the
ongoing trade rumors involving Connor Zary and Zach Whitecloud.
We're going to get to all that
more in this video, but first I want to welcome you
to Flames Digest. I'm Mark Griffith. If you're
new around here and you love the Flames,
make sure you subscribe so you can stay up to date on all
the latest news, updates, reports,
and rumors revolving around your Calgary Flames. We would
love to welcome you to the flames digest family
and let's get into the latest trade rumors here
as you know you kind of heard just heard it in the intro
but an interesting name actually just
popped up for the flames in trade talks
and it kind of stems from the athletic but other people
were talking about it as well most notably on twitter uh
but if we do look at the article from
the athletic first what they wrote is one under
the radar trade candidate from every nhl team for
the 2026-27 season and we already know Connor Zary has
been involved in trade talks for a long
time now and with him obviously you know going through
the waiver process now playing with the
Wranglers his name is still very relevant
in the trade rumor mill Zach Whitecloud same thing just
because he's probably Calgary's biggest trade asset
or at least realistic trade asset I should
say you know we've heard a little bit
of Frost maybe some other players in there but the under
the radar one that came out is Joel Farabee
and this was written by our old writer Julian McKenzie
who obviously is no longer writing for the Flames
but still does a little bit so he wrote technically
everyone who isn't under 24 should
be a trade candidate for the Flames which is just true
that's the Craig Conroy era for you he says
but if Farabee continues to rack up points he could
fetch a return at the deadline
and Joel Farabee has arguably been the best player for the Flames
this season which is pretty crazy
so if we get into some of his stats here is it luck is it for
real with what he's been going on this is in terms
of goals i would say you know no goals shooting
percentages at zero does that mean that his trade value
is lower right now I mean it might I don't
think anyone would be acquiring Fairbey to score goals
and I I don't imagine anyone would you know
necessarily expect him to be a big goal scorer
if they were to trade for him as of right now maybe
wait for him to get a few more goals
and the trade value goes up if not we know that he's kind of a
you know jack of all trades he's a Swiss Army knife
but more of a playmaker than obviously a
play finisher I should say but the timing of this report is interesting
because there it might start
a bit of a Fairbey trade watch here
so Mike Gold writer for Flames Nation uh he writes Mike Gold
or sorry he says places Fairbey in the maybe next year tier
so he does not have Fairbey and being
traded this year but maybe next year
which is definitely a possibility as well but if you don't
trade him this year wait until next year does he become part
of the core for the Flames want to
keep him around I mean he's already part of the leadership group
so it's you know wouldn't be a
bad idea to keep around either uh
his extension eligibility eligibility begins next summer as well
and there's no verified report of an imminent deal
so no one you know is saying he's getting
traded right away which I mean kind
of goes without saying um his season so far as you can
see a few green stats in here he's been okay on the power play
and like I said he's got some assists
again no goals which isn't exactly you know fantastic
but he's not expected to be a huge
goal scorer despite him actually doing okay last year
and we know he goes through these crazy long
dry spells um didn't he do that as soon as he became a Flame
and then last year for a long time
as well but you know the statistics aren't going
to be amazing for any Flames especially when you
get into that kind of you know plus minus category
of yeah his value isn't exactly going to increase
unless the Flames for some reason go on a crazy run
which wouldn't exactly be too unexpected but
if we take a look at his contract
as well it's very affordable it's just five million dollars
per year so I mean no that's not the cheapest contract in the league
but most teams would be
able to bring that on if they wanted Fairbee.
And who knows what the Flames do in a trade that
could revolve around Fairbee.
You take a contract back or you retain some money. I know that's not
exactly what we want to do, but it definitely is an option.
So is it kind of a sell low question
right now? Is it, would it be selling low?
So listen to offers without shopping a drought
is totally fine. Weigh his role beside Calgary's young forwards.
I think that increases the value
that would mean selling a little bit higher than selling super low.
