With stories that matter to you, this is Fox 6 News at 9.
Now on Fox 6 News at 9, on the brink of history,
tonight the Brewers could punch their ticket
to the team's first World Series in 44 years.
You're looking live at fans that have gathered
in American Family Field tonight,
what they're saying here and all across the country.
Plus, a candidate to represent our area
in Congress now facing charges in a viral road rage incident.
A new video of his arrest and what both parties told police.
Let's get to those Brewers looking to make history tonight.
The last time they made it to the World Series, 1982.
And now they are just one win away.
But first, they have to defeat the back-to-back champs.
And those champs came out punching tonight.
But the Brewers have come back to score.
Four to four in the top of the sixth inning.
Another nail-biter.
We have team coverage tonight.
Sam Kramer inside American Family Field
with the biggest watch party yet.
And Abril Presiado is with fans watching at Kelly's Bleachers.
Well, first, let's go to Ted Perry
outside Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles,
where, man, the emotions in there are insane.
Ben, Murph, you're absolutely right about that.
I have a new theory.
I think the Brewers are just messing with our heads.
One-run leads or one-run deficits?
Yeah, no problem.
Two-run deficits?
No problem.
But a four-run deficit, you would have been right to say,
well, maybe it's not their night.
And then what do they do?
Brewer, baseball.
They draw walks.
They get hits.
They get on.
They move guys over, and they tie it up.
Otani with that big three-run blast in the second inning.
But they have just answered.
They've just answered in the Brewers' way.
And the fans who are in here tonight,
a lot more blue and gold in here than just all Dodger blue.
So we found a couple of fans
who had come from both Madison and Milwaukee,
and we talked to one woman from Milwaukee who just said,
you know what, I haven't been to a Brewer
game all year, and I'm getting to this one.
Tell me how it came to be that you're here in your Brewers jersey
watching what could be a potential trip to the World Series.
I think it's going to be a trip to the World Series.
Last night when they won,
and with them being out of town and winning 6-2,
I decided at 10 p.m. I couldn't miss the game.
So seven hours later, I got on a flight, and I came here
because I don't want to miss this opportunity.
That's not a direct flight, is it?
No, no. I've been traveling since 5:30 in the morning Milwaukee time.
Flew through Atlanta.
Why was it so important for you to be here?
The excitement of what the team seems to have.
They're working all together.
It's just true baseball is what you're seeing.
And it's a very different team than what I saw last year
when I saw them play the Badgers.
Different team indeed.
That three-run home run game by Otani last year,
you could just feel the life going out of the Brewers and their fans.
Not tonight, like I say, clawing back.
Amy does work for Delta, by the way,
so it was a little bit easier for her to get on a flight
or a couple flights to get out here.
It's cold a bit tonight.
We were in the 90s for earlier shows.
We're in the high 80s right now.
It's a beautiful night in Southern California.
A miserable night, weather-wise, in southeastern Wisconsin.
So, Sam Kramer, I can hang out outside all day long,
but you've been inside for good reason.
I can hardly hear you, Ted. I'm sorry.
Perhaps it's because 16,228 people
are here inside American Family Field for this watch party.
Brewers made the right decision to move it indoors.
For context, that's basically saying the entire city
of Milwaukee is here rooting on this team.
And here's what it sounded like when they first got on the board.
a couple innings ago
so that was the
reaction when Jake
Bowers and of course
it would be Jake
Bowers right scored knocked in two runs uh
with the two RBI hit down the right field line this
place had been waiting for something to cheer
and i have to tell you the only thing missing from
inside American Family Field tonight is the game itself
the entertainment team delivered they did
lineup intros at the start of this one they sang
the national anthem every concession stand is open
And the fans here have arrived.
It doesn't matter if it's cold outside.
They say tonight is the night to witness history.
I know we're going to sweep them.
I know we're going to sweep them.
And we're going to bring it home right after.
You know why.
I know because I believe in the blue crew.
This is the most calm I've ever felt.
It feels like it's just a knowing.
Like when the Packers won the Super Bowl, when the Bucs won the finals,
it's like this is the Brewers' year.
There's no doubt.
It's just, all right, we've got another day today.
Tonight's the night.
We've got to do it.
Leave it all on the field.
Leave no doubt.
I wanted these guys, they're the best in the league,
they got the payroll to show it, they got the guys to show it,
Hall of Famers all throughout, I want to take them down.
