An NHL insider has just dropped a bombshell Red Wings report including Steve Eisenman's
role with the organization moving forward.
Chris Illich has a massive decision to make in hiring the new general manager and this
report reveals new candidates and a timeline for when this takes place as we are in the
middle of one of the most crucial off-seasons for this Red Wings organization in probably
the last 40 years at this point.
We're going to break down exactly what all of this means, what the reports entail, and
who will be the next general manager of the Detroit Red Wings all in this episode of Red
Wings Digest.
But before we jump into all of that guys, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button.
We've noticed that about 85% of you guys who watch these videos are not subscribed to the

We're almost at our goal of 5,000 subscribers over on YouTube, so thank you so much for
the support over there.
And if you're watching on any other platform or listening on any other platform, thank
you so much.
And shout out to all you guys who comment, watch every single day.
We really, really appreciate you guys.
But let's jump right into it.
We have some new reports to get to.
So first one from John Shannon.
The only thing that I was told was that it's going to take a lot longer than people realize.
Now I want to break this into two separate parts, this report from John Shannon.
Now obviously he's well connected.
He knows exactly what's going on around the league in terms of, you know, maybe some of
the old brass.
So I think there could be some truth to this.
Although if you're the Red Wings, and when I say you're the Red Wings, when you're ownership,
you want to get this done as soon as possible because you want that new GM in place to go
out, make the necessary moves you need to make to settle everything down ahead of this
next crucial season.
Because while it doesn't look like they're going to make the playoffs with the current
roster construction, anything can happen in the Eastern Conference, but I mean, if you
look at the rest of the Atlantic division, they're going to be in tough.
You want to get this done ASAP.
So that to me kind of stinks.
Now the second part, I was told that this is something that may not be rectified until
September.
Ladies and gentlemen, the season starts earlier this year.
It starts in September.
You can't let this wait until September.
They have to start this process now.
They have to get this done ASAP.
It cannot bleed into late December when the season starts.
This is one of the most crucial off seasons with Dylan Larkin's trade request.
The fact that, you know, the Brinkett said he doesn't want to go anywhere, but there's
no contract extension talks because there is no general manager.
Now we know, and there's a new report as well from Max, Max does some great work, obviously
one of the best beat reporters for, uh, obviously the Detroit Red Wings.
Now this is from NHL rumor reports, shout out to them for putting this on Twitter.
And, uh, this was in the athletic from Max and he said, while the initial announcement
said that Steve Eisenman will serve in an advisory capacity on the search committee,
my understanding remains that Eisenman will not be involved in hockey decisions in the
next front office.
So I said a couple of videos ago and I saw some comments and I saw some people confused
on social media.
Where does he lie in all this?
He's going to be an advisor to the owner, not the new GM coming in, but he is involved
in the search.
You can see, you know, uh, initial announcement said that he will serve in an advisory capacity
on the search committee, but that he will not be involved in hockey decisions in the
next front office, but he's hiring the next GM.
So don't you think that, you know, from his perspective, he's hiring a guy that might
share the same philosophies as him, might see the game the same way as him.
We might, you know, end up in the same position as the Red Wings were with him, right?
So it's pretty, that's, that one's pretty interesting to me.
Okay.
He's not going to be involved day to day anymore.
He's just going to advise ownership and I, you know, listen, when you look at the Red
Wings and you look at Heisman and who he is, him being an advisor to ownership is not a
bad thing, right?
Him making the hockey moves, he has not built a good team.
He's not built a competitive team, so therefore it was time to move on.
So to me, an advisor to ownership, that could make some sense if it's only that.
And it does sound like it is only that he won't be involved day to day, but he is involved
in the hiring process.
But now you're also hearing from John Shannon that the hiring process is taking a lot longer
than initially thought.
And from my point of view, my opinion, it's taking longer than it should.
This should happen soon.
And you don't want to rush to a conclusion, but let me tell you, when you hear reports
from Jeff Merrick, and again, he's just kicking tires on, you know, he had a, he put out this
tweet about how, you know, everyone was saying that he was saying Jimmy Rutherford was going
to be the next GM.
That's not the case.
He was kicking tires on the connection to Jimmy Rutherford, uh, saying, uh, you know,
he used to play for the Red Wings.
That could make some sense.
And obviously he has the, uh, you know, great track record in Pittsburgh 10 years ago, 10
years ago, by the way.