And then a strong offer can
still change the decision of course Craig Conroy
is going to listen to any offers there are for any
of his players and if it knocks his socks off
then he's absolutely going to go for it but that's
what's going on with Fairbee if we move over
to White Cloud now it's interesting one person
commented recently I think this was about
a week ago said trade White Cloud now because he's not
slotted correctly and his value is decreasing
as the Flames goals against goes ballistic so
if we're up to this user here definitely would
trade him now more than waiting and then his
value might go a little bit lower.
So David Pagnotta, he said, I believe there have been at
least exploratory increase. So definitely teams reaching out.
We heard the big reports of, you
know, Toronto has been interested.
They need a replacement for Tanev because he's always injured.
You know, we can trade with the Flames now
that Tree Living's no longer there and, you know,
and beyond essentially. So beyond the points,
you know, White Cloud, his, again, his statistics,
his offensive production it's
not gonna knock someone else's socks off um but he does throw
the body around quite a bit of course he blocks shots he's 47th
in the NHL right now um plays a
lot of minutes as well and unfortunately he does
have more giveaways than takeaways that's just
because who the heck else has the the puck
on their stick for this team but we know that his
value is higher than just you know the statistics it's the leadership
and it's what he brings to
this young core being the leader there helping develop them
and obviously being just a great
human in general absolutely love the guy white cloud
as well extremely affordable contract at
just 2.75 mil so in any trade
that involved white cloud other than maybe with the Leafs with their
cap issues you know we probably wouldn't have to retain
and if need be if it were to a team in a
cap crunch then you can always take a contract back of course
which i tried to make a mock trade
here you know on digest sports.com again please go feel free
to check it out there is a trade
generator on there a mock trade machine I tried
to make one that worked that involved the first
round pick it just wasn't happening with the Leafs
but according to the generator on digest
sports.com they think a second
and third round pick from Toronto to Calgary for just Zach
Whitecloud there's no retention
or anything would be a fair trade again we'd have to make the cap
work somehow but that could absolutely work
and I don't know I'd like to get a first back for
Whitecloud, do I think that's all that realistic? Not necessarily
but getting a couple picks I mean
that could definitely work so it comes
to Calgary's decision honestly on Whitecloud if it were to be
a trade with Toronto Toronto must solve
the cap before a deal works that's their problem not
necessarily ours if we get loads more back
for solving that problem for them then I'm okay with
that too the proposed picks are a discussion price
so that mock there it's it's just you know for
talks it's not necessarily yes that would
be fair yes the Flames should do that again just a
discussion point but keeping a veteran partner
also has value so keeping you know Whitecloud
around especially if he ever gets to play
with Perreault again i think that could be very beneficial
for Perreault and for the team in general
and probably for Whitecloud but again no rush to
trade Whitecloud right now now the last guy
of course is Connor Zary decided to throw his stats
in despite a very small sample size
and just two games played has the one point as we know his
stats aren't exactly going to be fantastic
because he hasn't played all that much but he still
remains you know in the trade rumor mill Elliot
Friedman says i think they've discussed taking a
contract back so as just you know talked about
with Whitecloud maybe you bring a contract back
in for Zary they definitely would be down
to do that because in no way are they ever going to
retain on a Zary contract
for a trade he only again has 3.77 mil pretty affordable for another
team to pick up but again for a team that might
be more of a cap crunch we'd be willing to take
a contract back for sure but I don't even know
if anything's going to happen with the Connor Zarić
situation at this point again love
that the Y's always get caught up uh Connor Zarić um here's the
mock trade I could come up with again Vancouver has
been the main team talked about that was more
so still when Otto Rossi was a member of them
and now he's on the Leafs so maybe he could have could
have just done a Flames and Leafs trade for this one
but not even a third round pick for Zeri seemed
fair to the generator at digestsports.com they went
with a fourth round pick so would I do this
I don't know I'd try to do something a little bit better
and it's not like a Vancouver fourth round
pick is going to be all that good
so I don't know how I feel about this one to be honest Vancouver
unlike Toronto can definitely afford the whole contract
so I think that might be part of the
reason why we couldn't get anything higher
but there wouldn't be any extracurriculars in terms
of money or finances for this one if we take a look
at where he would fit into the Canucks lineup
it seems as though he could maybe
be their third line center I know that's really just me trying to
increase Zarić's value here do I think he's actually
a third line center not necessarily
um could absolutely be one
and maybe that's the way you pitch it to Vancouver is he can solve some
of your you know center problems
and be fantastic despite him not being able to do ours but maybe
you pitch it that way to Vancouver
and try to get at least a third round pick back so sell or does
he have rebuild value sell
or keep, there's no retention in this proposal, Vancouver buys a
rebound opportunity, that's the whole point trying
to get very sloppy seconds here and then Calgary
can keep developing in the AHL if need be.