Got to beat the best to be the best.
And to beat the best, you have to have, wouldn't you know it,
right here in the middle of that, by Garrett Mitchell,
hits a solo home run, this place goes bananas,
and I want to show you, we got some friends here, what do we think?
Who cares if it's a school night, Ted, I think we're ready
to stay up as late as we need to, we'll send it back to you.
Sam, you said a few moments ago, of course it was Jake Bowers.
Garrett Mitchell heard him go deep as well.
So you can't even hear me where you are.
And we come back here to Chavez Ravine.
It got so quiet when Garrett Mitchell hit
that 3-2 pitch out into mid-center field
and over the wall for the Brewers to have their first run of the night.
This is just going as scripted for the Brewers.
Fall behind, claw back, take the lead, hold the lead.
Let's see if that plays out.
A place that equally is pretty bonkers,
I bet, after that Garrett Mitchell home run.
Kelly's Bleachers, and that's where we find Ebro Preciado.
Good evening, Ebro.
Good evening.
So, yes, as you just mentioned,
and while many in Los Angeles are hearing the Blue Crew on,
one lucky or one surprised young fan
was surprised by his parents this morning
to go at Dodger Stadium
that moment went viral
Henry, you missed the bus.
Henry, what are you doing?
I did?
Yeah, it's 6.
It's 7.30.
I was sound asleep.
I didn't even wake up once.
I have a good idea.
You know what?
Why don't you pack your bag, get some overnight clothes,
your toothbrush, your deodorant.
I'm taking you somewhere.
Why don't we go to L.A. and go to game four?
Actually?
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
The moment that was all captured.
Now, this is 12-year-old Henry Ruppel.
He is a huge Brewers fan and Wisconsin sports fan as well.
His family moved from Franklin, Wisconsin, to Nevada back in 2023.
And after watching the series, his parents tell me that they wanted
to surprise him with tickets to Game 4 of the NLCS.
Now, today, Henry and his father, Jonathan,
drove from Nevada to Los Angeles to watch the game.
And we caught up with them during their drive.
Take a listen.
Well, I thought he missed the bus.
I'm like, oh, crap.
I'm going to be so mad.
And then my dad says, you want to go to Game 4?
i'm like you're lying like you do this all the time
and then he's like he's so and it's true
and so i'm like wow we planned this last friday
um or we knew you know it was going to be three
or anything like that but we figured hey four games
that means he gets it for sure see it you
know if you you never know if there's going
to be a game five uh you know after last year so we
started looking at tickets and we uh we didn't know what to expect
because Los Angeles is a lot
more expensive usually um but uh we found some good seats up
in the up in the upper deck
that uh were within our budget
and said let's let's do this let's make an experience out of it
and it is quite a special moment between father
and son of course and the family tells me that
this is actually their very first time at Dodger Stadium as well uh
so i also got to ask henry
what would he ask his favorite player Jakub Mazurowski
and he tells me as a being a baseball
fan himself and a player as well he says
that he would ask him how what is it that makes him throw
so fast which is a million dollar question right
so obviously quite a wholesome moment for both of
them so we'll send it back to you guys having a special Fox News
Abril I love that story and I
love that they're inside watching the Brewers
with the lead all right Abril inside Kelly's
bleachers which is as loud it seems
as American Family Field uh pretty quiet Chavez Ravine Dodger
stadium behind me right now can the Brewers bullpen
do what they have done all postseason
all season long hold a lead this is where it gets fun folks depending
on your version of fun guys
I'll send it back to you in the studio
but I got a news flash I don't think that kid is going to
make the bus tomorrow morning I don't think
so either I want to be Henry tonight I want to be
Amy I want to live life like Amy just hey I got
to be in Los Angeles tomorrow I'm not sleeping
tonight i'm gonna be there yeah i
am just right make it go ahead making it happen but guys i was
thinking we're so good at waiting 31 years between
Rose Bowl appearances 50 years between bucks
championships 44 years that's enough of a time
to wait for a World Series let's get there tonight
What do you say? I think it's going to happen. It
is so remarkable how quiet it is where you are in
LA and Sam is where the party is. It is so loud. What
is 16,000, 16,000. I mean they started with
hey, we've got 12,000 and people just kept showing
up. Meanwhile, Ted Perry's at... looks like you're
at the Los Angeles Public Library. Like, turn the lights off
when you leave, right? All right, uh but
the Brewer fans, you can actually hear
the Brewer fans tonight, they're, they're much more in number
and they are much more in volume as well.
