Welcome to GDLA+. We take you to a breaking news situation in South LA.
Stu and Sky Fox. So this is the end of a pursuit. What happened?
End of a pursuit, but it's one of those ones where, you know,
they're going to start talking about technical things.
It was a pursuit. One of those vehicles down there was a 211 suspect.
It means robbery. That suspect in custody sitting there on the curb.
But because of the high speeds and reckless driving,
they discontinued the pursuit.
They called it off. They said, guys, get off and stop chasing that car.
Lights and sirens were shut off.
All the cars on the ground that were chasing them backed off.
And then the helicopter stayed with it for just
a little bit longer, and then this happened.
Head-on collision right there.
This is going to be at Western and 41st Street.
Now, you can see that suspect on the ground in cuffs.
They definitely called for an ambulance.
This literally just happened probably just
as we were going out to break.
And you can see the damage out there.
LAPD, that suspect in custody.
My question is, if that's
because we were a little farther away when this all happened,
I'm not sure about the innocent person that may have been involved.
We haven't seen any civilian get out of a vehicle.
We haven't seen any of the officers rendering aid
to any civilians down there.
A lot of black and whites arrived here
very quickly after that collision.
The helicopter definitely called it out,
saw it, and called it out immediately,
saying that they need an ambulance here.
Right now, you got the suspect in custody,
not sure about the innocent people in the
other car.
And right now, one in custody, pursuit termination,
well, that's to be determined.
Stu up at Sky Fox, sending it back to y'all in the studio.
Okay, Stu, thank you so much.
Moving on, we talked Dodgers, hi.
Hi.
By the way, welcome, hi.
Hi.
Hello.
Hi.
Stu's here, Maria's sticking around, it's all good.
So the Dodgers lost game three, as you know,
at this point last night, and they are on
the verge of being swept by the Brewers.
All signs pointed to a turnaround for the boys
in blue. They were back home in Chavez Ravine
and they had a new team member.
Okay, so this is really cute.
Hours before the game, catch Will Smith's wife,
Cara posted this Instagram with the caption
our third October baby girl Carter. There's
I like that name. Actually, it's kind of cool, right?
They have three babies all born in
October, it's kind of like that unisex January, so congratulations,
congratulations, maybe it's an anniversary, congratulations
to the Smith family, new dad was seemingly inspired,
he did come through with a huge hit, right, in the sixth inning,
the stadium was rocking, fans finally had something
to cheer about in the series, the new dad was pumped,
then a couple of local guys had to ruin it, in the very next inning,
Jake Bowers from Marina High School in Huntington Beach,
had a great at-bat and hit a two-run home run,
scoring Westlake's Christian Yelich.
The next batter, Garrett Mitchell from Orange High School,
also hit another home run.
Sometimes it really do be your own people, right?
I know.
So back-to-back for the Brew crew, and they never look back.
Dodger fans, though, it was rough to watch.
So there it is, 3-0 lead in the series.
Brewers are ahead.
So the comeback tonight, it's on tonight.
Game four is on FS1,
game time is set for five o'clock out of Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers need a win to keep their season
and quest for three-peat alive.
I thought the game was earlier.
That's what I thought too, it was an hour earlier.
I thought it was an hour earlier.
No, I think it was supposed to be at six and then they made it at five.
Oh, you mean earlier than planned today.
I thought it was earlier than yesterday.
That's what I thought too.
Sometimes our brains are thinking the same.
Yep, there you go.
So now that we have that sorted, we are still hopeful that the Dodgers
will win four straight games to advance to the World Series.
Hey, if anybody can do it, they can, right, despite all odds.
Well, Mario Ramirez is live in Eagle Rock right now.
That's right, getting the true blue fans' thoughts.
Good morning.
The Dodgers are going to do it.
That's what we have to be thinking
as we head into this crucial game four.
It's all or nothing.
The Dodgers are one loss away from their season ending.
And the Brewers are one win away from the pennant.
So this is a big deal.
A lot of fans here at Colorado Donuts throughout the morning.
They've been excited.
I want to show you this really quickly because Colorado Donuts
is known to bring people good luck when it comes to the lottery.
So we're hoping that all the fans here who've been coming in,
checking in with the staff here,
that they're going to be bringing them some good luck as well.
You can see they've got racks of Dodgers donuts.
and it's been tough, but most of the fans that we've been talking to
are very hopeful as we're heading into this next game at 5 p.m.,
an hour earlier than what was initially scheduled at Dodger Stadium.
Jeremy Lee is one of the co-owners here.
What are you feeling as we go into this day and ahead of Game 4?
