AI GeneratedThis news broadcast provides a comprehensive update on Los Angeles local events, featuring severe weather warnings for high fire danger, a major apartment fire in East Hollywood, and the Dodgers' struggle in the NLCS. It also offers expert holiday travel advice, traffic updates, and entertainment highlights including a haunted attraction in Buena Park and the Ghostbusters franchise.
I will say it's truly a different experience sitting, like,
up high here in, like, this bleacher section versus sitting down below.
Oh, absolutely.
Have you ever sat up high?
Like, even the vibe is, like, is different.
Okay.
It is.
How about in the middle?
Like, I've sat in the middle.
Well, yeah.
I feel like anybody who's, like, really high, like, half those people
are, like, they're not paying as much attention to the game.
Like, there's just a lot of stuff going on.
Right.
Okay.
There's a lot of stuff going on.
Even the fan vibe, yeah.
Yeah.
I think I sat, let me see,
So, our stage manager,
it was me, Tony McEwing.
I think we sat like right here.
They were really great seats.
They were not too up,
they were not too down.
It was just a great view,
just a great view, great company.
But the vibe is different up high.
Like it's just-
I haven't tried it.
Is there more clownery going on?
It's like a party up high.
Yeah.
Okay, well today we definitely
need the party going on.
We need the fan party.
I heard the ticket prices kind of
went down a little bit.
So, yeah. So that's exciting.
Maybe you can get some last minute tickets,
get off work a little early and head to the game.
We just have to contend with the winds and the heat today.
The winds definitely coming out of that northeasterly direction.
We talked about that yesterday.
It's going to intensify and strengthen and it will, of course,
in turn, not just heat us up, but increase fire danger.
Sixty nine in Granada Hills right now.
Sixty one downtown L.A., 77 in Ontario.
It was cool when I headed out early this morning,
but right now it's milding.
Is that a word?
Milding up.
It's warming up a little bit.
87 in the low desert, 57 up in the mountains.
And we do have, again, all of the advisories, wind advisories.
We've got the red flag warnings for those strong winds combined
with the heat and dry conditions.
So that all translates to really high fire danger.
89 in downtown L.A.
That's well above average.
Upper 80s along the coast as well.
I'll show you the extended outlook coming up in just a few moments.
We'll talk more about the winds.
But let's go up to Stu in SkyFox.
Stu, I hear you have a new do.
So I'm going to look a little bit later.
And hopefully we can see you a little bit later as well.
Yeah, it looks good, I heard.
It looks good.
Well, I appreciate that, Maria.
Thank you so much.
Talking about my braids.
Anyway, let's talk about some traffic.
We're looking at that 55.
Orange is where we started.
You're using the end of the lens because I saw some traffic down there.
Those taillights, those are going to be the southbound 55.
Now, up by Orange, it's actually moving along pretty well.
But as you make your way closer, closer, closer to that 5 down there,
you can see the brake and those brakes.
Keep that in mind if that's your drive.
If northbound on that 55 is your ride, wide open, moving well.
Sending it back to you all in the studio.
Good morning.
All right, Stu, good morning to you.
We have some breaking news right now.
More than 100 L.A. City firefighters have been battling a fire
at an East Hollywood apartment building.
Gigi Garcia, live there at the scene.
It's still a very active scene there, Gigi.
Yes, and a matter of fact, just two minutes ago,
we saw a team of arson investigators with the Los
Angeles City Fire Department arrive here on East Kingsley.
We're between Melrose and Maplewood in
East Hollywood, as you mentioned.
And this is the building where early this morning, the fire
broke out in the basement and quickly spread sadly to the first,
second and third floor.
not a total loss, I'm told.
They're still going to be assessing it. But thankfully,
it appears everybody got out
with only one woman transported to the hospital
with minor injuries, we're told.
Another woman was rescued by the fire department
and they have her on a gurney just
in case she needs to be taken to the hospital.
Now take a look at the video,
the fire breaking out at about 4:20 this morning here on Kingsley.
This building extremely challenging for firefighters
because it's what they call a pre-1933.
