Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out airstrikes on two gas condensate plants in the Russian Arctic: in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. This is a key Russian gas-producing region, Bloomberg reports . Bloomberg noted that the distance from Ukraine to the Russian regions of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is over 3,000 km, but this is no longer a significant problem for Ukrainian long-range weapons. The attack on gas condensate plants in the Russian Arctic indicates the expansion of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' strikes against one of Russia's key industries. Until now, Ukraine has never struck Russian strategic targets at such a distance, although the Ukrainian Armed Forces have had missiles and drones capable of flying at such a distance for some time. The strikes on gas condensate plants in the Russian Arctic proved successful: fires broke out on their premises. Russian authorities failed to conceal this. Artem Zhoga, President Putin's envoy to the Urals Federal District, admitted that a fire started at one of the region's energy facilities due to "falling debris." He did not specify the name of the facility. A Bloomberg article states that expanding the geographic reach of Ukraine's strikes on strategic targets in Russia could have very serious consequences. This would undermine the Kremlin's ability to finance the war, which has now entered its fifth year. The distance from the Ukrainian border to Novy Urengoy by air is more than 2,500 km. Meanwhile, Rosaviatsiya announced restrictions on the airport in Nadym, which is even further from the Ukrainian border – over 2,600 km away. "Temporary restrictions on the entry and exit of aircraft have been introduced. These restrictions are necessary to ensure flight safety," the statement said. Ukrainian attacks are becoming increasingly long-range, reaching Russian regions located far from the Ukrainian border. On Wednesday, September 9, an immediate drone strike alert was declared for the first time in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, where 40% of Russia's oil is produced, according to The Moscow Times. Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is located 2,500 km from the border with Ukraine. Following the announcement of the above-mentioned regime, residents were urged to remain in safe places, not go outside, and not approach windows. Meanwhile, Rosaviatsiya announced restrictions on operations at six regional airports. These include airports in Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut, Sovetsky, Igrim, Nyagan, and Uray. In addition, authorities warned residents about possible disruptions to communications and mobile internet, and second-shift students at all educational institutions in the region were transferred to distance learning.