I mean, I'm feeling hopeful.
The Dodgers won four in a row last year,
so I'm hoping they can do it again this year,
although it's a different situation, but I think they can do it.
What are you hearing from customers as they're coming in?
pretty much the same thing. Everybody's hopeful.
Dodger fans are always hopeful.
You can't give up.
I know your mom, Sophia, here, she's got her
Dodgers jersey on.
She's a little shy, but she
loves the Dodgers.
This is a family-owned business,
Cambodian business here.
They put their heart into
these donuts. Now, throughout the morning, as I said,
we've been talking to fans. I talked to
Joe Gonzalez, a lifelong
Dodger fan. You may remember last year
heading into the World Series, he actually let us dye his hair.
Take a look.
Oh, my God.
You got to remember that, yes, the other team is.
That is amazing.
Joe Gonzalez, you are a legend.
But no, this is great.
Something to do.
Something to do.
Okay, you guys, Joe Gonzalez, I mean,
he wanted to make his message clear.
Today is not the day to give up.
We have to keep things alive, the hope alive.
Okay, so we've been ambushing people
who come into the Colorado Donuts here.
We just knocked on the window.
You were outside.
UPS worker carrying the mail.
What do you think about the Dodgers?
What is there to think about?
Well, you know, we're one loss away from the season ending.
How are you feeling?
Are you a Dodger fan?
I'm a Dodger fan.
I'm a Dodger fan.
Am I disappointed?
No, because they came already with a few championships.
championship, so why be disappointed?
What's one loss? There you go.
You got to be positive about it.
Where are you headed with the mail?
Wherever I want.
Let's send it
back to you guys, but we're going to go,
let's go Dodgers.
Let's go Dodgers.
Let's go Dodgers.
Let's go Dodgers.
A key to the city,
you think I have more pull than I do.
She wants Akita to sit down.
Take the headrest.
You did so great with all the fans all morning long.
I love it.
We're going to do it, you guys.
We're going to do it.
We're going to do it.
We are.
That's right.
We are.
Marvis cracking me up.
He's definitely got the sugar high.
The bigger his eyes are, I know he's had some sugar.
Like saucers, I know.
Oh, my gosh.
All right, speaking of Dodgers,
Dodger Pride is a way of life for one group of fans,
and they make their loyalty known everywhere they go.
Bob DiCastro, Bobby D with a low-riders club.
Looking real hard.
That's my Dodger Blue, Bobby D.
I love this.
We're serious now.
Yeah.
Look at that.
We are serious.
We are serious, people.
We are serious.
We're not messing around now.
This is it.
We're going to represent for the Dodger game tonight.
We're ready to go with the heavy hitters here.
Let's do this.
Let's go, Dodgers.
Let's go, Dodgers.
Gunshot.
Okay.
Gunshot.
Doing it.
Doing it.
Coach, tell us what's going on here, what's the key
to the game tonight, what's going to happen here, what do we got to do?
The key to the game is right when we leave here, we're going to go kill
a chicken and bring in the spirit of Santería to warm up these bats.
Because you got to do what you got to do.
I mean, if that's what's going to work, right?
Yes, sir.
Tell us what's going to happen here tonight.
We got to really bring it.
We're going to win 4-1 tonight.
4-1.
That's it.
I agree with that.
4-1.
Yeah, 4-1.
What's the key here?
And I don't want to even think about the past
and what happened with the three games.
Because at this point, it's like one game at a time,
one inning at a time, one bat at a time.
We've got to get through this.
So, what do you think is going to be the key to the game?
I believe small ball.
Play small ball, put hits in bunches.
You know what I mean?
Steal some bases, bump people across,
and get some runs on the board right there.
Yeah.
So we don't need to go long, go big, whatever.
They'll come when they come.
They'll come when they come.
I concur with that.
Okay.
How are we doing?
We're doing good.
Good.
How are you feeling coming into the game tonight?
And tell me what it's like to be a Dodger fan.
You've probably been a Dodger fan a long time.
Yes, well, L.A. all my life, you know, so a long time.
But today, like you guys have been saying all day, one game at a time,
Pitch at a time, but we got to come out with that W today.
Are you confident with Glass now on the mound tonight?
And how do you think that's going to go for us?
Well, hopefully he does his thing today, you know.
All the pitchers do their thing today.
We got to take it one at a time like we said earlier.
Who gave me this thing, by the way?
Who gave me this thing?
Who gave me this thing?
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on.
That's for later.
Hold on.
I was like, what is this?
What is this?
Heavy hitter, gangster Bobby D.
That's right.