That means it was built before 1933
and doesn't necessarily have the seismic retrofitting necessary,
which means it could collapse,
that floors could be quickly compromised at the fire.
There are really no fire doors, so the fire can quickly spread.
Again, the fire was in the basement.
When we arrived, a lot of the folks were still sheltering in place.
many who could though, got out on their own.
They grabbed their dogs, their cats.
We've seen a lot of pets, folks scrambling to get out.
This morning we spoke to Kyle Cook. He lives
on the third floor. He woke up,
realized there was no power and he could smell smoke. So he grabbed
his most valuable possession and got out.
You grab what you can. I ended up grabbing
my dad's painting which was you know
the most important thing to me um so it's just if you have
seconds to just realize what was going on and then i walk out into the
the garage and i had no idea it was it
was this here i've been hearing neighbors with
pets and it's been a really brutal brutal reality
this morning are pets still inside
it's unknown i've been hearing that when they went
to go grab them the pets wouldn't come out and
it's been a lot so i i don't know unfortunately there
is still a lot of unknown
That's right. A lot of unknowns.
Specifically, how did this fire start in the basement? Again,
LA City Fire has three arson investigators here.
They just arrived a few minutes ago,
and they're gonna try to determine the cause of the fire.
We did see a lot of people
with their pets, and the fire department just
completed yet another search of all three floors.
And they believe that everybody has gotten out safely and that all
Pets are out. That is the latest.
We're going to continue following the fire here on Kingsley,
not far from Melrose in East Hollywood.
I'm Gigi Grasset live. I'll send it back to you.
All right, Gigi. Thank you.
Well, the two-time defending World Series champion Dodgers
are now on the brink of elimination.
They sure are, sadly. The Brewers stunned the Dodgers
with a 6-2 win in Game 3 of the NLCS last night.
Mario Ramirez joins us now at Dodger Stadium with more.
We still, listen, we're not out yet, okay?
We're not out.
We have to stay alive.
Milwaukee is one win away from the pennant,
and the Dodgers are one loss away from the season being over.
Heartbreaking to think about, but as you said, Jen, we are still in it.
The Dodgers, the boys in blue, they are hoping to stay alive,
and we're watching the grounds crew.
They're out here a little earlier than they were yesterday,
getting things perfect,
getting every blade of grass mowed here before this critical game four.
So who wants it more? That's the big question, right?
Let's bring you back to yesterday's game, a sea of Dodger blue
fans packing the stands here, hoping to turn the series around.
On the very first pitch,
Milwaukee's Jack Centurio silenced the crowd with a solo home run.
The Dodgers, they finally answered in the sixth inning.
Will Smith driving in two runs with a double, giving L.A. a 2-1 lead.
But in the seventh, Jake Bowers with a two-run blast.
And Brewers back on top, 3-2.
And then back-to-back home runs that it was hard to watch.
It was like daggers to the heart.
Garrett Mitchell going deep, extending Milwaukee's lead to 4-2.
A devastating turn of events.
And just like that, all the momentum back with Milwaukee.
The Brewers weren't finished.
They tacked on two more in the final score, six to two.
For Dodgers fans, the disappointment written all over their faces.
Disappointed today, right?
The Dodgers should have done better.
They should have been more into the game.
I say we take it in Game Seven.
You're optimistic.
I'm very optimistic.
I've seen this before.
We've seen the Dodgers down.
They come back and smoked them.
That's usually how it goes.
Just have faith.
It's going to happen.
We're still going to take it.
I still think so.
And what are you basing that on?
Faith. Sure.
Joshua McGill.
A tough night for Dodgers fans.
They watched their team let a late lead slip away.
Brewers were celebrating.
The Dodgers left searching for answers.
Even Mookie Betts visibly frustrated.
And now the boys in blue have no room for error.
Do or die tonight.
Milwaukee leads the best of seven series, three games to none.
And back out here live, you can see they've got nine titles.
And there's room for 2026.
The dream is not dead yet.
So here's what fans need to know.
Game four is set for 5 o'clock,
an hour earlier than what it was originally scheduled.
Tyler Glass now is starting pitcher.
So, you guys, we are not out yet.
