AI GeneratedBassey's Taste of Country in Colgate, Wisconsin, hosts an annual Pumpkin Fest designed to reconnect modern society with agricultural life. The event offers a wide array of family-friendly autumn activities, including pumpkin and apple picking, a Shrek-inspired corn maze, interactive machinery, and various animal encounters, providing a comprehensive seasonal experience for all generations.
Well, fall fun is in full swing, and one local farm is celebrating
the season with pumpkins and plenty of family-friendly activities.
Brian Cramp is at Bassey's Taste of Country with a look at everything
that makes their annual Pumpkin Fest a popular fall tradition.
Hey, Cramp.
Derek, I'll tell you what, this is it, right?
I mean, there's a little breeze in the air today that's kind of brisk,
to be honest with you.
It's going to warm up a little bit later on, but fall weather
is officially here, and fall fun has been here for the past month.
Roger, congratulations on another season you guys
as a family have been out here for more than 25
years what do you think keeps keeps you going
to continue with this not just as a farmer but as
somebody that's inviting people to your farm yeah it's it's
the people that come out to the farm we
really like to see the families come out
and experience farming a little bit and go into the
fields get a little mud get a little bit get
a pumpkin get an apple get a strawberry but it's
all about it's all about the people i mean
obviously it's like it's not my farm it's their
farm. It's about them, our customers, our guests.
We don't have a farm, you know, so that's what
keeps us going, is just seeing people, kids,
come out and just have a great time. Right, and you
know that as a grandparent, as a family man,
and somebody that's grown up on the farm, really,
you know, one of the things that stands out to me
is the fact that you're not only allowing them
on the land, but you're allowing them to go pick the pumpkin.
You're allowing them to go pick the
apples you're allowing them to to have a plethora
of options here how many different varieties of
pumpkins you think you have roughly oh roughly probably about 10
to 12 okay different varieties
of pumpkins and yeah we grow like almost 30 acres
of pumpkins 30 acres yeah 30 acres holy cow wow
so i and i like that you have some picked already
so we don't have to go out to the farm to get our
shoes muddy right you don't want to but i think
that experience you know for for a child is
something that they're they're going to remember
and we talked about that a little bit earlier on
off camera is that as a grandparent you understand what it's like
to be present in your grandkids
lives and I think this family atmosphere
that you've created it has allowed that to happen for
so many other families but it's not just picking pumpkins
or picking apples or going into the store
it's the fun and it's the park over there there's
a lot going on what have you added this year that
maybe wasn't there in previous years
or what's what's new what can people look forward to yeah
we always try to like improve you know listen
to our guests coming out you know we added a dig
zone which is kind of excavators and and grapples
and everything so people can actually get the feel
of that which they normally don't get to do yeah yeah
and we'll show you them later on everything
like that i love it but uh yeah it's it's just
the experience of every little thing has a little
twist yeah and brings a culture back
into their lives yeah you had log rolling you got a dog show
We're gonna see the dogs today. You got a corn maze.
Yeah, we got to check out this corn maze real quick a Shrek
inspired corn maze
Oh yeah, you gotta bring everything here. Who did that one for ya?
Oh, we all you know Sarah and I do it,
you know, we design and everything like that
And then actually my son-in-law he actually has corn planters
that precision precision plant
Yeah
Where it plants where you don't want it to plant
and it'll like where a paths are and where you do want to plant it
That it does it all just on its own. That's awesome.
I love that you really get into it, too
It seems like you and the family have fun doing it as well.
Today, you are actually open starting at what time?
Noon to 6 today.
Okay.
Weather permitting.
Weather permitting.
And always check out, of course, Bossy's social media pages
and, of course, give them a call for those hours as well.
I'll tell you what, Roger, this is just phase one.
It's still a little dark out.
We're going to go all around the grounds
today here at Bossy's Taste of Country
and see what's going on for Pumpkin Fest in Colgate, Wisconsin.
But clearly, they have plenty of pumpkins
to choose from here at Bossy's.
Thanks, Roger.
Thank you.
Pumpkins and the white ones are cool.
You have a huge variety there. All right, Brian, thanks.
Okay, folks, we are looking ahead.
All right, welcome back, everybody.
So from pumpkins to some serious heavy machinery,
there's a lot more than just a trip to the pumpkin patch
when you go to Bassie's Taste of Country.
And nobody knows that better than our Brian Cramp.
He's live in Colgate this morning where
he's checking out some of the fun
that your family can have on the farm. This is not your
Oh my goodness, Nicola, this is pretty awesome.