See, this is for the celebration.
That's for later, later, later.
That's for later, later.
Take it easy.
Take it easy.
One game at a time.
One game at a time.
All right.
And you tell me, Coach, what it means to have
your buddies here and to be Dodger fans,
to be part of the heavy hitters,
for everyone to come together to support each other.
Now, check this out.
Being a sports fan, being a co-worker, being friends,
this is one of the most beautiful things you can experience
in your life.
Being with your friends, good times, good places, and good baseball.
Which, when you're down and out and things don't look good,
you have all your friends to support you,
and then it really makes the victory seem that much sweeter, right?
It's like...
It's all about focus.
You can't get worried about every obstacle you run into.
It's the long game. We're here for the long haul.
We're here for the end game.
This is why we call you the coach.
You know what, I just smoke a lot of, my bad.
All right, let's go Dodgers.
Let's go Dodgers, let's go Dodgers.
We got cigars are coming tonight, cigars.
Gee.
Bobby D.
Yes.
Look at the murals too behind him.
I know exactly where you are.
If you like poke, like right up the street,
there's always the longest line.
It is the best spot, right where you are.
You could even walk to it.
The best where?
Poke it.
What is it?
Poke it.
Dodger talk.
I can barely hear, he's got the tunes going over here.
He's got his own radio show going on right now.
I have no idea what's going on.
Bob, you look really cool.
You look really cool.
All hands on deck.
All hands on deck.
keep that look keep that look yes just yeah
bobby d mac bobby d mac he looks he looks yeah
tough he looks tough yeah that's right that's right
so he didn't better not post anything
on instagram though because the last time he did
which is yesterday that was yesterday
yeah don't do it so just calm down wait
um he didn't get in a low rider we were hoping for
that all morning he didn't do that because we wanted
to compare the reaction and how he would
handle it last time, not this group,
but we had a different group in outside of the studio.
They're good friends.
Sandra and I got in one.
Do you guys remember?
Yeah, of course.
That was so funny.
Are we gonna show it?
Yeah.
Oh, toss it back.
Go, go, go, go.
Did
you
see
this?
And then they tilt it.
It was wild.
I thought you guys were gonna pop out.
I thought so too.
I was hanging on for dear life.
This is crazy.
It was so funny.
That's awesome.
Hanging on for dear life.
This is crazy.
It was so funny.
That's awesome.
I've noticed when I get scared, I laugh.
Did you feel like you're gonna fall out?
A lot of people when they're nervous.
But yeah, she said she felt like she was gonna pop out.
I really did feel that way, yeah.
It was, I don't know why I'm doing that either.
Like, it's a peace sign.
It's the elder millennial thing to do.
That's so sad.
You're trying to be like hardcore.
Cool.
And I'm not, got it.
You said elder.
Elder millennial, we all are.
Anyway, it was so much fun.
So my gosh, how cool, that's a dream, it really is.
From laughing to screaming, maybe.
Screaming, yeah, I'll take you
to the 17th door when we come back.
Welcome back, if you think you can handle
a good scare this Halloween, think again.
The 17th door in Buena Park is ready to put you to the test.
This is an extreme haunted attraction, features 17 terrifying rooms,
experiments, scares so intense that you have
to sign a waiver as soon as you
walk in the door.
Or wear a diaper.
Or wear a diaper, wear your brown pants when you walk into this place.
There's also a safe word, by the way, the safe word being mercy.
For real. And you can't use that.
And what will they do?
They'll stop.
They'll stop.
They'll just stop?
Yeah, that's right.
The lights come on.
Check it out.
You all are fearless.
This is how it all starts.
You sign the waiver.
What's this for?
You have now earned a chance at freedom.
Repeat after me.
I swear
to be
fearless
until I
die.
Nice to meet you.
I want to leave
Do you want to leave?
Yes.
I don't want to be here anymore.
It's been too long.
I can't do it anymore.
Follow me.
Let's go.
Go.
It's real.
Oh my.
What's this?
Oh my God.
I'm
looking
for
the
openings
and
the
gaps,
because
that's
where
the
hands
can
come
from.
Revolve?
I like that shirt.
It's really nice.
It's a good shirt.
You look good.
You look good.
Yeah.
You look good.
I'm scared.
Do you understand how hard I had to brush through my hair?
I was wondering about that.
Oh my gosh.
Okay, so if you want to get tickets,
I honestly, so much fun at this haunted maze.
