Today’s video is a true day in the life of a dementia caregiver. Mama is stumbling and I am on edge — like any other daughter, I got concerned and reported my observations to staff. Later, she had a full dinner (and cleared her plate like a champ 💪🏾). Her appetite is still strong, and I’m grateful for that.
Please don't take this negatively. I'm rambling because I am trying so hard to choose my words correctly hence overthinking it. Please give me grace.
FB sparked a whole convo today about a video I posted of me and Mama at Bingo. I was simply showing them that she doesn't have the skillset to play all the games they suggest.
But let me say this again for the folks in the back…with kindness and love.
Maybe some of y'all are new here.
Please stop offering unsolicited advice. It's getting OLD and tired. Very much lame. What works for your auntie or grandma may not work for my Mama.
Every dementia journey is different, and I am doing the best I can to love, advocate, and protect my mother every single day.
If you’re a caregiver, I see you. This road isn’t easy, but we keep showing up. One suggestion. One criticism. One judgement at a time.
This journey is full of unpredictable moments, and I’m doing my best to meet each one with patience, humor, and grace. Your well-meaning tips aren’t always helpful. What is helpful? Support. Encouragement. Prayers. And that’s what we ask for here.