All right, Ted Perry, thanks.
We'll check back soon.
Now, if the Brewers win tonight,
it will be the first time again since 1982
that they will make the World Series.
And this morning, fans lined up outside American Family Field
to get a piece of history.
Oh boy, did they line up.
World Series tickets went on sale today.
Wisconsin residents had first dibs
four hours before the general pre-sale opened at 2 p.m.
Tickets were on sale online,
But more than 100 people still showed up in person.
You want to feel the ticket.
Right now, Game 1, 2, and 6 are sold out, including standing room only.
Limited seats available for Game 7, but the cheapest tickets
How much do you think?
I peaked earlier, and the number that's
in the prompter is even higher than that.
Okay, right now I have in the prompter $3,800.
That means my cheap $1,300 tickets have been sold.
They're unavailable.
Yeah, unavailable.
them. Wow. All right.
For more on the Brewers playoff run, visit fox6now.com or Fox Local.
There you'll find post-game coverage,
ticket information, and details on exclusive NLCS gear
if the Brewers win tonight, which again, they're winning 5-4.
Let's take a live look at the watch
party, shall we? Oh, the sausages.
They're like, let's hype it up. Not only do we want to end this
series and sweep the Dodgers, we want to make history.
If we sweep the Dodgers, this will be
the first time ever that a team that was swept comes back
and sweeps the original sweepy must
be the middle of a six
because we got a sausage race to do. We'll be back in two minutes. You're
watching Fox 6 News with Ben Handelman
and Kim Murphy. We're getting a closer look at the arrest
of a man running for Wisconsin's sixth congressional district. He
was charged after a road rage
altercation and an anti-Israel tirade caught
on camera last week. Christina Van Zelst is in the
newsroom with the new video of the arrest.
Christina. Kim, this happened back on October
8th in Mequon. We already showed you
that video of the altercation at a gas station
that led to those charges.
Now an open records request shows the interview with police from
both parties afterwards. I was heated because that was a motion.
I'm sorry. In an interview
with Mequon police, 54-year-old Matthew Arndt describes what
was going through his head
during this video.
Arndt is a candidate for Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District.
Prosecutors charged him with one count
of disorderly conduct following a road rage
incident at a Mequon gas station.
Arndt tells police he thinks he was targeted because of his
stance against Israel and he's been harassed previously.
The other driver had this bumper
sticker condemning Hamas.
I have a feeling that he went out of his way this morning to track me
possibly follow me to where my kids were.
While police interviewed the other man involved he says
he didn't know who Arndt was and thinks he was targeted
because of his bumper sticker.
That man tells police Arndt was driving aggressively
and both gave each other the finger.
This was for sure about it being Jewish,
Israel, like all of that. This was
Nothing to do with my driving.
That man, who was not charged, admits he followed Arndt
into the gas station parking lot and started recording this video.
Arndt was later arrested and charged.
Yeah, it was stupid. I shouldn't have done that.
The Wisconsin Green Party says it supports Arndt
in a statement to Fox 6 saying,
in part, we stand with Matthew Arndt,
we stand for peace, we stand for a free Palestine.
Arndt's initial court appearance is scheduled for next month.
In the newsroom, Christina VanZelst, Fox 6 News.
All right, Christina, thanks.
And let's get right to weather.
It has rained most of the day.
But guess what?
We have a nice weekend on the way, you guys.
And it is Thursday night.
You know what that means.
You ready to ride?
Oh, the sweet sound.
Here's your weekend riding forecast.
50 degrees on Friday.
and it is going to be windy
with northwest winds gusting to 40 miles per hour,
and it's going to be rainy at times as well, rain off and on.
Saturday, 55 degrees,
a morning freeze inland with a freeze watch in effect,
and then frost closer to the lake,
64 on Sunday, a lot of sunshine this weekend.
Take a look across the state here.
Look at this, sunny and 50s all across the state on Saturday,
Very chilly in the morning and very fall-like in the afternoon.
And on Sunday, highs in the 60s
with abundant sunshine across the state.
Well, as we take a look at what's going on with this freeze watch,
this is in effect for our inland communities plus Chippewa County.
And it runs from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Below 32 degrees inland, about 33 to 35 closer to the lake.