We still have to stay alive and then win the next four games
to take the NLCS and head to the World Series.
It's been done before.
Dave Roberts knows that himself.
He was part of the 2004 Boston Red Sox when that team did it.
And we can do it again, right?
I know just, you know, when things took a turn at the stadium
yesterday, the energy in the crowd just kind of evaporated.
But tickets are now more affordable for tonight's game.
So show up. Fans, give it everything you've got.
Maintain that energy. And hopefully we can.
Hopefully we can come away with a win tonight.
You guys, tickets around $80.
So more affordable if you've ever wanted to come to a postseason game.
Now's the chance.
We were talking to one of the officials earlier.
He said they need as many people in here as they can get.
That's right. Because it's the energy.
That's what really drives the boys in blue.
That's right.
By the way, I like your hat.
Did that come pre-bent?
Did the brim come pre-bent?
We're having a debate.
Pre-bent?
Your hat.
No, I bent it myself.
They all come like this.
They do not all come like that.
She said, I like the kind that are straight.
And I'm like, they're all that way.
You've got to bend it.
Because there are some ball caps where
you buy them with a flat brim hat.
That's a whole thing.
And it will not bend.
The ones I've bought, they're all straight.
And you decide whether or not you want to bend them.
How many hats do you own?
I have so many hats, actually.
You'd be surprised.
Thank you, executive producer Sasha, for validating me.
Yes, you have the ones that you bend and the ones that stay flat.
all right thank you mario they're not all every
hat every hat that i've had you'd have you'd have
to do this if you want it curved i understand you what kind
of hats are you buying anyway
they're all straight they're not all straight okay i agree
with that you think you can handle
a good scare this halloween, the 17th Door
in Buena Park is ready to put you to the test, sure
is now in its 13th year, lucky number 13
this extreme haunted maze features 17 terrifying
rooms twisted experiments and scares
so intense yeah you have to sign a waiver before you enter
so naturally we decided let's do it, you
are fearless, this is how it all starts, you sign
the waiver, what's this for? You have now earned a chance
at freedom, repeat after me: I swear to be fearless
until i
die, do you want
to leave me? yes
i don't want
to be here
anymore
It's been too long. I can't do it anymore.
Follow me. Let's go.
Oh, my God.
I'm looking for
the openings
and the gaps
because that's
where the hands
can come from.
That
was
the
worst
part
for
me.
Tickets for the 17th Door Haunt Experience run through November 1st.
This is in Buena Park at the Downtown Mall.
For more information, there's the information, the17thdoor.com.
So much fun.
if you really like being scared like
that, that visceral like heart pumping, yeah you're exhausted
after you know, i was gonna ask you about
that because that wind tunnel where you guys were
like falling down and getting, she's like she
was like a feather without, there's no
i know that i could not sustain myself
in a hurricane like that, absolutely, i mean tip
jet engine yeah tip if you want to go i mean the physicality of it
because i was like literally
like started to sweat and there's parts where
you're literally like almost like crawling
running on all fours and
running and screaming.
I almost lost my voice.
And that's just a fraction of
what they have.
They have rooms where there's
live insects, cockroaches, and
spiders, and snakes.
And they have another one where
the room fills up with balls and
you feel like you're drowning.
Yeah, so it plays off of all of
the fears that you've got.
It lasts a long time.
It does.
It's not like 10 minutes and
you're done.
I mean, I think it's like 35 to
45 minutes to get through all.
So you get your money's worth.
These are real Hollywood experts, technicians, staging people.
So when you walk in, it looks pretty.
It looks like a movie set.
Yeah.
It's very cool.
I would highly, highly recommend it if you like those haunted mazes.
Okay.
I'll think about it.
The engineering and stuff that goes behind it, too.
And, like, how do they think of this stuff?
Yeah.
Is there a minimum age?
Like, you got to be, like, 10, maybe.
I think there is.
Yeah.
I think there would have to be.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's scary, for sure.
Yeah.
Okay.
Also, the actors.
really, really, really, really,
really get into it.
Yeah, they do.
They're awesome.
What a great experience.
Gus would like it.
I'll ask him.
