It's Happening Again... Raptors Among Favourites for ANOTHER Star | Raptors News
Oct 17, 2026
It's happening again, folks,
as a bombshell report just dropped out of Sacramento,
revealing all the turmoil that's going
on with their star players over there.
And the Toronto Raptors have once again
been linked to a star player trade.
And of course, the asking price will be very,
very big in one of these trade packages.
So we're going to break down what these reports are saying,
how the Toronto Raptors have been linked,
and frankly, whether or not it makes sense
for the Toronto Raptors to pursue
another one of these home run swings in order
to continue the construction expedite this rebuild
after uh you know the team acquired brandon agrabah has
been making some big moves late so
lots of stuff to break down in this video
but folks i want to thank you guys we hit that 37
300 mark you know we're a little miles out
of the season the raptors haven't been great but
trying to hit 38 000 subs as uh by the nba draft lottery
so we get some good luck you know to try
and capture that flag so make sure you guys you're enjoying
the daily toronto raptors content you
guys hit that subscribe button but let's dive into the news
because we have a lot of stuff to really
dive into because the Raptors always seem linked
to these uh big names after they get traded so
a couple weeks ago we had this report dropped
from Brad Siegel now on March 28th saying that
many around the league are preparing
for the possibility of the Kings becoming big sellers
ahead of the 2026 NBA trade deadline next February
and this would uh likely result in
Sabonis requesting a trade should he should
a clear direction not present itself for Sacramento
so this is obviously very very interesting
because Thomas Sabonis is a very effective
especially one of the best offensive centers in the entire NBA
and is a true all-star caliber
player I think him playing in Sacramento he's
gotten overshined a little bit in terms of how
good he actually is and things really started heating up over
the past couple of days essentially
news came out in regards to
ESPN dropping a story
Sacramento fired their GM Ricard
of ways with Monty McNair and ended up
bringing in Scott Perry out there
in New York and this is very important for
something we'll discuss a little bit later
but then news dropped from Red Seal
again today who's got some little
links out there with Sacramento saying
big changes are coming in Sacramento before this
year's draft it could even happen within
next week don't be shocked
if the team goes through some sort
of rebuild in the offseason I'd
personally be surprised if DeMar DeRozan is around next season
and Sabonis hitting the trade
market isn't as crazy as some would like to think one
of the hot names talked around as an early
trade target so things are starting to heat up
with a new regime coming in with Sacramento the
team got knocked out of the plane it was an ugly season
and this is where the Toronto Raptors come
in because of course how does this link
to the Toronto Raptors the Indiana Pacers are favorites
to land Domas Sabonis but the Toronto Raptors
are right up there in this list of teams in this group
of squads that can come out there
and make a trade with the Sacramento Kings for Domantas and this is
intriguing because of course
this team does have Jakob Poeltl just gave some quotes about
how the team is looking to you know move forward
with the rebuild build around Scottie Barnes do a
lot of different things
and frankly Domantas Sabonis is really really good at basketball we
have to put some context into this because the guy
is averaging 19 points per game 14 rebounds as
Wallace six assists and on top of it
an underrated storyline over the course of the season is how
good how effective he's been as a three-point
shooter shooting 42 percent from behind the
three-point line and all and 50 percent out there
on corner threes he takes about two between two
and three a game so not the craziest of sample size
but he is remarkably efficient as a three-point
shooter at the center position
so Domantas is very good Domantas is a very very effective you know
center big man and with all the turmoil
that's happening out there with the Sacramento Kings we
know Masai Ujiri likes to strike on these types
of deals now he is on a significant contract he's
making 40 million dollars per year his previous season
but uh 43 46 and 49 over the next three
seasons so you do have some contract control over him
at a price that given his output and
production especially on the offensive end
is fairly reasonable in today's NBA market but
what the issues lead to this contract
because again all the Kings are in turmoil let's swoop
in and make a smooth trade the issue
with that is the Toronto Raptors current cap situation doesn't
allow for we don't have a lot of these big contracts
that were recently going to be going
to be traded we're not trading Scottie Barnes we
are not trading uh we're not trading Brandon
Ingram in one of these packages
so it's going to come down to a combination of either you know one
of these uh types of deals where it's RJ Barrett
and Jakub Poeltl or slide in Emmanuel quickly instead
of RJ Barrett but IQ's trade value hasn't
been that high I think RJ Barrett to be more intriguing
because of how effective he's been this season
but you could slot in IQ there because he's more
of a position of need for Sacramento they're looking
for a point guard and all these types
of things after getting rid of De'Aaron Fox
but this would be the general construction of a trade
package involving Domantas Sabonis solely not even
for hey i think this is equal value i think this is
this i think it's that this would be the case solely off
the fact it's really the only deal
that can make the money work for the Toronto
Raptors unless you're going to get into weird
trade packages that involve Scotty Barnes Brandon Ingram
and stuff like that and yeah the portal will be
becomes more expendable if you're acquiring uh Sabonis out there
in one of these trade packages
