The speaker defends GM Bill Guerin's handling of negotiations and addresses rumors of a potential trade, while also providing a brief injury update on goaltender Philip Gustafson.
We're going to be breaking it down, going over what this really means for the Minnesota Wilds. This has gotten way too out of hand because people don't understand the context of this entire situation.
Folks, we're going to be breaking it down, going over all of this, and we're seemingly getting a lot more Quinn Hughes news over the last couple of days, and that is not going to be slowing down just yet.
So if you guys want to stay up to date with everything going on with Quinn Hughes and the current situation, be sure to drop a sub here on the channel.
I want to thank you guys for tuning in to these videos every day. Thank you to you guys on Facebook for tuning in to these videos every day.
Thank you to the members on YouTube as well for your support as well. I appreciate all you guys tuning in here, but I want to get straight into this because there's been a lot of comments, a lot of things.
I want to say this right away. This seemingly has gone way out of proportion from what it looks like to the outside of the Wilds fan base, and right here is one thing that Bill Guerin started off with.
The only thing I can say is we have a great relationship with Quinn. The team, me personally, I have a great relationship with his agent. Things are going well. We're talking all the time.
There's good communication. These things take time in June, July, and most of August. There's really no pressure. Bill Guerin is showing his confidence. That's the biggest thing.
The comments that are going to follow may be taken in a different context, but this to me says all we need to.
This is a professional GM who is not going to be spoiling the negotiations that they're having, the talks, stuff that's behind closed doors. That's not going to be leaked.
They do not want that to happen, and that's what this comment right here says to me.
You see this here from Dan Berio. This was on Kayfan, the whole score north side of things.
Bill Guerin refuses to pledge that if the Wilds are unable to get a contract extension from Quinn Hughes, you have to trade him.
Guerin will resign as GM. When Guerin is told you can't trade Quinn, he then says, I can do whatever I want.
Now, this was taken absolutely crazy by Devils fans just because we know how they are right now, that they want Quinn Hughes.
They know they're not going to get him though, but this entire situation can go back to months and months and really even years.
Dan Berio and Bill Guerin are friends. Every time Bill Guerin is on the radio with him, Dan Berio tries to rile him up.
That's about it. That's what the context of this is. There is nothing else to go along with it.
Obviously, like I said, Bill Guerin is not going to spoil things. This is something that's saying, you know,
I think what a lot of Wild fans are feeling like where, hey, you need to resign him or you trade him, but Bill Guerin knows it's not as easy as that.
There's a lot of things that go behind this, whether it is negotiation in the offseason, whether it may be a negotiation during the season.
You know, obviously that's a bit of a different scenario where even Elliott Friedman said that's where I would start to worry.
You know, it's a very different situation because of how much the entirety of the market has changed, not just forwards,
not just young players, not just defensemen over this past season.
I feel like when we do look and kind of go about how things work in the NHL, I think it's a business and it's ever changing.
So with Bill Guerin's comments, I'm really not worried. And you see, once again, Bill talking about Quinn.
This was another comment that got taken a bit deep here for a lot of people.
Quinn might be, you know, might be after different things. He got different things in his life that are important to him.
Who knows what he's going to want to do in the end?
Once again, a lot of people took this as he may not want to play with Minnesota.
But the thing is this. We know how much Quinn appreciates Bill Guerin, the Minnesota Wild.
We're taking a chance on him, getting out of the organization, giving up as much as they did, having him put on the Olympic team.
And obviously that was going to happen regardless, but how much trust they put him on that team.
All of this plays down to Bill Guerin and Quinn Hughes together.
That is the extent of it. And things like this where I'm just going to leave is not going to happen.
If Bill Guerin knew that Quinn Hughes was not going to sign, we would also know.
That would have came out whichever way. Someone would have heard about it by now, and we haven't seen that.
So everybody's saying that Quinn Hughes is not signing is simply wrong at this point in time, September 1st, 2026.
And I mean, you can look right now at the defense that this team has.
There is a big need to have Quinn Hughes on this defense.
You know, getting rid of him is not going to be an easy thing to do. You cannot replace Quinn Hughes.
There's very few defensemen that you can even put in the realm of possibility by being up there with him.
And I would probably put Cale McCarr, Lane Hudson, and Matthew Schaefer.
That is about it. Zach Rensky as well, if you want to throw him in the mix.
Will the Wilds get any of those guys for Quinn Hughes? No.
They're not going to get rid of him to have Jonas Brodine, Obi Mata, and Viking Gustafsson Nyberg on defense.
That's just not the case. And when you look at McCarr's deal, obviously this is very close to the maximum.
20.8 million is the max. Cale McCarr got 20.4 for eight years.
We know that Quinn's not going to get an eight-year deal.
That don't matter to me. Three to five, whatever it is, I'm okay with it.
Obviously, the higher the better.
But for Quinn Hughes right now, making 7.85 until July 1st, 2027, there's a lot of time to get things going.
Like Bill Guerin said, there's no reason to worry about it that Quinn may not sign with this team just yet.
There has been no indication that he will not. All indication has been that he will.
And things like this just get blown out of proportion, which obviously is getting everybody,
all the Wild fans that are, you know, looking at this, taking this in, absolutely frustrated.
Especially from Devils fans, and they're doing a good job at it, I got to say.
But, you know, good luck with not having Quinn Hughes, and with, you know, Jack Hughes leaving in a couple years too.
So, that's all I have to say about that.
So folks, give me your thoughts on these recent comments.
But obviously, to me, this is the biggest one here from Bill Guerin.
Great relationship, the team, him personally, the agent.
It's a business game, and that's a great sign from what Bill Guerin said.
So give me your thoughts in the comments, and obviously a lot of people may think about this in a different way.
I'm standing firm on my thoughts here. Give me your thoughts down below.
Now, I do have another update here on Philip Gustafson now.
Bill Guerin said this as well, in the most recent stretch of comments he had yesterday.
It's going to be a little while after that. Doing well on the recovery path, though.
So, a little bit of a change of plans that it may not be ready for the regular season.
We knew he was going to be out a little bit, but the timeline is right now, this.
He could be, when following up with a gust injury, ready one month into the new season.
So, not the worst. Obviously, they have currently Jesper Wahlstedt there,
and they have a few other names that may be thrown into the mix,
but it seems like Jesper Wahlstedt will remain that number one goalie.
Give him a very good test to see how he can fare playing three, four, maybe five games in a row for the first month.
That's going to be exciting to see, because we know that Philip Gustafson has been on the market
with his new contract kicking in on July 1st, the $6.8 million AAV,
which is actually a very good contract for a very solid goaltender.
Curious to see how that does end up, kind of, paving the way to next season.
Whether they do end up trading Philip Gustafson, or decide to kind of do the Boston Bruins route
they had with Jeremy Swayman and Linus Olmerka, keeping two very, very good goalies.
So, wanted to throw that in there here as well.
Folks, give me your thoughts on that below, but the big thing is,
do you have the trust in Bill Guerin with his comments?
You know, the Minnesota State Fair, from all of these different shows, a lot of the same comments,
a lot of people trying to get some information, but Billy Guerin is staying firm on his decision.
Give me your thoughts down below on all of this, but folks, that's all I have in this one.
If you did enjoy, give it a like, hit the sub button as well.
I am signing out, thank you for watching, hope you have a great day.