That's because the lake is still a bit warmer.
So that's why we're going to be seeing the greatest chance
for below freezing temperatures away from the lake.
All right. Let's talk rain here. We've had about six tenths
of an inch at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport today.
Chippewa County over an inch of rain.
Now we have more light rain coming through.
But you see how it's kind of breaking up a little bit here.
So it's going to be a little more spotty
and light overnight and then same with tomorrow.
So not as steady as we've had today.
But there you see the low cloudiness coming in here.
59 degrees, dew point 58.
Winds are out of the west.
Air pressure has really dropped.
And that is going to really rise over the next 24 hours.
So big swings in air pressure going on right now.
Temperatures steady in the 50s.
We'll drop into the upper 40s overnight tonight.
As we take a look at the broader view of the satellite and radar again,
And steadier rains up to the north,
lighter rains here in the southern part of the state.
It was in the low 90s in Los Angeles today.
All right, let's take a look at Sky Vision Plus.
Let's get you into your Friday here because the big story,
even starting overnight, is going to be the wind.
The wind picks up out of the northwest overnight.
Spotty rain showers, light rain during the day tomorrow.
But these wind gusts will be gusting to around 40 miles
per hour out of the north and northwest on Friday,
especially high near the lake
and during the afternoon hours watch how quick we clear out
tomorrow night then the wind dies down by saturday morning
and that is going to pave the way for
frost and a freeze on saturday morning
so again that's why the freeze watch is in effect especially
for our inland communities now what you're going
to notice here we're at 50 on friday very windy
with scattered showers. Cold on Saturday morning,
55 Saturday afternoon, 64 on Sunday, and next week
it's looking mild with temperatures in the 60s all week long.
So again, a little more rain and a lot
of wind on Friday. That's the latest from here.
Back to you in the studio. All right, thanks Tom.
First for Pleasant Prairie Police.
The new technology that finally made a debut during
police pursuit early this morning and a child
and five adults killed in a plane crash
near the dales tonight we got a new update on who
was on board a 75 year old man is dead after a
house fire in Milwaukee happened this afternoon here
this is Cody Circle right near 76th and
Green Tree Fire Chief Aaron Lipsky says
the home had cluttered conditions inside the fire was in
the bedroom. The cause of the fire,
it is still under investigation tonight. New details tonight
on the plane crash that killed six people
in Sauk County late Tuesday night. The sheriff's office
identifying the victims. Here on your screen,
the youngest victim, just 13 years old. Ronald Reich
is a licensed pilot and prominent business person
from northwest Wisconsin. The plane was headed
from Kenosha to Menominee when it crashed near the Dells.
Investigators say it happened minutes
after the pilot reported icing issues.
The Brewers battling for one final win to advance to the World Series.
Just one.
And we are more than halfway through game four.
It's the top of the seventh.
Two quick outs on the Brewers' part.
They have two outs.
We can do this.
We can do this.
And I did see Barrelman in the audience.
This is the watch party that's happening at AmFam Field.
So Barrelman is there.
I think he is the good luck charm.
We also saw Sam Kramer, who was kind of pacing back and forth.
He's nervous.
He's nervous, as we are, too.
And, of course, the Brewers have made the World Series once before.
We're going to chat with a baseball historian about that amazing run
and what makes that moment so special,
what's happening right now before our eyes.
You're watching Fox 6 News with Ben Handelman,
Kim Murphy, and Chief Meteorologist Tom Wachs.
Brewers mania continuing to take over Milwaukee.
And tonight, they are just one win away from making the World Series.
And here's a look at the score.
Right now, it is 5-4.
We're at the bottom of the seventh.
The Dodgers are at bats.
We're nine outs away.
This is what this means.
This is what this means.
The Brewers are nine outs away from the World Series.
Not that we're counting or anything.
No, but they've kept the Dodgers at four for an entire inning.
So that is good news.
We're getting closer to winning this thing.
All right, we got team coverage.
all across the country tonight.
Sam Kramer inside American Family Field
with 16,000 of his closest friends.
But first, let's go to Ted Perry outside Dodger Stadium out in L.A.
Okay, Ted, I wanted to stay quiet
because that means we're taking the fans out of the game,
the Dodger fans.
Well, yeah, it wasn't quiet about 15 seconds ago.
Pages is hitting a double for the Dodgers,
so they got a guy in scoring position with nobody out.
