A Clean Plate and a Full Heart: Dementia Dinner Check-In w/My Mama
When I arrived at the memory care facility, Mama was doing what she always does — walking.
We went back to her room (aka her “apartment”), and later, she had dinner. Not only did she eat — she cleared her plate. 🙌🏽 Her appetite is still strong, and that’s something I never take for granted.
For persons living with dementia, nutrition is critical — but it can also be a challenge. Some days are harder than others. That’s why I stay involved, check in often, and make sure Mama is eating well and getting what she needs.
💡 Tip for fellow caregivers: Always monitor appetite, hydration, and weight. Good meals support brain health, mood, and energy — and small changes can be big indicators.