I can't even tell you the best time I've had in a long time.
for the 17th door haunt experience run through november 1st
at the buena park downtown mall
and for more info there just go
to the 17th door.com and maria you were asking earlier
how old you have to be at least 16 i thought you
were gonna say 17 okay i would think that you know
you'd have to be a little bit older
but but we have some fearless teenagers yeah we know this
you think gus whatever well he's not 16 yet
so he wouldn't be able to go does he like scary you
know he he does but maybe not to this degree
um how much is it by the way um but it's 45 minutes
i know that you mentioned 45 minutes you do get
your money's worth i do know that it's a reasonable
price i also do know that give me a second okay okay
of course it's like a natural question why
would i not oh sorry i put you on spot
but i know you said it was like 17 different rooms and it's
like almost an hour going through it's 39 dollars
and up oh my god that is awesome not bad at all and when
I tell you, it's like, you know,
some of the experiences, that was mild compared to what
they do in these rooms.
Oh, you mean they made it a little more mild for you?
They'll shave your head.
There's like a negative 20 degree meat locker that they put you in.
I can't be cold.
Right.
There's, yeah, of course.
There's the, there's like confined spaces.
There's also, they have live insects.
That part I know.
So like cockroaches and spiders.
You would have liked that.
I would have actually loved that.
No, you would have liked the spiders.
Yeah, yeah, they didn't do that to us.
I wish they did, but it's great, you should go.
You shouldn't, but- I don't know, yeah, I don't think you
would not be able to handle that.
No, I go through haunted mazes with my eyes closed and I just scream.
There's no point.
And I hit walls, there's really no point.
I just scream my way through it with my eyes shut, so yeah.
Okay, this is me, right?
It's you.
Okay, so witchcraft, speaking of Halloween and scary stuff.
Witchcraft is finding a whole new audience online
and now you can buy a spell with just
a few clicks.
What?
Wow.
Right.
Okay.
I put a spell on you.
This brings a whole new meaning because on Etsy,
sellers are offering everything from
love spells to good luck and even better weather.
It's a growing social media trend where brides
are buying a spell hoping for things like
good weather on their upcoming wedding day.
Other listings we've seen include spells for
manifesting career dreams, financial goals, even custom wishes.
I'm not sure yet. So some spells
cost as little, oh, here we go, $2 some,
and then others are going for like five, 10 bucks or even
$15. Now, wait a second. Yeah, depending on how hard.
Is this somebody else casting a spell for
who's casting it, who's casting it, sex castings I saw
that too I was like oh so somebody
on Etsy someone who has the power apparently
and the magic wand uh like her psychic medium here
you can just order this up
and they will cast the spell for you hey guys yeah you know money's
money's tight yeah right now
that's weird don't don't don't just don't do that, that's for people
I mean, that's why you have those psychic readers
in every corner and have like high
I always wonder about those people who actually goes
in people with the tarot readers that
you know, they live in that house on Paul, right?
Yes.
I've always wanted to go in just
to see like what they would say, but that's, that's all.
It's like a magic eight ball, right?
It kind of is, but I mean, haven't you
been to like parties where they have somebody that
does it now have like a seance?
no someone who reads your palm does the card thing
in front of you some of them are actually
kind of on on point they scare me
that's why i will say the one i did go to see one psychic
one time and she told me and this was like months
and months before i even met Jared she said by
next april you're going to meet the love of your life
and April, if I remember, that following April
was the first time I saw Ethan on ultrasound.
Wow, he's the love of your life.
But again, you can like twist anything you want
into your narrative, right?
If you believe hard enough.
Sometimes it's you hear that and then you kind of manifest it.
I believe that, so some of it is that, it's gotta be.
Yep, like with Armenian coffee,
they turn it over and then they read the cup.
That freaks me out, really does.
Armenian coffee freaks me out, I'm not gonna lie.
It's intense.
It's really strong.
Yeah. It's so good though.
It's so good.
It's got a lot of sugar.
Yeah, is that why?
Yeah. If you add to it,
you can make it without it.
Well, wasn't it you that brought
someone in and
they made it in the kitchen?
Yeah, they made it with sugar.
It was so delicious.
It's supposed to be bitter though.
The rest of the day I was like,
ooh, ooh.
You were wired?
Yeah.
You know what would go great with
coffee is this.
This.
Okay, so this is really good.
Trader Joe's has everything
pumpkin if you've been in there.
Yes.
Everything is pumpkin right now.
I know, they really go on.
Hold on, there we go.
So this is the pumpkin sourdough bread.
It is time for-
Try it and buy it.
Buy it and try it.
Thank you so much.
Yeah, I was like, which way do we go?
That way.
So here it is.
We're going to try it.
Now, the coloring is something that's doing me off a little bit.