This thing is far from over.
Just adding to the drama that has been the Brewers' postseason,
Aaron Ashby on the mound, who's been stellar,
beyond stellar this whole postseason.
Can he overcome that blip to fight it off
and to keep the score 5-4 Brewers?
Or are the Dodgers about to tie this thing up
and make everybody from Milwaukee to Los Angeles nervous?
We'll find out. We'll keep watching.
But right now, let's go to a place where a lot of people are watching,
and they are all of the same like-minded purpose.
16,000 Brewer fans inside American Family Field.
Sam Kramer, take it away.
Yeah, hi there, Ted.
Timing is everything, right?
And, boy, are these last nine outs, or is it eight now?
Yeah, eight final outs.
As Shohei Ohtani steps into the box, boy, that is unsettling.
And you can kind of hear that here inside American Family Field.
Again, as we mentioned, 16,228 people.
It's about the size of Pewaukee or Oconomowoc or Whitewater,
which makes sense in the volume that you have heard from this crowd.
Not in the first inning, not in the second inning,
but in the middle of this game when the Brewers,
of last year's nickname that Murphy gave them, the Woodpeckers,
just kept pecking their way back into this game, now into the lead
and in a position where the Brewers would love this place to go
in terms of their pitching.
Aaron Ashby on the mound.
Maybe you don't use Abner Uribe tonight,
but you do have Trevor McGill waiting, and excuse me,
as I look over my shoulder to see what is happening.
I've been talking with people,
and it is a little bit of putting the cart before the horse.
But World Series tickets, we've been talking about,
went on sale today.
A lot of lucky folks were able to get them
paying a lot of money to be able to see history on this field
if it goes that way.
But talking with some Brewers fans said that,
you know what, they really want this to happen
as the Brewers strike out Shohei Ohtani, big one.
They really want this to happen
because 44 years is such a long wait.
My old man says that he was at UWM at the time
and he didn't jump on the $24 tickets
because he didn't have the cash for it,
but to think here we are now 44 years later, it's
really exciting.
I'm pumped.
And in fact, Ted, some woman that was coming
in right as the gates opened at 530 showed
me a photo on her cell phone.
Two standing room tickets for the 1982 World Series.
One was $8, the other was $12.
I asked her, did you look at what the prices were today?
She said, yeah.
And I said, you know what, just keep walking.
We don't need to talk about it.
Hopefully they can get there, and then we can confront that later.
Just for the record, two things for you, Ted.
One, I was able to find Barrelman.
We played that for you at 6.
I walked up to him, and I said, do you know what I have to ask you?
Nodded his head.
I think he might have patted the barrel,
touched my nose, and we got on with it.
That was good.
And number two, the great shot that Amazon Prime had
from the Packers-Falcons game a couple weeks back
when the Packers fan is checking her pulse,
I feel like that's perhaps me
and everyone else that's in here right now.
Yeah, throw me into that group as well, Sam.
A lot of Dodger fans, guys.
Thanks, Sam.
I'm going to let you go because I know Sam can't even hear me
with all that madness at American Family Field.
And now we come back out here where it's quiet.
Dodger fans, you're not going to see
a single Brewer fan leave this stadium
until the last out and then probably
not for a good half hour to 45 minutes after that.
they're going to let them stay hopefully like they did in San Diego
and just watch their team
go out on the field and celebrate
with their families it's always a great moment so we're
going to try to capture that if the Brewers indeed hang
on to this lead which the bullpen
is desperately trying to do but guys Dodger fans are leaving in dribs
and drabs and I just saw
father and his son walk by they took a picture next
to a big bobblehead here and the little kid
looked to be second or third grade
and I said you got school tomorrow he goes yeah and his dad goes
And he's got homework tonight, so we're out of here.
Good luck, Milwaukee, he said.
And so they're leaving a little bit.
And there we go.
More people taking pictures in front of the bobblehead.
That's the story here, guys.
We come back at 10.
I don't think we'll be much closer to a resolution, a final resolution.
But we're going to stay with you every step of the way.
Sounds good.
I had my finger on my nose when Aaron Ashby was pitching,
struck out Shohei Ohtani.
It's working.
It's working.
All right, Ted.
Stand by.
Whatever it is you've got to do.
Thanks, Ted.
We'll come back to you in a moment here.
