It's hard to have
a frown on your face
when you hear the Dapper Dans.
They've been making spirits bright for decades now.
55 years, in fact, the Disney's Barbershop Quartet has brought magic
and music to Main Street, USA.
But keeping tune with a four-part harmony takes rhythm,
heart, and even a family legacy.
Fox 35's Stephanie Buffa Monti shows us what it takes
to hit every note without missing a beat.
Since Walt Disney World opened 55 years ago,
the Dapper Dans have been bringing music here to Magic Kingdom,
but let's leave the singing to them.
Let me call you sweetheart, I'm in love with you.
A barbershop quartet with a whole lot of heart. There?
The Dapper Dans!
Every day, the Dapper Dans fill Main Street,
USA with acapella music while hitting all the right notes.
Sing some great music to do fun, goofy things,
but to touch people in a different way.
And making this music means working together with every voice
and every note in sync.
We have to trust each other in the Dapper Dans.
Not only are we doing four-part harmony,
but we also have our chimes for a lot of the songs,
and we play all eight notes of the major scale.
And these chimes are pretty unique.
They date all the way back to the year Walt Disney was born.
in 1901. So of course I had to try my hand at it.
Almost. There you go. They're doing that
all while tapping too. Right, left, right, left, right, left.
You will always put your best foot forward here
because you know everybody that produces you and
everyone that will come after
The Dapper Dans has been here since Disney opened. When you come
here every day and you're
on Main Street what brings you joy smiles i mean really smiles are
the best thing and and it's everywhere i mean even
when we're just on the trolley starting our first
sets of the day and as they sing and smile
in harmony for one Dapper Dan the connection runs
even deeper he's carrying on a family legacy
m-i-c-k-y-m-o-u-s-e i feel like i was given one
duty on this earth and that was to make people laugh
and make people smile and I'm happy to keep
doing it. My dad did it and I'm happy to keep doing it as well.
John Barnick's dad Don was a
Dapper Dan before he retired.
He was like my superhero growing up as a kid. I went one day I
want to do that so I'm very thankful I get to.
And John's first time wearing that striped vest
while singing at Magic Kingdom is something he'll never forget.
Being able to perform for my dad and
Him watching from the curb
when I used to watch him from the curb was very surreal
because I know not many people get to say that, so it was very special.
For 55 years, the Dapper Dans have been entertaining guests
and striking a chord with generations of families visiting the parks,
bringing harmonies, smiles, and a little pixie dust to Main Street USA
that will continue for many years to come.
Getting to share a craft that people aren't familiar with is fantastic.
Thank you so much, everyone.

Love the family tradition behind that.
I do, too, and I love how Disney really appreciates their history,
embraces it, and talks about it.
Those chimes she showed that are, she said,
from Walt Disney's birth year, that's amazing.
Yeah, 55 years, though, they've been singing.
Yeah.
Sounding good.
It's an iconic sound.
Yeah.
