The Ukrainian Navy, in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate, conducted a successful operation in the Black Sea, during which the Defense Forces destroyed a Russian unmanned naval craft, according to the Ukrainian Navy's press service.
The Russian target was reportedly detected by GUR units. Following this, the Ukrainian Navy's Sargan 3000 unmanned naval craft, equipped with an RWS Protector automatic combat turret with a 12.7mm machine gun, opened fire and destroyed the enemy boat.
"This is the first naval battle in history between unmanned boats," the Navy emphasizes. The navy released a video of the battle. The footage shows the engagement between the BEKs, which ended with the sinking of the Russian boat.
Military expert Andriy Ryzhenko, Captain 1st Rank of the Ukrainian Navy, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Navy, and Director of Transformation at Sonata said that there will be more such clashes between naval drones in the northwestern Black Sea .
According to him, such clashes are generally nothing new, as the Russians have adapted to the situation and are attempting to conduct reconnaissance of Ukrainian waters. "As far as I understand, this drone showed a strong interest in shipping on the Danube River. As far as I understand, it was detected, and a Sargan-3000 drone intercepted and destroyed it. Essentially, this was a tactical incident. But I think the number of such unmanned drones in the northwestern Black Sea will continue to grow," Ryzhenko added.
As a reminder, Russian occupiers are likely establishing the first dedicated base for launching Russian unmanned boats in temporarily occupied Crimea . Satellite images of the shores of Lake Donuzlav near the village of Novoozernoe suggest the possible existence of such a facility.
According to Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk, such construction appears somewhat odd, as naval drones don't require special structures. The military officer stated that he could neither confirm nor deny this information. However, he noted that the Navy has long recognized the threat posed by Russian naval drones and is preparing to respond accordingly.