The shortstop, yeah,
the players may
not survive
the clubhouse
as the Milwaukee baseball fans who have not had this kind of a day
since the Milwaukee Braves played here back in the 60s.
What a moment.
That was reaction after the Brewers made the World Series in 1982.
Tonight, we're hoping that they do the same.
Joining us now to talk about the historic run
and what it could look like this time around,
it is local baseball historian Dennis Degenhardt
from the local chapter of the Society of American Baseball Research.
Dennis, how are you feeling right now with this crazy game going on?
I'm not hearing you real well. I'm not sure why.
Oh, no. OK, we'll try and fix our audio here.
Are you able to hear me now, Dennis?
And if you're not, we'll try and fix it
and we'll come back to you in a second here.
And I'm guessing from your face, you're not hearing us real well.
So why don't we do that for a second?
We'll check our audio levels.
We'll check back with Dennis.
Different time back in 1982, though, where the fans rushed the field.
There was no security or very little stopping them.
I don't think you could stop that.
I don't think that would happen today.
And the players seem to enjoy it.
All right, so we'll try and get with Dennis in a second.
The Brewers are getting closer and closer to this historic run.
Hey, for more on the Brewers' playoff run,
make sure you download Fox6Now.com or your Fox local app.
That's the most important thing you can do right now
because you can do two-screen watching here.
You can watch all of the live action as fans
are going bonkers as you're watching the game.
And that watch party, which is 16,000 people,
you're like, I want to be there.
We're going to take you there right after this.
Can be tough.
That's why Fox 6 Sense is here
to help you make smarter financial decisions.
It's a type of graduate program for higher earnings.
The changes you can make today to put more change in your pocket.
Real advice for real life.
Fox 6 Sense, next on Fox 6 News.
Last time we
were in the World Series, 1982.
We're hoping to do the same tonight.
And joining us to talk about the historic run that happened
and the one that may be taking place
that we're going to talk about for decades,
it's baseball historian Dennis Degenhardt,
again from the local chapter of the Society
of American Baseball Research.
i think we fixed our audio issues now dennis how
are you feeling right now as a huge baseball fan
you know starting last night something changed in me uh usually
when they fall behind in a ball
game i panic and last night
when we fell behind i thought good we have them where we want them
and they scored runs and won well we did that again tonight uh
and i don't want to get cocky
on this but i just feel like maybe you know we have
to fall behind to win these ball games so
So we've got two innings to go, inning and a half to go,
so we'll soon find out if I'm going to be a nervous wreck.
So let's talk about the history that could potentially be made
if the Brewers sweep the Dodgers, who swept them last year.
That's never happened.
Right. It's amazing.
And then to have the two of us play and do that,
and then, you know, if you look at the beginning of the season,
the Dodgers were picked by everybody.
There were people who said, why are we playing this season?
Just give them the trophy.
and it's it's been an amazing year from from the brewers yeah you know
and and they're they're
playing dodger baseball they're hitting the home runs
and uh and they're playing our small ball
which is very interesting in itself what's
been so fun about today is a look back at history because
so many people we've talked about the year 1982 for decades
and decades that was a crazy time can
you talk a little bit about that team
and obviously different times we're talking about
some of the ticket prices people are paying
to the world series back then eight bucks to get in
you showed the game five of the alcs before
and that still gives me goosebumps when i see that i
was at the ball game it was the most exciting ball game ever
that was a team of characters
they're uh they're a fun group of people they had fun they
also are i think similar to this team
they were pretty tight
as a unit they they got along well they did stuff together
and that's what the current brewers are like they're a very close bond
and it's not hurting
that's for sure it uh it uh
and it's been well the franchise has been in existence for 57 years
so we're the second longest franchise along with the Padres
because we both came in the
major leagues at the same time um the only team
that's been longer is Cleveland there could be a
chance of Milwaukee and Cleveland battle
for who can get get to change that so Dennis uh we asked
how you felt the beginning of this interview now we're
at the bottom of the eighth still five to
four how are you feeling
is this the game last temperature check yeah how are you feeling uh
Ashby's still in there I'm I'm I'm feeling pretty good
the the Brewer fans we've got really great
fans here and it's it's i'm happy for everybody here
in the city we're going to we're going to
celebrate this and we deserve it okay you heard it straight
from the mouth of dennis thanks so
much for joining us that was a fun look back uh with the video
and hearing your stories as well
thanks for joining us here
on fox six thank you go brewers all right we got to talk about our morning
kickoff because that is happening tomorrow it's going
to be a big morning for us as once again
we're taking the road we're taking wake up
on the road we got two great schools racine case and
indian trail and we've got a great wake up team
to help kick us off at 6 a.m big match up under
the friday night lights so we'll have your football teams
your marching bands your cheerleaders and so
much more a group of people in waukesha
are continuing their financial education through
a unique graduate program Brett Lemoine explains how they
are staying ahead with help from strangers
in this month's Fox 6 Cents.