Pumpkin spice, little cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg.
Yellowy, browny.
I have tried this, I will say.
I've toasted it, and with butter, it is so good.
I think anything but butter.
Oh, true.
Anything with butter.
Anything with butter is just so good.
This is great.
I like that it's soft.
Right away, yeah.
That's usually sourdough is kind of hard.
And usually pumpkin bread is super sweet and this isn't.
No, it really smells like pumpkin.
Just like light notes of pumpkin.
It's not too oppressive.
Also doesn't taste like too cinnamony.
Yeah, that's why I like it.
Too spicy, yeah.
I definitely need butter.
I recommend it, water?
Butter.
Butter.
Yeah.
Absolutely, toast it.
Toast it with butter.
Put some butter on it, toast it.
I say thumbs up, it's good, right?
Yeah, get it while you can do a honey butter.
Wow, that I don't think I've ever had honey butter,
honey butter, honey butter.
So good honey butter like that.
How do they mean that honey is a game
for it's all happening five o'clock tonight.
Let's see if we can get it done.
I mean, let's let's see if you can stay alive, right?
It's not over until the lady sings.
I mean, the stats are against, but you know what?
They could do it.
Can we not say that?
You can't say it anymore.
I don't think so.
Wait, did you just make
that up or is that a rule?
I just made it up.
I just wanna know so
I don't make the mistake.
I'm not gonna say it.
Okay.
Are you gonna say it?
Did you say the whole thing?
No, I said the lady sings.
She said it's not over
till the lady sings.
See, that doesn't really,
yeah, that's fine.
Didn't that originate with
the opera?
Of course, yeah.
Yeah, that makes sense.
That's right.
Well, anyway, hey,
it's Thursday.
Which means we are one step
closer to Sunday and
the scaries come along with it.
My Sunday scaries actually start
on Saturday.
Yeah, turns out that lingering dread of Monday morning taking
a heavier toll on your downtime, too.
So a new report from the Wall Street Journal shows the Sunday scaries
are intensifying nationwide as heavy workloads and constant digital
connectivity cause end-of-weekend stress to creep into our Saturdays.
Look at that.
With over 80% of people reporting lost sleep and weekend anxiety,
psychologists recommend mapping out Monday's
to-do list before logging on.
off on Friday, so your mind can truly disconnect.
Actually, that was stressing me out before,
that was stressing me out before.
Backloading it, right?
Like on the back end of your work week,
so it doesn't trickle into your weekends.
I don't know about that.
But if you work hours, like early morning hours like we do,
we gotta shut her down at like seven,
eight o'clock at night on a Sunday.
And then the whole day you're thinking, well,
it's X number of hours until I have to go to bed.
Do you guys do this because I put a lot
of pressure on myself to do something on Friday
night.
Yeah.
Because on Saturday night- Because it feels like a longer weekend.
Yes, it does.
Yes.
But also like Saturday night if I go
do something really crazy fun, I feel like,
no, that's gonna mess me up some day.
So I put pressure to do it on Friday night.
Then you're like just- Also-
Then I can't do it because I'm exhausted.
But also Friday because you already have
your hair and makeup done from working.
True.
So on Saturday, you don't have to put the effort in.
This is true.
Yeah. Good point.
I get the Sunday scaries the moment
I open my eyes.
I literally open my eyes and
I'm like, it's over.
It's like a whole day of shot.
It's over.
It is, it's already over.
Yes, okay, so
actress Hilary Swank has major
announcement, her family
celebrating,
watch
this.
Okay, the announcement comes three
years after Swank welcomed her
first kids, a pair of twins.
But you can see there dancing in
the video, she captioned it as,
a lot of people have been asking
what project I'm doing next, this one releases in December.
There she is with her husband and kids.
She says having kids later in life just worked out
for her because she can be more present with
them than she would have been if she was younger.
That part I can understand for sure.
Sure, if you are, frankly,
in a privileged position to be able to afford at that age,
right? Yeah. And that's why it's such a joyful, easier for her to do.
Yeah, yeah, but you're taking time, oh
but it's a lot of work, a lot regular people, yeah regular
that's a, that's a lot of work, yeah
and a lot of money, can I imagine at this age? You mean my age
or her age? Our producer's 52. No, I cannot, I can't, I can't imagine
at either age, but that's just me
I'm just tapped out, same, I'm done, I'm good. I did it at 42
and that that just like destroyed
everything inside, right? I'm still paying
for it right now, like it's just, yeah, I can't imagine
52, it's just, it's just, right? I mean the crawling
on the floor like with the baby, you know, 50
something years old, god bless the ones
who can do it now. It's like me, my kids want to play on
the floor and like I'm like, can I just sit? Like I don't even want
to get on the ground because
coming back up, my knees hurt, cars
and now imagine like a tiny little car, hey let's play cars and
And you're on your hands and knees.
