After three water outages and multiple boil water notices,
Groveland city leaders are now looking for solutions.
At a second public workshop, officials reviewed a five-year plan
to upgrade aging equipment and improve the city's water system.
Here's Alexis Clevenger with that.
City leaders in Groveland are working
on a plan to help keep the water flowing.
At a public workshop today,
they talked about what their long-term solutions are going to be
to make sure another disruption doesn't happen again.
Three water outages, multiple boil water notices.
Now, Groveland officials want to know what went wrong
and how to prevent it from happening again.
Now, the first incident was a result of a software failure.
The program had locked
in on a ground storage tank elevation at 30 feet.
As the demand was pulling the tank down,
the level was frozen at 30 feet by the software.
And the second time, another system error took place.
The second incident, when we went ahead and replaced that transducer,
when the new transducer was plugged in,
that it automatically said the tank was at zero.
But moving forward...
We've got five new floats in the tank.
The installation is supposed to be completed today.
We'll start testing today. We'll test all day tomorrow
to make sure all our pumps are responding appropriately.
The third incident was a 16-inch water main break.
Both ends of the pipe had been compromised due to poor installation.
In the long term, there is a five-year capital plan
targeting aging equipment across all treatment plants.
They also want better tasting and better looking water.
And the council is now also considering having someone come
in to check the conditions of all of the pipes as well.