And then with the Vancouver Canucks most recently, absolute tire fire of an organization.
We talked about that, but you see more reports, uh, you know, Jim Rutherford, and then about
the next candidates.
And when this plays into the search, if you have names like this popping up already, like
Brad, you're living Peter Shirely and Mark Bergevin, the best one out of that group is
Mark Bergevin by a mile by a long way.
And you have a list like this coming out already.
In my experience, when lists like this come out, it's going to be one of these guys, right?
Including Jimmy Rutherford.
Now, we know that Jimmy Rutherford wants to also be vice president, right?
Like he wants a president role, sorry, not vice president, he wants a president role
and he could be the general manager as well.
All of these names scare me.
And if you're a Red Wings fan, you should be scared of all of these names, except for
maybe Mark Bergevin, right?
Not ideal.
Even still, then they should be going younger and a different direction, in my opinion,
because I don't know what these guys have done in the last couple of years.
I do know what they've done, not find success, not find success.
So this search is taking to, in my experience, when you see names like this come out, they
have their guys, right?
So this search to me is taking too long for the fact that we know they're going to end
up hiring one of these guys to do an awful job, right?
That is my point.
So let me know how you feel about that in the comments, because in my experience, when
I look around the league, when stuff like this starts to come out, they have their guys,
they're taking too long to hire the guy and the guy's going to do a horrific job, right?
That's just what I've seen.
So it should be a wide open search and it, you know, the best candidates show in and
it's not going to be that way.
However, one thing to keep in mind too, with the Red Wings, maybe the best man going in
a different direction, all that stuff shouldn't be the case.
Maybe you should bring in a guy with a lot of experience, like a Jimmy Rutherford to
calm the waters, because I haven't mentioned in this episode yet that this is a bit of
a mess.
The team is in a bit of a mess.
You have no idea what's happening with the Brinkett in terms of contract extension.
We know he doesn't want to leave and he's not going to request a trade.
Wants to be here.
You should keep a guy like that on the team.
Larkin asked for a trade.
Now that Iserman's kind of out of the picture, what does that look like?
And the team, period, besides those two things and many other things with the team, Mo Sider
looks fantastic, all that stuff.
You want to continue to build up some of the younger guys and what does the rest of the
team look like?
The team itself isn't good and it was not good last year and it was not good the year
before that.
And it was not good the year before that.
Good enough.
And they certainly were not going to have five on five.
They did sign Victor Arvidson, which could help with some of the scoring, especially
five on five.
Take a look at the lineup heading into next year.
We got a lot of question marks with a lot of younger guys and you, you didn't have question
marks last year with older guys and there were a bunch of bodies and shirts out there,
jerseys not doing much.
I think it's pretty interesting.
So that's the end of my rant.
In my experience, when you have names like this come out, they're going to hire one of
them.
They're going to do an awful job and you're just going to have to sit in it.
Let me tell you, if they hire one of Peter Shirely or Bradshire living, this team is
in tough.
This is going to be bad, going to be bad.
So that's going to be interesting.
We'll see what Steve Eiseman does in terms of advising on this GM search.
But to me, this so far is taking too long.
You cannot wait until the season starts to have your GM in place.
You have to start making decisions.
You need to know exactly what the game plan is going into the year.
You cannot leave some of this up to chance.
You have to be somewhat competitive in this Eastern conference because if you're not,
figure out what you're doing, right?
Because then if you're not a good team, you have to start selling off unless the brink
it wants to stay through a rebuild, right?
But you have to outline it that way.
Hey, not a rebuild, but a retool.
Like you're taking a step back basically to add some more younger talent, trading work
and whatever that is, figure out what you're doing and you can't figure out what you're
doing if you don't have the guy in charge, a GM in place.
So I think it's pretty interesting.
That's the end of my rant.
Let me know how you guys feel about that.
This team needs somebody to come in, I think as well, to steady the waters.
I think for long-term success, you probably want a younger guy in there, new ideas, stuff
like that.
But there is something to be said about bringing in experience and calming the waters a little
bit.
And maybe that's where you have two people come in and I think that two people could
work out too.
A president and a GM, two different guys.
The president kind of calms things.
Maybe it's an older president, like a Jimmy Rutherford.
That could make some sense.
You have a younger GM.
That could make some sense as well.
But let me know how you guys would structure it, who you think would be the best choice.
And man, they can't wait until September.