Does he like the haunted mazes
like that?
We went to David Arvizu
and Christine's.
That was really impressive.
Yeah, what they do is amazing.
What they do,
our crew here at their home,
that's kind of a mini version
of that, and he enjoyed it.
But this, like the actors,
so most haunted mazes,
they're not allowed to touch you.
But here they can.
They can grab you, yeah.
I heard.
I think someone's hair was cut.
They do that too.
Yeah.
You guys, that looked like fun.
Did you go and have a cocktail after?
I needed one.
Okay, so this is kind of scary.
Not quite as scary as the 17th floor, but this is the night.
Tonight's the night.
We got to do it.
We got to do it.
Our Dodgers, this is win or go home, right?
So we're going to talk about the heat that's going
to be still going to be around during the game.
At the start of the game, 508 is the pitch, around 86 degrees.
Those winds still on the lighter side in the stadium,
but outside should be picking up.
Right now, we're actually looking at some gustier winds near Sandburg.
Some of the usual wind-prone areas below the canyons
and Passes are seeing and feeling those stronger wind gusts.
20-mile-per-hour winds right now in Ontario,
22 in Sandburg, elsewhere 5 to 10 miles per hour.
But we do have those red flag warnings in effect.
We've got an area of high pressure
that is now in control of our weather.
these winds up and down the California coast.
Remember when we have a red flag warning,
we do have those parking restrictions in place.
So you really wanna watch where you park.
Firefighters need that,
fire engines need that in case a fire does spark up. Please be careful
with those fire ignition sources,
particularly over the next several days. But we're talking
about winds 25 to 40 miles per hour.
Isolated wind gusts could get up to 60 plus, even 70 miles an
hour, especially down through parts of Ventura County,
LA County mountains below those mountains
and passes. We also have, by the way,
this beach hazard statement that's still in place. We're
still getting those southerly swells,
the high tide nearing six, six and a half feet with those
surf heights three to five plus feet.
88 today in Inglewood, so we're definitely warming it up.
We're going to be back to more like summer-like temperatures
in the afternoon. 91 in Indio,
86 in Bakersfield,
91 if you're headed up north to Fresno and Sacramento, rather.
just a quick peek at the seven-day forecast 88 today
for the coast 90s tomorrow back down to
70s by early next week and that chance for rain
which we are really eagerly awaiting let's go
back up to SkyFox let's get another update
on our traffic conditions hey stew what's
going on hey good morning maria good morning
everybody SkyFox traffic brought to us by my
Home Sold made our way back out towards Hollywood
those headlights yeah that's not a parking lot
That's the 101, and there's no crashes, just super high volume.
What a busy Thursday.
Take a look at that.
Making your way out of Hollywood,
down into the Echo Park area, over to the 110.
Super slow and go.
If you're headed northbound, well, you're starting out slow,
but at least I can tell you,
you got some go by the time you get to Hollywood.
Look at that.
Wide open, moving well.
It seems like Vermont seems to be the spot.
Everything changes.
Northbound, it opens up and gets great.
Southbound, you're hitting the brakes.
let's take a look at some traffic hotspots hello i'm Majorin Hernandez
with myhomesold.com and we
want to buy your house cash we save you money
with no commissions no fees no repairs for free
no obligation as is cash offer go
to myhomesold.com all right now to something that combines
two of our favorite things right the LA Dodgers
and tasty treats yeah special place in Silmar
celebrating our run at this three-peat
in a very creative way we're talking with Jennifer Renteria
at ConaSucar Cafe in Silmar good morning good morning how
are you guys great good we still
have hope yeah we do so we're gonna bring home
a win tonight don't we yes stay strong everybody
yeah so so your treats have always kind of helped bring
the Dodgers some luck right uh show us what
you got this morning
so we have our Dodger blue conchas right here we have our regular ones
as well as what we're known for which
is the giant dodger blue concha we also have mr yoshi
and miss hello kitty on our latte art as well
and we have our giant cafe de olla so so that the giant
wow look at that you don't mess around there yeah
who normally gets the go big or go home yeah
But that's right, go big or go home.
Who normally gets the grande concha?