It's happening.
Or how about this?
What about they want to go ride roller coasters and stuff?
I mean, by the time Ethan gets to an age where he's really, are you-
I'm going to have to go to the chiropractor.
You're going to-
Yeah.
I'm going to be taking the Centrum Silver by the time
You have-
Got to get my vitamin D intake.
I got to build up the calcium for the bones.
For the bones.
Yeah.
We'll check in with Stu when we come back.
Our Stu,
hey.
Namaste.
Hey, good morning to you ladies.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
You know, I'm just letting you ladies know, anything you're going
to see from aerial pictures, it is bumpy out there.
I don't know if Maria's still sitting there with you guys,
but it is, oh my gosh, it is going down up there.
Not that way.
Maybe I should verb things better.
But it is really windy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
For a couple of minutes, I'm sure.
Yeah, the assignment desk is probably sitting there right now trying
to find another thing for us to go to.
Which is great.
Don't get me wrong, love it.
I love this, the little to-do list, the honey-do list.
All right, ladies,
let's go on out and check out the Cinerama Dome out in Hollywood.
You know, we talked about it.
We know about it.
It's like, hey, it's coming together.
We're bringing it back.
We're redoing it.
It's getting the love, and it actually is getting the love.
There's workers out there.
The work has started.
Let's do this right.
let's do the Sony Pictures
and Alamo Draft House present the new Cinerama Dome it is true this is
what is going on ArcLight is uh
and and Alamo are getting together and they're going to put
out the Alamo uh they're putting up the Draft House
and i'm not 100 sure if the Draft House
is going to be in the Cinerama Dome
or if the Draft House is just going to be in the ArcLight section
but i thought the ArcLight section was just going
to open they're just going to open up their doors
start doing movies again no no no no no ArcLight i you know i look
at that and i'm like that's a
new theater it was built in oh two so it's 24 years old
and apparently they're turning that
portion into the Arc Light itself
that's where they're gonna do that they're gonna put the
kitchen in they gotta do plumbing they have like
the big jets fly by they gotta redo the electrical
they have uh they got a lot going on over there
and they're actually gonna set up karaoke there
as well 70 millimeters is what is capabilities
and then also they're talking about the 4k laser
the dome itself well you know the hexagons
the pentagons the 316 pieces of interlocking
concrete panels that is also going to get a lot of love as well
and they are saying they're
guaranteeing that the dome is going to look
on the outside is going to look pristine and new
which is going to be amazing in itself now
the opening date that's the part where i kind of just
got to go come on guys 2028 is what they're talking about
and uh wow there goes another
big jet that's a big jet anyway 2028
is when they're going to open it back up it's it's uh
i'm looking forward to it i'm definitely going
to take advantage of both the Alamo section or
and the draft house and then of course
also the cinema dome but the tech is what's slowing it
down i guess and the renovations inside the Arc Light
but i'm definitely excited and we definitely
saw movement so that's what we brought
to you today ladies, have you mentioned this? Are they are
they gonna keep the signage
because the signage is pretty iconic, yes they have to, yes okay that's
good yes that that that is part of it when they're saying
the original they're gonna keep
the outside looking original, that's part of it.
I'm sure they're going to have to put Sony Pictures
or Drafthouse on there somewhere.
But yeah, definitely the signage is going to be iconic
and the same. And just the dome is pretty amazing,
but they're out there and they're
starting the renovations. And what more can you say?
I'm excited to go. It used to be like
the fanciest movie theater once upon a time.
There you are. Bring them out, bring them out.
Maria made a comment on the morning show.
I don't think that she's seen them.
I just thought your hair was back in a pony.
I feel like Pippi Longstocking.
I didn't realize you got the braids.
Do you?
Oh, side view?
Yeah, look at that.
Oh my God.
How long did that take?
That must have took like a couple hours at least.
You know what?
No, really?
More than a couple hours.
It was a lot of conversation, a lot of breaks, a lot of hanging out.
But it was fun.
Do you play with your hair all the time now?
Constantly, no, not at all, actually it's much less,
I'm actually, I always just do
that, but I'm actually, I love it,
I think I look good, I look like I just got out of
the pool.
You always look good.
You look 20 years younger.
Yeah.
But also just facing from the front, I had no idea, until you turned.