so this is what we can expect in a deal for uh Domantas Sabonis
and frankly we do have to look
at the stats of these guys
because RJ Barrett's a player I have been outspoken I do not want to
trade I do not want to deal
and frankly some people might go oh he doesn't make sense in the
Sacramento Kings why would they want him well
as we saw DeMar DeRozan's likely to be on the outs
they do like guys Zach Levine David Videau the news came out today
that he essentially had his
hand forced in this but the reason why i bring up
rj barrett more than emmanuel quickly is because
one uh iq has been talked about
a little bit more than uh you know uh rj barrett from the
Raptors point of view in terms of the long-term
future piece they put more of an investment in
there and to the future even though i personally
am RJ Barrett's my favorite player on the Toronto
Raptors being open and honest about that but uh basically
the the point i brought up in terms of
the new GM out there in uh in the Sacramento Kings
because as we know RJ Barrett he was formerly on
New York Knicks the Toronto Raptors made
that trade acquired uh in that OG and Ob to the Knicks
bringing back IQ bringing back uh you know Emmanuel Quickley
and RJ Barrett was the guy that was liked
by Leon Rose out here Scott Perry Scott Perry
that relationship they're gonna mix them up Leon
Rose the current GM of the New York Knicks
but uh that could be an intrigue in terms of a trade
package i guess IQ could also be in that mix
but RJ Barrett was selected you know as a top overall
draft pick by the New York Knicks you know under
this regime they spoke highly of him out there
during Scott Perry's tenure
so i feel like RJ Barrett just seems like a sensible sort of trade
target trade fit again similar arguments could
be made for Emmanuel Quickley but it's a it's a piece
that just makes sense with the new regime
with the contract situation with the age i mean the team is
looking to move towards a rebuild
and how effective RJ Barrett was been feels like he'd be a
centerpiece the style of play that you know
with the the Kings, Vives has been you know the owner
of the Sacramento Kings has been pretty
hands-on with certain types of players coming in with
Sacramento RJ Barrett just fits the kind of mold
that those Sacramento Kings teams like now we'll
see specifically under new regime
who what type of players they're interested in they try to clean
house but RJ Barrett's that young piece it's
on a flexible contract that Scott Perry I'd imagine
be very very intrigued by doing now do I want to see
this trade happen no I'm going to be outspoken
and talk about that but I have a couple of lists
to sort of break down what the pros and cons on
this situation because you do get a major upgrade
on the offensive end right we we saw the stats we
saw everything that was going on there in terms
of numbers Jakob Poeltl of course is putting it had
a really phenomenal season for the raptors
this year you know 15 points per game 10 rebounds to
assist 1.2 blocks 1.2 steals
but offensively Sabonis is a juggernaut he's a better facilitator
he's a better three-point shooter even
though Poeltl did have a couple threes there at the end
of the season Sabonis is a much more established player
on that end of the court again we saw his
stats there uh just uh just an offensive nightmare out there
in the entire nba so that is one thing
to factor in you know you do get a major upgrade
in the front court on the offensive side of the
ball you get more roster balance
because you're giving up a guard so you know there's questions
about internal competition with Jacoby Walter
with uh Grady Dick we'll see who we end up drafting in
this year's nba draft another guard could be coming
into play for the raptors so you get more
roster balance and then you do get improved floor spacing
with the improved three-point shooting so
those are the pros of Sabonis trade
but the real you know cons is you get a considerable downgrade
on defense and this is the biggest argument I'd have against it
because Jakob Poeltl as the anchor
of this Raptors defenses has been very very solid I mean he's
not jumping out out the gym in terms
of blocking shots he's not you know coming
in and being that that imposing force he's a seven
footer like he's a big man
but his positioning his movement he's surprisingly like has some
lateral quicks out there at the center spot he
is a very very effective defender that we would not
see from Domantas Sabonis
so that's a reality there of course you are giving up serious not
just talent like guard talent but talent in general giving up Jakob Poeltl
and RJ Barrett and I imagine
just given market values I'm not sure what uh
the actual trade what finesse you could actually make
in one of these deals and then the question would fit in Brown Scott
and I'm not saying it's I think
they figured out because they're both very high
IQ basketball players great facilitators great
passers but you know and with Sabonis's uh
three-point shooting there is more floor spacing
but Sabonis likes to work out there
in the mid-post area in that sort of you know 8 to 12
foot range you know facing up pass
and doing these types of things having the ball in his hands being
effective in those areas we have Scottie Barnes we have Brandon Ingram
that are making a ton of money
on this roster that also need the ball in their hands
so you're giving up again at the center spot
Jakob Poeltl who can be more of a cleanup guy can
be more of a utility piece at the center spot
even though Sabonis is certainly more talented
player you might be taking away touches from
Scottie from uh from Brandon Ingram if you make one
of these deals happen again you could say oh
RJ Barrett's on the way out so let me insert a shooter in there
so there's a lot of permutations
in terms of where this could work out where this could play
but it is something that would have to
be brought up in these discussions so let me know
what you guys think about all this in the comment
section down below would you want to see
a Domantas Sabonis trade to the Toronto Raptors