Does he have that rebuild value? Could he be part of
the team for the future? Kind of seems like they're ready
to sever ties on both ends but
you know there's there's definitely still
a discussion to be had about trading Zeri and
the rest of these guys.
Now let's get into tonight's game as the Flames are back home
this time against the defending Stanley Cup champions.
We're hosting the Hurricanes tonight
at 6 p.m. at the Dome. It's crazy how you know
the more games we have at home the less there are
in the dome remaining in its history
but uh should be a fun one no matter what we might get smoked
because obviously Carolina's still really good
but the projected lines or at least this is what
the lines were at practice yesterday at the time
of recording I have no idea what the lines are
going to be so don't think that this will for sure be the lines
but it's probably a good indication
and they are wild if we take a look at the forward lines first
so Farabee on the top line with
Backlund and Coronado, nuts Sunyev with Frost
and Sharky as your second line, Gridden Pospisil and
Strom I mean they kind of remain together
and then Slip, sorry, Sipulkova, one of Castagna or Othman
and Klapka as the fourth line so none of Coronado, Frost
and Gridden together and then the D pairings
is where it gets a little bit more exciting, Ball remains with Nemec
but Middleton now put with
Whitecloud and Kuznetsov with Parekh could
this just be an audition for the future of having
Koozie and Parekh together, I I mean I like that Huska
is changing things around in the D-core here
but not putting Parekh with Whitecloud is still quite
the suggestion here or quite the idea I know
it would mean that someone else has to play
on their offside not just Perek but it's really
interesting Hanley as your seventh
and then Wolf was looking like he'd be the starter I'm not too
sure if that's going to be the case um as we do head into tonight
but all indications so far are
saying that Wolf would be now if we get
into the standings I just wanted to show how hot Carolina
is they're on a seven game winning streak they're seven one
and one the top record in the Eastern
Conference so not only are they the defending Cup champions
but they're the hottest team in the league
so this is going to be a tough one for who
is essentially the worst team in the league in the
Calgary Flames even Philly there as you can see got
a win last night LA still doesn't have one
though so we have that over them
and then the key to the game for me will be those special teams
again so as we saw in the last game
and just throughout this whole season is that the Flames
are actually doing okay five on five
but when it comes to the penalty kill and power play they get
out played like crazy they get out shot like crazy uh both kind
of middle of the pack in terms of our
power play percentage and penalty kill I know it's still early
in the year but hopefully if the
special teams are good
then the Flames can be somewhat a little bit better now let's get into
the comment of the day to wrap up this video
as we love to do here on the channel comes from
yesterday's video of course
and this was a great one here from Deschapelles saying Flames cannot
finish they have the worst shooting percentage
in the league how is that possible how is it not
Philly uh they say they're getting like two
or more breakaways a game and they haven't scored
on a single one their power play percentage
is also middle of the pack so it's really just how
bad they are at finishing
on their generated scoring chances throughout an entire game and
that's what it comes down to that's what yesterday's whole video
was about was us being able to create
chances and not finishing and it's
so true if the flames could finish they'd be doing much better
but they're not and maybe that's okay in a rebuild tank year
but um yeah it's been a little
bit frustrating to watch that they're able
to generate these chances they just cannot put the
puck in the net thank you so much for watching

you saw here today and have a wonderful rest of your day