It's like a business in the front and a party in the back.
I like changing it up.
There you go.
It's good.
Business all over.
Business all over.
Thank you, Stu.
I'm all business.
All business.
Hey, if you got nothing going on,
remember on Saturday, Azusa, I'm going to do that.
That's tomorrow's spotting, Stu.
But Azusa, on Saturday.
Okay.
Grand Marshal.
Oh, wow.
Golden days.
That's me.
All right, Stu.
Love you.
Thank you.
Be right back.
Be right back.
Getting home for the holidays could take
a bigger bite of your gift budget this year.
Sure could.
And what you book now could make all
the difference come November and December.
Holiday flights are already bringing some sticker shock.
Hopper puts average domestic round-trip fares
at about $400 for Thanksgiving and $450 for Christmas.
This is the highest prices we've seen in a decade.
Add to that the high fuel costs
and the potential for El Nino weather delays.
There's plenty to plan around.
And you really have to plan around all these things.
And joining us now to help answer some of those questions,
The Points Guy, director of contents and travel expert, Eric Rosen.
It's kind of like we're facing some landmines here when we travel.
It's really tough for travelers right now.
Higher prices, uncertainty around the weather, especially with El Nino.
We've already seen it wreak havoc on certain destinations
in the Pacific, including the west coast of Mexico this past week.
So travelers have a lot to keep in mind, obviously.
They said $400 there.
And that to me sounds on the cheaper side.
I mean, I had a friend that just took a flight
and she's not even going outside of the country
and it was $900.
Isn't that the truth these days, right?
$400 seems cheap.
What does that tell you about how prices have been going?
We've seen consumer price index after consumer
price index list airfares as 20 to 30% higher
year over year for the past couple of years.
So really, it's squeezing travelers right now.
And honestly, if you can find something that suits
your budget right now, I would say book
it while you can.
Honestly, buy right now, that's the time, so this month.
Yes, especially for holiday travel, do not wait.
Prices aren't going to go down.
Avoid basic economy, right,
those non-refundable fares where you can't make any changes.
Buy a regular economy fare so that if by chance something does go down,
you can pocket the difference as a flight credit for future use.
But right now, prices are not going down.
We are not seeing them slack at all.
And to that point, and we were talking about this earlier,
we see this every year.
record number of air travel record number
of travel what there is no incentive then for the
airlines to bring down the cost of travel
if people just keep paying up well that's interesting
you say that because Delta CEO just said
that the other day on an earnings call which is that the
market is bearing these prices
so why would they lower them people are buying these these tickets
so unfortunately that's why we've seen these prices keep rising
so don't wait for them to go
down no they're not going to this year it looks
like unfortunately even beyond the holidays so
So start thinking into 2027 if you can as well.
And like I said, as long as you're not buying basic fares,
you can always look at if the
price drops later and pocket a flight credit.
We've seen that happen at the Points Guy.
We have a few tools we'd like to use like Payback
and Juno that use AI to help you
with your reservations.
They can monitor them and get
those flight credits for you automatically.
How does that work?
So if somebody were to sign up for something like that?
Absolutely.
So one of my colleagues at the Point
Sky loves a service called Payback.
It's PAI, so that's easy to remember
because it's AI that's helping you do it.
You basically load your reservation into the service,
or you can link it to your email, basically.
As long as you book directly with an airline,
it can monitor that reservation for you.
If the price drops, it snags that for you,
and then you can pocket that flight credit.
There's another one called Genova that does the same thing,
and it takes a 20% commission off of the savings.
But you're still saving the money,
so you're not really seeing that price difference there.
So when it comes to like holiday travel and you say book now,
because like a lot of people just say, well, I'm going to wait and see.
Maybe there's going to be like a bargain that comes out
that you're saying that's not going to happen.
Give us some tips. When should you be flying?
When, you know, people say, you know,
you can fly on Thanksgiving and then you give up your Thanksgiving.
But that still could be cheaper than a lot cheaper than,
let's say, flying two days before Thanksgiving.
Absolutely. I mean, think about the days we always say
are the busiest at the airport.
Tuesday, Wednesday before Thanksgiving,
that's Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving.
If you can avoid those days, avoid them,
take an extra day off work or an extra day off
school if you can with the kids,
you'll have much better chance the weekend before or coming
into the following week, like December 1st,
I would say, you'll have a better shot at
getting a more decent airfare this year.
And like you said, there are no savings this year,
unfortunately, that we're seeing prices
just keep going up.
So that's why don't wait to book.
So, you know, we were also talking about,
obviously, this upcoming super El Nino season.