Like, does that go to the office or what?
Honestly, everybody loves them.
So you can take them to the office.
Some people get them instead of birthday cakes.
I would definitely want one instead of a birthday cake.
Yeah.
And it can go to the house for the week.
So, yeah.
Well, because they're beautiful.
I mean, they're just beautiful to look at.
So for anybody who's not familiar with the concha,
tell us what goes into it, how much love?
So much love. It comes from our personal
local baker and they're delivered fresh every day.
So we make sure that everybody gets a warm,
fresh treat upon arrival to start their day.
So tell us about Con Azucar, your cafe
and how it came about.
So our founders are a group of friends that love coffee and they're
They're actually from Mexico.
So they came together and combined, of course, everybody's two
favorite things, conchas and coffee, and created Con Azucar.
So they started up north, and they're currently expanding.
We're located here on Foothill Boulevard.
We have yummy treats.
So not just conchas.
We have a ton of pan dulce and specialty drinks,
pardon me, all Mexico-inspired.
So we have dulce de leche.
we make our horchata in-house
that we make horchata lattes with
as well. Those are probably our
top sellers right there.
What time of day are you
guys usually the most busy? I would imagine the
morning, right? Morning
and actually now that it's getting a little
cooler out in the evening, everybody loves their
warm cafe de olla at night.
It's going to be either early morning or
late night before closing. Really quickly,
I know because the big seller
there is that giant concha.
Is there like every year do they try to,
can they make it bigger than that?
Or how large is that in comparison to, let's say,
I know, have you seen conchas that large anywhere else?
Honestly, I haven't.
I didn't even know that they could make them
this big before I started working
here.
So you'll see in the front we have like our average size concha.
So if you go anywhere to get pan dulce, that's what you're looking at.
And then this is a comparison.
So it almost takes over a good amount of the table.
I mean, even the average size is pretty big.
I won't lie.
Lots of love.
Thank you so much, Jennifer.
Thank you so much.
Yes.
We think you're right.
Thank you, guys.
Thank you.
We think you're right.
Go big or go home.
So let's go Dodgers, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Take a short break and we'll be right back.
Welcome
to Good
Day LA.
It's 730 this Thursday.
So did we resolve our debate?
Our baseball cap debate?
Right.
Absolutely.
I was right and you were wrong.
we took a poll in the newsroom
and everybody seems to be in agreement
there are two different types of
rims
you have the flat brim
and then you have the one that has the curve to it
but the vast majority of hats
are straight
doesn't matter they're both there so it's ok
it's like when I was a kid
you used to put your hat underneath the sofa
he just can't let it go
he cannot stand it
what he says is not correct
I know, I get it.
Yeah, you can't twist the truth, Bob.
This is Bobbie.
You're a journalist.
Good morning.
Listen, all we have to do is wear our blue,
and I've got every shade on just to
make sure we're covered for tonight.
We do have some great weather on tap as far as the temperatures
and the sunshine today,
but the winds are definitely gonna kick
in this afternoon, so that's gonna heighten fire
danger.
So just be extra careful, please, with any fire ignition sources.
So just be aware, be vigilant about if you see something,
make sure you report it.
And, of course, just take care if you've got
those high-profile vehicles driving in those wind-prone areas.
We have some warmer temperatures expected today,
and higher risk for heat exhaustion
also as we look at some temperatures back up to the 90s in many areas.
Yesterday, we did warm up to 83 degrees in downtown L.A.,
and we did get some rain this month,
by the way, 9 100th of an inch of rain.
And perhaps by next week,
we will look for another opportunity for some measurable rain for us.
Downtown L.A. today jumping up to 89,
which is 10 degrees above the average.
Our sunset time is at 6:19.
Here are the highs.
This is why the heat advisory is in effect.
91 in Pasadena, 90 in Burbank, 92 in Woodland Hills, 92 in Santa Ana.
And, yes, those winds really strong later today into tomorrow.
I'll get to those numbers in just a few moments.
In the meantime, I'll send it back to you, too.
All right, Maria, thank you.
Getting home for the holidays could take
a bigger bite of your gift budget this year.