Good evening, everyone.
Thank you for being here.
Once a month, this room at Waukesha's
First United Methodist Church is packed.
It's filled with dozens of people
looking to continue their financial education.
I actually heard about it from a friend.
Kim, who asked we not use her last name
for privacy reasons,
is in the Staying Ahead program
offered by St. Vincent de Paul of Waukesha County.
I was able to get some financial guidance
with my mom, which is good,
because not everybody has that.
So I did have that, but everybody still, like, I still went through
different times in my life being a single parent where I struggled.
It was impossible not to.
Kim previously completed a 16-session course called Getting Ahead.
We profiled that group last year on Fox 6 Sense.
Participants spent months putting together a personal financial plan.
When they finish, they have an opportunity
to continue on for another year in staying ahead.
Even when people sign up for this workshop, we'll have people say,
I don't have anyone I can list as my emergency contact.
By the end of this, not only do they have an emergency contact, they
have a mentor, they have a team who is celebrating their successes.
Community Initiatives Director Jody LaChapelle says
the big difference in the graduate program
is that each participant is paired with a mentor.
They really help you stay focused, keep you on track,
and you're not, it's like a little boost when you just need it.
You know, when you're ready to be like, OK, I did enough for this week.
Then I'm like, well, I know I'm going
to see her, you know, in a couple of days.
It's that accountability.
I better make sure I'm working on this.
Brett Lemoine takes us to the graduation that's paying off.
When our original report aired, it had an impact we weren't expecting.
I had heard about the program and I was just recently retiring
and thought I come from a financial background.
Jan Brezina was watching,
and the next day called St. Vincent de Paul to become a volunteer.
She wanted to share her decades of knowledge
from working in banks with others.
Listening to the stories from the different people,
and they come from all walks of life,
they are extremely creative in making ends meet.
I think if everybody took a little bit of time
to connect with somebody that's struggling,
we would be in a better world.
Lynn Tompich is another mentor with the program.
Yeah, I think it's actually easier to sit down
and work with a stranger,
if you want to say stranger.
You slowly become friends.
If you're faith-based,
one of the major commandments is love your neighbor as yourself.
Well, who's your neighbor to meet everybody?
Some of the people Tompich mentors are trying to overcome homelessness,
credit card debt or simply managing expenses,
each mentor encourages participants to set
SMART goals. SMART is an acronym
and something each of us can incorporate into our own financial
plans. Specific, measurable, achievable,
related to the goal, and time-bound. We want to avoid it
being like a New Year's resolution where you say,
this year I'm going to make more money. Well,
what does that look like? How much more?
And where's that money going to go? And how are you
going to do it. And so that's where having mentors
who can walk with them in that process is really
helpful. September monthly meeting for the graduate program.
LaChapelle says 150 people have taken the
Staying Ahead support program, and of those 150,
a dozen have returned to take leadership positions
like facilitators and mentors.
Kim has a goal to become a homeowner. They're giving up their time
to come through a program like this.
It's appreciated. It's valued. It's appreciated. And
They're part of my growth.
She says these mentors impact her, which has a direct effect
on Kim's kids, her family, her neighborhood, and community.
Our whole goal for St. Vincent de Paul here
is neighbors helping neighbors.
We know that we can make this progress, right?
With photojournalist Eddie Poser in Waukesha,
Brett Lemoine, Fox 6 News.
Next month, we are seeing how students
are applying real-world money management skills in the classroom,
of how learning finances at a young age can help develop
a lifetime of good habits.
That's in November on Fox 6 News.
Let's get to the chief meteorologist
because it is soggy out there, Tom.
It is soggy, guys.
In fact, about six-tenths of an inch
of rain today in Milwaukee at the airport
over an inch in places like Sheboygan and Random Lake.
Let me show you what's going on with a look at a freeze watch.
