Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked strategic facilities in Russia's Ryazan region. According to preliminary information, the Yandex data center in Sasovo was hit. An air raid siren was sounded in the Ryazan region after midnight on October 8. Shortly thereafter, several explosions were heard in the city of Sasovo. According to preliminary information, Ukrainian drones attacked the Sasta plant, home to a Yandex data center. The Sasta plant produces CNC metalworking machines for the defense, aerospace, and heavy industries in Russia. Following the attack on Yandex Data Center Sasovo, Russia's largest tech company experienced a major disruption. The problems affected computing power, networks, data storage, databases, Kubernetes, cloud services, AI, and security.
Yandex DC Sasovo is a large data center. It is designed to accommodate tens of thousands of servers to support the company's services and the Yandex Cloud infrastructure. Yandex invested over 6 billion rubles in its construction. The Ukrainian Defense Forces' strike on Yandex in Sasovo was a response to attacks by the Russian occupation army on Ukrainian civilian data centers in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Russian occupiers launched several strikes on Ukrainian data centers in October.
Besides, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck strategic targets in Russia's Voronezh region. It's possible that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the 711th Military Aircraft Repair Plant in Borisoglebsk. In any case, Gusev said that an alert was issued in that city regarding the immediate threat of UAVs. In Russia, key logistics hubs—including road and rail bridges—are being prepared for possible ballistic missile strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. These are crossings that are critical for supplying Russian military units.
According to traffic agents, including employees of the Rostov Region Road Administration, civilian and military agencies have received instructions from the headquarters of the Russian Federation’s Southern Military District to urgently prepare key logistics facilities for possible attacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to “ATESH,” Rosavtodor, Russian Railways, and regional administrations have received relevant instructions from the General Staff of the Russian Federation and the headquarters of the military districts.
The focus is on key crossings used to supply Russian military units.
In particular, in the Rostov region, work is underway to reinforce road and rail bridges across the Don River, and alternative routes are being prepared in case the main transportation routes are damaged.
According to the partisan movement, similar measures are being implemented in the Taganrog area.
In the Crimean sector, the Russian side expects a resumption of active attacks in the Syvash and Virmenske areas.
In the Belgorod region, bridges near Shelyaevoye and Urazovo are being placed on high alert.