And I imagine these people who try to book a week-long vacation
to some island somewhere to get away from it all,
and then they see, oh, a hurricane, this and this is coming.
And so what areas should we avoid
or what areas might be best to go to as we kind
of look forward to this especially tumultuous weather season?
Sure. I mean, regionally here in California,
we're bracing for we don't even know what,
probably torrential rains. We're not sure
when they're going to come, how long they're going
to last. We're getting a Santa Ana this week.
Everything's just more variable now. We've
already seen some big storms in the Pacific,
especially around Hawaii and then also on the
west coast of Mexico this past week.
So I would say for the next couple of months,
don't look at Pacific vacations.
Unfortunately, those are wonderful destinations, but you don't
want to take a chance. Look east.
The Caribbean has had a very mild season so far. So think about
an island vacation. And then I was just
in Europe last week for an airline event. Amsterdam
was breezy, beautiful, 70 degrees,
and they're having a tremendous fall this year. Their
summer was sweltering, but it's led
to like an Indian summer there basically.
What do you recommend when it comes to trip insurance?
And you see this with airlines
at the end, they're like, listen,
if you buy this trip insurance, we have weather or something
like that, especially with the weather situation
that we could potentially be dealing with
I think it could be an alert somewhere.
Do you generally recommend that people buy this trip insurance or not?
I would say skip the trip insurance that you're offered
at the end of making that airline booking.
Instead, look into an insurance policy that you can buy a la carte,
maybe for one particularly big-ticket trip,
or something that lasts all year.
If you're a frequent traveler,
I have an annual travel insurance policy.
But it's important that you look at what the exclusions are,
because weather might be one of those excluded things.
It tends not to be because that's exactly what you buy insurance for.
Also, you might wanna look at your credit card again
that you're using to book your
flight because it could have trip insurance for you,
trip cancellation or interruption
insurance for a covered cause like weather.
There are cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred
that will cover you up to $10,000 per trip
if you use it to purchase your ticket.
So as long as it's covered
and weather's one of those covered circumstances, then you should
be set with that.
don't have traveler's insurance
and you're about to get some rough weather.
What's your recourse?
Absolutely.
I see what your options are.
A lot of times airlines issue waivers, sometimes hotels do too.
I mean, the last thing airlines want are pictures
of stranded passengers in airports around
the world.
No, that's not good for them.
No, so they're gonna help you change your
ticket, but obviously don't wait to the
last minute to do it when there will be long,
long phone lines, essentially, and also use
the app.
We've been seeing a lot of scammers
at the points guy populate those Google search results.
So don't Google that flight number.
Go through the airline's app or directly through its website.
Call a number that you find there, not through Google,
so that you don't accidentally call a fraudulent call center.
We only have like 30 seconds, but you are the points guy.
If people have points, what should they be doing with those?
Should they be using their points?
Now, a lot of people want to save them
for that beautiful trip to Amsterdam or something like that.
Should they be saving their points
or now in this world where it's hard to get a cheaper ticket,
should they be trying to use their points to get a better flight?
This is the exact right time to use those points you've
been saving to save some money, right?
Unless you're going on your honeymoon next week
and you have a specific use for those miles.
Don't worry about the big ticket trips right now.
Save the money for the travel you know you're taking soon.
And there's always ways to earn more points and miles in the future.
Do not hoard them.
They're not gaining value.
Don't wait.
Yes.
That's the whole point of this conversation is don't wait.
Eric, thank you so much.
Thank you for having me.
Appreciate you.
All right, this is so cool.
Watch closely.
On a golf course in Scotland,
the agony of defeat turned into the thrill of victory in a single putt.
Penn State golfer Madeline Zhang tried to sink a putt.
It almost went in.
Then it veered away from the hole.
And just when she thought she'd miss, the wind blew it right in.
So watch again.
Watch, watch.
she's like, oh, I missed, I'm going to go do it.
And then it goes in.
Was it St. Andrews?
No.
Oh, it was Scotland.
St. Andrews, yeah.
Is it?
It is notoriously very windy there.
So as the old saying goes, it ain't over till it's over.
And I guess that's the rule that you have 10 seconds or something.
That's what John had read earlier, yeah.
And then is it also, you have those coffin bunkers too,
I think, at St. Andrews.
Coffin bunkers.
So like there, you know, sand traps,
regular sand traps look like coffin bunkers are completely vertical.
So there's like no way of getting your ball out
of these coffin bunkers without like, I have to really pull off a golfer's thing
I used to be in the golf space. Oh right
I forgot about that once upon a time, man dragged you.
Yeah, that's right.