I got to tell you, I didn't know when Roger earlier on said,
when I asked him what's new and he said diggers.
Well, I didn't know that we were going
to actually be sitting in a digger right there
and then also dropping the payload, if you will.
I know it's just gravel,
but it's super cool to just sit in this and to get hands-on, Roger,
and also kind of understand how these machines work.
And that's something that you and I were talking about.
a lot of people are disconnected from the farm
in general never been on a farm you're really giving
people an opportunity to kind
of see what it's all about yet still have fun right i mean people like
they uh everybody used to live on a farm
to survive them to grow their own stuff to milk
their own cows and have their own thing
and then after after years go by maybe you have an uncle
or an aunt or a grandfather that still had a farm
but yeah more and more people are disconnected
from the farm so we try to bridge that gap
a little bit to have them do some things they
normally like our crank the tractor
or little things that people get to come out and experience
and get to see what farming
is really all about yeah it's it's pretty cool also that you have
some of those old tractors that are actually
been turned into slides yeah for the kids as well i
mean it just has the look uh it has the feel
but also the experience that a lot of people i think
are looking for when it comes to you know really enjoying
a fall activity now now for me i've never
sat in a real digger how realistic
is this because i can feel like yeah this could be challenging for
somebody that's trying it out for the first time
but also very fun because you get used to it and
then you know how the equipment works oh yeah it's it's kind
of very realistic you know my son-in-law
actually has an excavating business okay yeah he runs
these things all the time and he says yeah
Yeah, they're pretty good.
They're pretty realistic and everything.
It gives them the opportunity to see what it is to actually dig
or move or what these guys do all day long.
And I might have a kid that, like, I really enjoy this,
and maybe I'll be, that's my career later on.
That's what I'm thinking, too.
Or maybe I really enjoy it.
Yeah, maybe, Brian,
you're going to quit your job and you're going to go,
I should probably take this up, right?
Yeah, you're going to get an excavation business.
I got some land that needs to be moved.
I would love to be able to move that.
All right, so you guys open at what time today?
We open at noon today.
Okay.
Weather permitting to six.
Okay.
Well, weather permitting, obviously,
there is going to be some inclement weather.
There might be some wind as well.
So, as always, kind of just check out,
you know, their social media pages.
And I like that it's on a timer as well,
so we can then get off, let the next person get on,
and then, of course, get to the next activity,
where there's always something to do.
I believe this year they have a dog show, guys,
and we're going to see maybe a little bit of what that's all about
when we come back next year in Colgate.
Bossy's Taste of Country.
Roger, thank you for allowing us to be a part
of your farm out here this morning.
More Fox 6 Wake Up coming back after the break, guys.
Well, there is no shortage of things to see and do at Pumpkin Fest,
and part of the fun is making a whole day out of your visit.
Brian Cramp is at Bossy's Taste of Country
with a look at what families can expect
when they head out to the farm.
Good morning, Cramp.
Good morning.
They can expect a fresh drink of water is what they can expect.
one of the things roger you guys do so well
is continue to grow uh not only the fun factor but
also the the um i guess what's available to your guests
and one of the things that they said is
that we need water along the way look
at you guys yeah we always try to try to their experience make
exceed their experience so they have a good time here
and everything yeah and one thing we
heard of would you is there a bubbler there
this and it's like no we don't have a bubbler it's a
farm out here you know right now we're
not in the middle of the city this is
farm life yeah but we wanted
to give them the opportunity to you know
have a fill up a water jug it's
a big thing you know bringing a water jug in
here and on a warmer day it's you know
yeah it goes goes away you don't have
fresh water the bubbles have just
started what is this thing like go off
every two minutes every two minutes yeah
these are bubbles for kids they got foam
inside they're kind of different unique oh wait
a second here so if you pop it
Oh, I got it. There's a little fog inside of there.
Awesome. You know, as you walk around,
it seems like you guys have a fun time,
but you also employ, what, how many people? 100? 100-plus?
Yeah, we employ 130-plus people here, you know, each year.
And a lot of, you know, it's a part-time business and everything.
Yeah, part-time business.
Yeah, part-time business, yeah.
