Russia left Taganrog without air defense for Moscow's sake: missiles hit Vladivostok

The Atlant Aero company in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, Russia, which specializes in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and their components, particularly the M olniya strike and reconnaissance UAV , is a prime target for Ukrainian weapons. Aviation expert and leading researcher at the State Aviation Museum, Valery Romanenko, told Unian in response to the strikes by the Defense Forces on the night of September 15.

According to him, the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G. M. Beriev and an aircraft repair plant, which restored various types of An-12, An-72, and An-26 aircraft, are located near this enterprise. He also added that at the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after G. M. Beriev, the Russians currently "produce practically nothing and do not repair anything serious for us."

He emphasized that Atlant Aero produces Molniyas, hundreds of which fly daily over our cities and villages in the frontline zone. "Their range already reaches 90 km, and some even reach 100 km. The Russians are upgrading them, attaching FPV drones to them, using remote control, providing communication via repeaters, and installing mesh modems. This is critically important for us, so it's a good goal," he said. Romanenko noted that these are relatively cheap and extremely primitive drones, but they are dangerous to us because they can carry up to 10 kg of explosives.

"The production there is primitive, but the strike, as they say, hit a finished goods warehouse, so it's clear what the result is when these Molniya missiles are assembled from two broom handles and a few pieces of plywood. But the fact that we managed to destroy a certain number of Molniya missiles is a positive, because fewer of them will fly into our cities and fewer of our people could die," he emphasized. The aviation expert noted that Taganrog is a rather important city for Russia, which was left without air defense. He did not rule out the possibility that the anti-aircraft missile systems could have been transferred to the capital of the aggressor country.

"Russia is a Moscow-centric state. Therefore, what happens in Taganrog or Belgorod no longer interests anyone. But if something happens in Moscow, even in Vladivostok they'll say Russia has a problem if Ukrainian missiles and drones even reach the capital. We don't have that approach because we care about all cities equally; we're not Kyiv-centric," Romanenko said.

According to him, the Defense Forces took advantage of this by attacking industrial enterprises in Taganrog.

"We must destroy the Russian military-industrial complex as much as possible, because the more destruction there is, the less damage will come our way. A comprehensive, multifaceted operation was carried out in Taganrog – they struck both the military-industrial complex and Russian wholesale trade, specifically the Ozon warehouse. This is also one of the sources of replenishment of the Russian budget for funding the occupying army," he noted. Romanenko said that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have plenty of room to roam in Russia. He noted that there's a railway junction in the Bryansk region through which fuel from Belarus flows, and that the Russians launch ballistic missiles at Ukraine from Klintsy. However, they've recently stopped doing so, because, according to the expert, "we've already gotten a little used to them."