Sure could, and what you book now could make all
the difference come November and December.
Holiday flights are already bringing some sticker shock.
Hopper puts average domestic round-trip fares
at about $400 for Thanksgiving and $450 for Christmas.
This is the highest prices we've seen in a decade.
Add to that the high fuel costs
and the potential for El Nino weather delays.
There's plenty to plan around
and you really have to plan around all these things and joining
us now to help answer some of those questions.
The Points Guy, director of content and travel expert Eric Rosen.
It's kind of like we're facing some landmines here and we travel.
It's really tough for travelers right now.
Higher prices, uncertainty around the weather, especially with El Nino.
already seen it wreak havoc on certain destinations in the Pacific,
including the west coast of
Mexico this past week.
So travelers have a lot to keep in mind, obviously.
They said $400 there, and that to me sounds on the cheaper side.
I mean, I had a friend that just took a flight
and she's not even going outside of the country
and it was $900.
Isn't that the truth these days, right?
$400 seems cheap.
What does that tell you about how prices have been going?
We've seen consumer price index after consumer
price index list airfares as 20 to 30% higher
year over year for the past couple years.
So really, it's squeezing travelers right now.
And honestly, if you can find something that suits
your budget right now, I would say book
it while you can.
So buy right now.
That's the time.
So this month.
Yes, especially for holiday travel.
Do not wait.
Prices aren't going to go down.
Avoid basic economy, right?
Those non-refundable fares where you can't make any changes.
buy a regular economy fare so that if by chance something does go down,
you can pocket a difference
as a flight credit for future use.
But right now, prices are not going down.
We are not seeing them slack at all.
And to that point, and we were talking about this earlier,
we see this every year, record
number of air travel, record number of travel.
There is no incentive then for the airlines
to bring down the cost of travel if people
just keep paying up.
Well, that's interesting you say
that because Delta's CEO just said that the other
day on an earnings call, which is that the market
is bearing these prices, so why would
they lower them?
Right.
People are buying these tickets, so
unfortunately, that's why we've seen these
prices keep rising.
So don't wait for them to go down.
No, they're not going to this year,
it looks like, unfortunately, even beyond
the holidays.
So start thinking into 2027 if you can as well.
And like I said, as long as you're not buying basic fares,
you can always look if the price
drops later and pocket a flight credit.
We've seen that happen at The Points Guy.
We have a few tools we'd like to use like Payback
and Jenova that use AI to help you
with your reservations.
They can monitor them and get
those flight credits for you automatically.
How does that work?
So if somebody were to sign up for something like that?
Absolutely.
So one of my colleagues at the point
guy loves a service called Payback.
It's P-A-I, so that's easy to remember
because it's AI that's helping you do it.
You basically load your reservation into the service
or you can link it to your email basically.
As long as you book directly with an airline,
it can monitor that reservation for you.
the price drops, it snags that for you
and then you can pocket that flight credit.
Wow.
There's another one called Jenova that does
the same thing and it takes a 20% commission
off of the savings.
But you're still saving the money,
so you're not really seeing that price difference there.
So when it comes to like holiday travel,
and you say book now, cuz like a lot of people
just say, I'm gonna wait and see,
maybe there's gonna be like a bargain that comes out.
You're saying that's not gonna happen.
Give us some tips.
When should you be flying?
And people say, you can fly on Thanksgiving
and then you give up your Thanksgiving, but
that still could be a lot cheaper than,
let's say, flying two days before Thanksgiving.
Absolutely.
I mean, think about the days we always
say are the busiest at the airport.
Tuesday, Wednesday before Thanksgiving,
that's Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving.
If you can avoid those days, avoid them.
Take an extra day off work or an extra
day off school if you can with the kids.
You'll have a much better chance the weekend before
or coming into the following week,
like December 1st, I would say,
you'll have a better shot at getting a more decent airfare
this year. And like you said,
there are no savings this year, unfortunately, that we're
seeing prices just keep going up. So that's why don't wait to book.
So we were also talking about, obviously,
this upcoming Super El Nino season. And I imagine
these people who try to book a week-long vacation
to some island somewhere to get away from it all,
And then they see a hurricane,
this and this is coming and so what areas should we avoid
or what areas might be best to go to as we kind
of look forward to this especially tumultuous
weather season?
