In a News 12 exclusive, a Bushwick woman is looking for some accountability after her
car's windshield was broken in an apparent freak accident.
As she told our Greg Thompson, the only thing more frustrating than what happened has been
the way it's been handled.
Of all the ways Adrienne Delena might have guessed her windshield got smashed, hit by
a falling wood plank was pretty low on the list.
My mouth dropped a little bit and then I was just like, what the, that was not on the bingo
card.
Video from July 17th shows another plank being lowered from 260 Moore Street onto the sidewalk
just a few seconds earlier.
There was no safety or noting that there was work going on in the area.
And then a worker watching as this one went flying.
I often sit in my car, you know, it's just a thing I like to do.
So you know, I could have been there, you know, it's just, it's really concerning.
While the worker picked it up and took it away, Delena says nobody left a note.
That would have helped tremendously.
Instead, without insurance, she was left to pay the $425 bill herself.
People try to cut corners, people try to rush.
I understand that, but it costs a lot and you know, I use my car quite frequently.
The building's manager tells us that one of the tenants had hired someone to paint their
apartment and the plank is a piece of the scaffolding they were using.
The manager has asked the tenant for the contractor's information, but so far hasn't gotten an answer.
I see what's going on and just avoiding it.
It's just not fair.
You know, it's just public safety accountability.
It's just kind of just being a decent human being.
Delena has filed a police report and a detective said they would be in touch.
Meanwhile, the DOB tells us that it would need to do an official investigation to say
whether or not this is something they would issue a violation for.
