How to Find Peace in the Present Moment with Rick Hanson

So much of the mind is leaning into the future—anticipating what will happen, planning what we’ll do, worrying about what could go wrong, and getting attached to how we or other people are supposed to become.

In this talk, I explore what Buddhist wisdom, neuroscience, and even the physics of time can teach us about stepping out of this constant striving and returning to the “front edge of now.”

Expectations, craving, and our brain’s prediction machinery can pull us away from the present. But there are practical ways to interrupt that habit through not-knowing, wonder, letting go, and simply receiving what is arising.

As we learn to rest more fully in the present, we can suffer less, feel less driven, and experience more contentment, freedom, and gratitude for the extraordinary gift of simply being here.