Sure, I mean regionally here in California,
we're bracing for we don't even know what
probably torrential rains, we're not sure
when they're gonna come, how long they're
gonna last.
We're getting a Santa Ana this week,
everything's just more variable now.
We've already seen some big storms in the Pacific,
especially around Hawaii, and then
also on the west coast of Mexico this past week.
So I would say for the next couple months,
don't look at Pacific vacations.
Unfortunately, those are wonderful destinations,
but you don't wanna take a chance.
Look east, the Caribbean has had a very mild season so far,
so think about an island vacation.
And then I was just in Europe last week for an airline event.
Amsterdam was breezy, beautiful, 70 degrees,
and they're having a tremendous fall this
year.
was sweltering, but it's led to like an Indian summer there, basically.
What do you recommend when it comes to trip insurance?
And you see this with airlines
at the end. They're like, listen, if you buy this trip insurance,
we have weather or something like
that, especially with the weather situation
that we could potentially be dealing with.
It could be alert somewhere.
Do you generally recommend that people buy this trip insurance
or not? I would say skip the trip insurance
that you're offered at the end of making that
airline booking. Instead,
look into an insurance policy that you can buy a la carte, maybe
for one particularly big ticket trip,
or something that lasts all year. If you're a frequent
traveler, I have an annual travel insurance policy.
But it's important that you look at
what the exclusions are, because weather might
be one of those excluded things.
It tends not to be because
that's exactly what you buy insurance for. Also, you might
wanna look at your credit card again
that you're using to book your flight because it
could have trip insurance for you,
trip cancellation or interruption insurance for a covered cause
like weather. There are cards like
the Chase Sapphire Preferred that will cover you up
to $10,000 per trip if you use it to purchase your ticket.
So as long as it's covered and
weather's one of those covered circumstances,
then you should be set with that.
And if you don't have traveler's insurance
and you're about to get some rough weather,
what's your recourse? Absolutely. I see what your options are. A lot
of times airlines issue waivers, sometimes hotels do too.
I mean, the last thing airlines
want are pictures of stranded passengers in airports around the world.
No, that's not good for them.
No, so they're gonna help you change your ticket,
but obviously don't wait to the
last minute to do it when there will be long,
long phone lines, essentially.
And also, use the app.
We've been seeing a lot of scammers
at The Points Guy particularly those Google search results.
So don't Google that flight number.
Go through the airline's app or directly through its website.
Call a number that you find there, not through Google,
so that you don't accidentally call
a fraudulent call center really good we only have like 30 seconds
but you are The Points Guy
uh if people are have points uh what should they
be doing with those should they be using their
points now a lot of people want to save them
for that beautiful trip to Amsterdam or something
like that should they be saving their points
or now in this world where uh it's hard to get a
cheaper ticket should they be trying to use
their points to get a better flight this is the exact
right time to use those points you've been saving
to save some money right unless you're going on
your honeymoon next week and you have a specific use for those miles,
don't worry about the big
ticket trips right now. Save the money
for the travel you know you're taking soon. And there's
always ways to earn more points and miles in the future.
Do not hoard them. They're not gaining
value. Don't wait. Yes. That's the whole point
of this conversation is don't wait. Eric, thank you
so much. Thank you for having me.

and welcome back to you i'm meteorologist Maria
Cubon good daily weather is sponsored by My Home
sold take a look at this this is our Mount Wilson camera you can see
that the trees are definitely
dancing around those winds are picking up guys
and it does get stronger as we get into this day
tonight into tomorrow if you
are traveling uh we have some very wet weather here storm system
moving out of the plains
and into parts of the Midwest today temperatures only in the 50s here
in Minneapolis, 52 degrees.
Look at Bismarck, North Dakota, high of just 48 degrees. Compare
that with Nashville ahead of that storm system,
92 this afternoon to that 88 in Atlanta, 90 in
Houston, 89 in Phoenix.