It's a small window,
but you have also activities for your small guests as well,
whether it's shooting baskets shooting football through
the holes and animals
talk about the animals that you have
over there in that barn oh yeah we got
goats we got sheep we got donkey we got small cow
and llamas and yeah all kinds
of animals here farm animals plus ducks chickens yeah
and stuff too earlier on I
said something about a dog show which
we're gonna get to a little bit later on
today but you guys had a show last weekend I saw
as the log rollers were
out now so the entertainment kind
of changes from week to week a little bit
and some of it stays the same yep every
weekend we have a different entertainment
coming in yes this weekend have
that stunt show entertainer come in and do a
lot of stunts yeah he doesn't pull
the crowd out you guys have this going today
it opens up back up at noon not every activity
is gonna be open today but then
Friday Saturday and Sunday is when everything yes part of the customer
experience we're listening to our customers and what they think is like
during the weekdays we didn't have
everything open because we didn't have
enough help and everything like
that so we try to like okay how can we do fix
this problem yeah so we're doing Friday
as like a weekend also so we have
everything open on Friday as normal
and everything all the shows and the dog
show and everything open well we appreciate
that and given it's more time
to be out on the farm here Bossy's Taste
the country out in Colgate Wisconsin
guys fall fun is happening out here
and it looks like those animals are pretty happy they're waking
up more foxes wake up coming back after
the break new today a day with the kids at Bossy's
farm can tire anybody out
but it's a good thing that there's plenty of caffeine in some of their
new drinks i love this cramp we've got a pumpkin patch
that has coffee as if we needed another
reason to love this place right i know like let's just look
at this what is this thing sarah what
where are we in right now the greenery hold
on a second well i need to go out to see because i want
one of these in my backyard uh is that possible can you make
this happen i can i can help you
so you guys cut cut a hole in this thing yep we cut a hole into it
and then we put a roll-up door
in it to have people be able to experience being in a greenery
and how it looks inside because
this is where the usually the cornhole is genius
and look at this over here so the greenery also
serve some signature drinks hot chocolate
or hot caramel apple lattes yes my goodness the last year
did you have this so we added it last year okay
so not everyone knew it at first yeah um so we
have a lot of different coffees for people
in the morning that want some kick right right and then
also we have kid options as well we have like
a steam cake uh steam uh for the kids where you can
have like that pumpkin latte kind of vibe
and then our signature drink right now is you get a mug and
every year i make it a little bit different yeah
so last year was an orange mug and now it's more
fun so it's a collectible it is a collectible i like
and but but also i mean i would walk around
and put my coffee in this every morning
but good that's a hefty cup so for you guys i'm gonna put
that down because i want to break it i feel like i feel like i need
to pick from the list here
pumpkin pie latte caramel apple latte yeah regular latte what time
do you guys start serving these
when you're open then right away at 10
o'clock right away at 10 o'clock so it's kind of funny
in the morning you can just tell everyone comes
down here right away and then afternoon you know
people are doing other items
and then later in the afternoon it comes back for a little bit of
warmth but um no this is a popular spot
if you can find it right by the red smiley barn now you
say every day i tell it when you're open at 10 o'clock
but today you're open at noon are you
is this going to be available this will
be available friday saturday and sunday um from
10 a.m to 6 p.m to get all these goodies um in here
but yes mondays and tuesdays we do not
have it serving um at that time i love it okay
do you have a favorite yeah which one is your
favorite oh the donuts and not only the yeah
but i really do love my signature drink
that one right there wait a second here the fact
that you're topping it with a donut just
equally as naughty grab those donuts really quick
because these are available also in your store
yep on fridays and through sundays um not mondays
and thursdays but right away at 10 o'clock we'll
have our fresh donuts and friday through sunday okay
and you also have the fresh apple cider
as well so many good adult beverages
not just coffee guys oh these are so good though not just
coffee so the adult beverages as well
so guys if you're coming out to Bossy's Taste of Country
just want to keep you updated yeah the coffee drinks will
be here if you need a little something
extra on that friday saturday sunday morning
but also the adult beverages for the afternoon if you
need to get by with the kiddos
and you know sarah sometimes you just need a little something extra
just a little kick but that's why we're all here
for all generations to enjoy because we know
that just because it's a coffee mug doesn't mean there's coffee
in it unless unless we're at work
and then there's coffee yeah sure that's true
um let's rob what starting stuff what let's
well fall fun is in full swing
and one local farm is celebrating the fall with all sorts of fun
Brian Cramp is at Bossy's Taste of Country previewing
this weekend's activities and i hope
you still have that furry friend nearby oh without
a doubt two uh three of them actually we're gonna
get to see all three of the dogs
because they put on quite the show sarah when did this edition this
this was this year this year i mean they've been with us for 10 years
but this edition is new for
us so super exciting this is tigger look look
at tigger go that is super fast for a golden is that
yeah that is my gosh my in-laws goldens don't move like
that they must be pretty trained or there's a
treat at the end of it somewhere there
is a treat now how often does this happen yes we get to see
them yep they're on fridays saturday
and sundays there's two shows on friday the first one would
be at 12 30 and then on sunday or saturdays
and sundays the first one would be at i think it's
it's a little 12 15. Okay. And Tigger moves.
