The Russian Z-channel "Thirteenth" writes that Ukrainian strikes on Russian maritime logistics in the Azov and Black Seas have been a "disaster" for Russia. According to it, the destruction and disabling of ships is just one stage of the Ukrainian operation to isolate Crimea from mainland Russia. "What the Ukrainians have done to our logistics in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea is nothing less than a 'disaster.' In their operation to isolate Crimea from the mainland, the destruction of maritime logistics is just one step; there will be others, I'm sure." "Now the price of wheat is determined not by the harvest, but by the question: will the next ship reach port, be able to unload, and return?" wrote the Z-blogger. He admitted that the speed with which Ukrainian forces struck Russian shipping was "truly nightmarish . " According to his calculations, the first two vessels were hit in the Sea of Azov on July 6, with 12 the following day. On July 10, Russia closed the Azov-Don Canal to shipping, and by July 14, the number of damaged vessels exceeded 100.
On July 15, according to the channel's author, the attacks began in the Black Sea. Three days later, the total number of damaged vessels reached 172, then tankers began to burn. By August 10, according to "Thirteenth," the total number of Ukrainian attacks in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea had exceeded two hundred damaged vessels. The Z-blogger also notes the economic effect. According to him, about a quarter of Russian grain used to pass through the Azov Sea. Now, logistics have "seriously declined," insurance and freight costs have risen, and some shipowners are afraid to enter dangerous areas.
Recently, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces have struck another 12 Russian vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov since the beginning of August, bringing the reported total hit during a month-long maritime campaign to 218. According to Brovdi, Ukrainian drones have so far successfully targeted 134 vessels in the Sea of Azov and another 84 in the Black Sea. The operation is aimed at disrupting Russian maritime logistics, including vessels associated with Moscow’s so-called shadow fleet.
Brovdi also said shipping through the Kerch Strait has remained blocked since July 10—a period of 30 days as of August 8. The claim could not be independently verified.
Footage released by the SBS showed one of the latest strikes near the Russian Black Sea resort city of Gelendzhik. According to Brovdi, a Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense system fired three missiles at the approaching Ukrainian drone but failed to intercept it before the drone reached the vessel.
Separate footage published from the Russian Black Sea coast showed vessels being targeted near Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. The maritime campaign began on July 6 as Ukraine expanded long-range drone operations against Russian logistics in and around temporarily occupied Crimea. The strikes have run in parallel with attacks on oil facilities, energy infrastructure, railways, bridges, and other routes used to supply Russian forces on the peninsula.