We have an area of high pressure that is in control of our weather here
across the West. Clockwise flow of air around
this area of high pressure coming out of the
Northeast. Those winds, those Santa Ana winds
are going to dry things out. It's going to warm us up,
Also, it will give us lots of sunshine and,
of course, heighten the fire danger.
I want to point out two storm systems we're watching.
We've got Tropical Storm Simon that really did change its trajectory.
It is now going to move northwest, closer to the Baja Peninsula.
And behind that, we've got Hurricane Trudy,
who's following very close behind, really that same pattern,
kind of pushing closer to the west-northwest.
And we'll probably skirt the Baja Peninsula as well.
Is it going to enter our swell window?
It'll probably continue to reinforce those swells up
and down the Baja Peninsula and into Southern California.
We may tap into a little bit of that moisture
from Simon as we get into this weekend.
Otherwise, high pressure should keep us dry through at least Sunday.
And then we watch an approaching area of low pressure.
This is going to change our weather again,
a major change in our weather pattern
because this is a colder storm that's going to move down the coast,
bring us clouds by Tuesday and then some shower chances.
Look at this, by late Tuesday into Wednesday,
snow up into the Sierra Nevada, perhaps some
snow for us as well.
But this will be a welcome change.
We need the rain.
It will help to mitigate that fire danger,
which is gonna be up certainly today.
So we have a slew of weather alerts in place.
These winds, by the way,
expected to be sustained anywhere from 25 to 35, even 40 mile per hour
winds out of the Northeast.
And then gusts can get up to 50, 60 miles an hour,
some of the isolated areas getting
up to 70.
usual wind prone areas below the canyons
and passes that will needless to say really give
us hazardous driving conditions.
So if you've got those high profile vehicles,
those campers, don't be doing it under these
weather conditions.
We could see some downed trees and power lines possible
and power outages certainly in the
forecast.
I know we've been talking about that since yesterday.
So just be prepared for that as well
as parking restrictions will be in place because of those
red flag warnings.
88 degrees along the coast today.
We still have the beach hazard statement
for the higher surf rolling in.
91 tomorrow, 86 tomorrow.
This is at the beach.
So do you have those heat advisories in effect?
Bigger changes as we get into next week and that chance for rain.
So that'll be good.
89 for downtown LA, 92 tomorrow.
Staying in the 80s through the better part of the weekend.
92 in the valleys and the Inland Empire
with those high wind warnings in effect.
Please be extra careful with those fire ignition sources.
As we saw even yesterday with the breezes picking up a little bit,
several fires that did occur.
57 up into the mountains where those winds will
be really gusty on that drive up.
The drive to the deserts as well.
82 today out towards the Antelope Valley, the Apple Valley area,
and then out towards the Coachella Valley.
That drive on that 10 will get you.
So be extra careful driving as well to Palm Springs.
87 there today, dropping to 79 on Wednesday
with that 10 to 30% chance increasing.
from Tuesday into Wednesday.
So hopefully we will get that right.

Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer.
We're actually talking about the game.
This is the game, not the show.
Anyway.
We are the news.
Some days.
A popular sign of the Halloween season
just popped up in New York City.
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
He just returned to the Ghostbusters
firehouse. This is Hook and Ladder
8 in Manhattan's Tribeca
neighborhood. It was featured in the original
film and some of the sequels,
most recently Ghostbusters Frozen Empire in 2024.
The working firehouse has become
a must visit destination for fans more than four decades
after its big screen debut.
How tall would you say, 20 feet?
How tall would you say that is?
That's more than 20 feet.
Right?
How many feet?
Probably 30.
Wow.
Yeah.
All right, that leads us to our poll question of the day.
What's the funniest movie for the Halloween season,
Ghostbusters, Adam's Family, Beetlejuice,
or Hocus Pocus?
Where's the scary movie franchise on that list?
Ghostbusters so far, coming in at number one,
go to foxla.com slash vote.
Let us know, weigh in, or leave us a comment,
maybe there's something that we left off the
list.
Yeah, let us know how you're doing.
Saw movies, no, I'm just kidding.
Take a short break and
we will be right back.
Yes.
We should have been on that one.
We should have been, right?