Now this isn't just like the obstacle course
because there's an, Oh, wait a second.
You have dock diving too. Oh yeah. And this one is wish
doing some dock diving. And by the way, this is a heated pool.
Yes. I buried. Yes. I heard that
it hit 86 the other day. I want to swim in that thing.
Same here. Lake water. Yes. All right. So
wish is gonna leap yeah I understand
that that the dogs can jump more than 20
oh that was a good that was the first one of the day 15 16
or so yeah so this
is kind of a continuous thing correct
there's always something going on I
guess how long is that performance
though about 30 minutes that they do so
yeah it's a pretty long one they do a lot
of agility they teach people how the
dogs you know do their scent tricks
and all that kind of stuff and then they do
a dock diving so it's a lot of fun
and then they get to meet and greet with the
dogs at the end. Oh, really? Yes, they're super fun.
Oh, that was like 21 feet. Was that still Wish?
I think it was still Wish. Wish has got some ups.
So this is a smaller pool. In real competition, it's a lot longer.
So they're not showing their real potential.
Okay, well, I think the potential may be seen here with Twist
because Wish is now back on the leash.
Twist is on the dock. Twist wants to go.
I wish I could color commentate, you know, dog diving.
because this is amazing i know i
also have to say this too you have animals on the farm yeah there
are there are opportunities for kids to pet animals
on the farm feed animals and thank you
for that for including that feature here we go there we go twist
with the launch that might have
been that might have been I don't know it's pretty close
and anyone who stands by the
corn maze they sure definitely get a little drenched
this past weekend they loved it because
hold them down yeah and there are bleachers out here too there
is a path as well that's accessible
as you'll see that and plus
when you're out here you can bring your beverage with you i went for
the hot apple cider you can see that it's ready
to go steaming in my cup for a cold fall day but
you guys are back open at noon today this part
of the event happens friday saturday and sunday
so not today sarah always great seeing you
and the family taste the country i'll tell you what
Twist, you did a great job.
Keep it going.
Let's see another one.
In three, two, and one.
Well, I'm keeping my Brewer's Windbreaker on here
because as fall-like temperatures return,
we've got to take advantage of it.
And what better way to do that than with a popular fall tradition?
Brian Cramp joining us live after spending this morning
at Bassie's Taste of Country Pumpkin Fest.
There is so much to do there, Brian.
Oh my goodness, not enough time in one day
to hit up everything that they have there.
And I'm kind of glad that they opened up on different days as well.
Like today, they open up at noon.
Not all the activities can be used today,
but then they're back on Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday, weather permitting, with everything open.
So Brian, what was your favorite attraction that you got to see?
The dogs.
I didn't even realize that they were doing that.
But the pumpkins are great, obviously.
The apples are great.
the pumpkin picking all the drinks
and everything i was really impressed by the dogs and the way
that they've been able to incorporate animals
into this family fun fest pumpkin fest here at
Bossy Farms and those are running only on a weekend
so that's one of those weekend attractions
if you're going today you're not going to see the dogs
but you're still going to have access
to all the activities and i was glad to hear
that they heat up the water because i was thinking oh
it's got to be a little chilly.
But no, those dogs are just fine. They were like fighting over
who got to do these jumps.
So I know that they are loving that dive experience. That surprised me.
But what surprised you most about just the overall experience here?
You know, I've been there with my own son and wife.
And as the years go on, one of the things
that I've always noticed with the family
at Bossy's is that they care about the families
that are coming in they want that to be a tradition
for families as they're growing older as well
and it's never surprising to see that but it
is surprising to see how they grow and how they add
things not just for kids from the animals
and what kind of activities they have but also for
the entertainment as well they had a log rolling
this past weekend uh they have some senior
songwriters as well then they have you know drinks for mom
and dad then they have these new diggers
which were pretty awesome uh those right there i think
in the dig zone probably will be that
activity that mom dad and son daughter probably try out the most
because it is unique brian it
looks like so much fun i hope the apple cider tasted
as good as it looked and i think people
are going to be able to just make a full day out of this experience
and it's starting to feel like
fall so we want to celebrate fall here's
our opportunity at pumpkin fest thanks so much brian
We've got more wake-ups coming up after this.
Thank you.