We had a record high on Monday and now a freeze watch Saturday morning.
Welcome to Wisconsin in October.
This freeze watch, 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, mainly for inland areas.
Sheboygan County, you're included in this as well.
Frosty near the lake, a freeze inland,
about 30 to 35 degrees on the average,
35 closer to the lake, 30 degrees inland.
So again, first freeze on the way Saturday morning.
Before we get there, the rain has gotten lighter tonight,
and we will continue to see just a couple
of light rain showers overnight.
The big story now becomes the wind,
and that wind is going to be picking up.
A sign that the dew points are still high,
the low cloudiness over downtown.
58 dew point, 57 winds are out of the west.
Dew points will be dropping overnight.
Air pressure continuing to fall.
We're going to see a big rise in air pressure by tomorrow night.
So we've had big swings in air pressure here over the last 24 hours,
and it will continue for the next 24 hours.
So if you're feeling maybe a little off,
could be why, or maybe it's the Brewers too,
because we're all just so excited, right, with the Brewers tonight too.
but maybe the air pressure. That could be something too.
Temperatures in the 50s across
the board tonight will drop into the upper 40s overnight here.
Looking up to the north
already in the 40s, Rhinelander and Wausau.
So now we're getting in on the back side of this
system that will shift our wind around to the northwest.
Notice that this is the big storm
system in the country right now.
Let's take a look at Sky Vision Plus. Talk more about what
we're expecting here. And as we go through the overnight,
you'll notice the wind starts to pick
up out of the northwest just a couple of light rain showers overnight
and then for our Friday
on and off rain showers during the day light rain primarily
but it's the wind that's going to gust
to 40 miles per hour especially by afternoon
and especially near the lake light rain showers
continue into the late afternoon
and then look at how quickly we clear out so the big story again
tomorrow is the wind combined
with a few rain showers clearing out tomorrow night then the wind
will die down by Saturday morning
and that's what's going to allow these temperatures to drop
to between 30 and 35 on Saturday morning abundant sunshine over
the weekend 55 on Saturday 64 and
windy on Sunday and look at this mild next week highs in the 60s
and no major storm systems in
sight well that's the latest from here back to you
in the studio all right Tom thanks new at nine
the Pleasant Prairie Police Department announcing
for the first time they've used their grappler
system to stop a fleeing suspect.
It was early this morning on Highway 50. Look at this,
like something out of a Batman movie.
Bet you didn't know they had that. The netting comes
off the front of the squad
and essentially it entangles the fleeing car's axle, bringing it
almost immediately to a stop. It's tethered to the front of the squad.
Fun fact, Pleasant Prairie is
the second agency in Wisconsin to have
the grappler the other is Monona PD who also used
theirs successfully let's take another live look
at the watch party okay we think this could wrap up
fingers crossed touching your noses in the next 10 minutes
the Brewers have done really really
well and keeping the Dodgers holding them
at four Aaron Ashby did phenomenal Trevor McGill will pitch
eventually we're guessing in the night
but first the Brewers are going to bat and as soon as the
game ends stick here because our extended coverage we're just going
to bounce around and talk to a
whole bunch of Brewers fans win or lose we're hoping it's win
though stay with us here on Fox
Fox 6 News at nine Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs
and his ex-girlfriend filed separate
lawsuits against the Holbert Lawrence police department they
are trying to prevent the
release of video from when they got into a fight back
in May the video release was sealed
until Jacobs pled no contest to two misdemeanors in September Fox 6
and other media and the NFL
have filed open record requests asking for the video.
Jacobs doesn't want the video out,
citing concerns for his personal safety and property.
An O'Connell Milwaukee Chinese restaurant voluntarily shuts down
after a customer found bugs in their takeout container.
The customer sharing these photos of his walnut shrimp order with us.
He also called the Waukesha County Health Department.
Today they came out, they did an inspection.
Inspectors said there were problems with refrigeration temperatures
and noted a lot of flies in the restaurant.
The owner threw out the food
and blamed a voltage problem with a city transformer last month
for causing equipment failure in the restaurant.
And I'm surprised to see that picture in the photo.
Makes me not want to eat there ever again,
but hopefully they can clean it up and make the best of it.
We reached out to the owner. We haven't heard anything.
The city says there was a problem
with the transformer on September 29th
and notified businesses in advance that power would be turned off.
It was restored later that morning.
