With the Dolphins cutting costs and recently extending Jordan Brooks, Dodson has emerged as a potential trade candidate who could address the Cowboys' need for veteran depth and stability in their linebacker corps.
The Dallas Cowboys have a golden opportunity right in front of them as after a major signing occurs
across the NFL with what once was a Cowboys trade candidate. Jimmie Jones now has a new option
inside the Dolphins organization who is up for grabs. And with the Dolphins, of course,
trying to cut costs, the Cowboys are in a perfect position to acquire a linebacker after all.
Welcome into Cowboys Digest, everybody. I'm Jace Andrews, and I hope you're having a great day
wherever you guys might be. Apologies for not being able to get some videos out to you over
the past couple of days. I actually went out on my bachelor party this past past couple of days
and back now get some daily videos out to you. Obviously, we do the Red Roster cutdowns coming
in here. Very, very clutch. And we got a lot to talk about with Cowboys and some interesting
decisions they're going to have to make. But I appreciate you all for giving me grace. And of
course, hopefully you all enjoyed the shorts while I was gone as well. But let's go to an
important sign that we saw yesterday. This from Adam Schefter, the Dolphins and linebacker Jordan
Brooks have agreed to a three year $51.3 million extension with $35 million of a guaranteed. We
know what the Dolphins did this offseason, they made a lot of moves cutting costs, then adding
back costs in certain areas. So it was obviously very interesting. And Brooks was long rumored to
be a guy that they could be moving off of, which is why the Cowboys were really a lot of this
offseason. And even the very back end of last year, we're looking at Jordan Brooks and, and
the potential of adding him to the roster. In fact, at one point during this offseason, they
were looking at Patrick Queen, but they had pivoted off him. And we're looking at all these
Al Shire and Jordan Brooks as potential targets. Obviously, now both of those guys are not going to
be on the Cowboys because both of them have contract extensions. But that does open up a
different option inside the Dolphins organization for Jerry Jones. Before I say about that other
trade candidates, and the options behind them, I'll let you know this video is brought to you
by prize picks. prize picks is America's number one sports picks app. And it's the best way to
get in on the action on all of your favorite sports, whether that be picking on the MLB going

gonna have some preseason picks for you. Not to mention NFL season long projections and week one
already out there on the app. Or, of course, you can use it online as well. So go check it out with

off the table, there was an interesting article put out by a Dolphins reporter talking about the
potential of moving a linebacker after all, given the money now put into the linebacker room with
Brooks. And so that is where we go to the report of Matt Fitzgerald of Finn fanatic talking about
here saying new GM john eric sullivan sullivan sent a lot of veterans packing this offseason,
either via trade or release and opted not to retain many of his in house free agents.
It wouldn't be a stretch to suggest he'll start by trading another linebacker now before week one
and Tyrell Dodson. And now the linebacker room for the Dallas Cowboys is something that we have
long talked about as a definite need for sure. I mean, that's something that the Cowboys would
love to improve. I like to Marvin overshoot. I like the winters. And I think there's a lot
of prowess behind Jason Barham. But he was playing Ed Rusher this time last year with
Michigan Wolverines like there's just not a lot to put behind that. I would love to see somebody
else added into this room. And Dotson is a perfect candidate, especially like when you said
you cut cost cutting efficiencies of the Miami Dolphins, they're looking to try and move stuff
and no Dotson inside with the will linebacker last year, him and Jordan Brooks were one to punch.
They do have some rookies obviously with Jacob Rodriguez in that room, Kyle Louie with him as
well. Trey Moore on the edge could potentially see him put to a linebacker position. So Dodson
with his contract with the expiring contract of it and the nature there, there's a lot to be put
on the potential of moving him before the start of the 2026 season. And Dotson is interesting guy
because there's been some good years, but it's been some bad years. I mean, that's true with
everybody, but he's had some very wide differences. Now over the past couple of seasons has been very,
very good. In 2024, I had 107 total tackles across his time with both Seattle and Miami.
And then last year on 129 tackles, 72 of those solo five sacks, one force fumble,
one from recovery, and I had an interception as well. So lots of things to like with that.
One of his better years was definitely back in 23 when she had 17 games, 74 tackles for the bills
with 57 of those solo two and a half sacks, a force fumble, and not to mention two passes defended as
well with nine stuff. So he's got a lot of things going for him and it would be a pretty good
addition. Now for the Cowboys, obviously you want to make a move that will help the team. You're
not trying to make a move just to make a move. That's a huge thing with that. So is he going to
help the team? Well, underlying statistics kind of give you some interesting stories. So last year
he was second in linebacker sacks, according to PFF out of 88 linebackers, five is a pretty good
amount right there. It was 18th until the tackles 28th or 20 high twenties. And as assist can't
really fully read that, but the 12th then in his force fumbles, but the grades weren't all that
great. 55.3 ranking him in the upper half of the linebackers across the NFL run defense,
pass rush grade, pretty similar in the 66.1 and 0.2 area about middle of the pack for both those,
but the coverage grade just wasn't great. 67th out of the 88 linebackers with a 45.4 grade.
So just not great there, but he's had some good years in the past. I mentioned 2023. That was a
very good season for him. In fact, he had a 90.2 PFF grade that ranked him as the number one
linebacker in all of the NFL, which of course got him to Seattle. And then, you know,
they ended up trading him to the Miami dolphins. This is a guy who, you know, he had one good year
in terms of PFS statistics in terms of, you know, the, the under, not the underlying system,
but the ones you could see right in front of you, I had some good prowess to him.
And I do think that he's a guy who you can add in here. I guess the one concern that I have
is that he reminds me a lot of D winters. He's very familiar, very similar to D winters.
So are you going to be actually adding somebody that is going to give you a different look?
Or are you adding a second D winter to the group when you don't even know
how D winter is going to look just yet? No, I don't want to crap on anyone. I'm not trying to
do that. He's going to be pretty good. And I'm pretty excited to watch what D is going to be
able to do here in 2026 with the Dallas Cowboys. Obviously making the trade was a pretty smart
move. He had 101 tackles last year. So relatively similar to Tyrell Dodson, but
Dodson, given the options available for the Cowboys at this point, if they would like to
add a linebacker, a guy with veteran prowess, six foot two 37, a hundred plus tackles last year,
just really solid across multiple different facets. Like it's a very good option for them
to have in terms of contract. It's also expiring, which I think is better in some ways for the
Cowboys and for the Dolphins net light, but it's really solid what you get out of them for just
what? $2.3 million. I mean, that's such an easy move. You would have to move a piece,
obviously doing that right now. He is as the starter on the most depth charts. I don't think
he is actually a starter. I would have to say that Rodriguez, Kyle Lewis can have a better shot of
kind of bouncing them out of that role, specifically Rodriguez. But at the time,
you know, there's, there's options for the Dolphins. And I do think this is something to
ponder upon. So I want to know your thoughts down below, and that's just maybe more for
Dotson or more in general. We've talked so much about trading for a linebacker,
moving for a linebacker, signing a volley Wagner, Vaughn Miller, Bobby O'Kara K.
Do you think the Cowboys need to make a move at linebacker? Do you want the Cowboys to make a move
at linebacker? Do you trust what we have? If you want them to make a move, then type
laughter. Yes. If you trust what we have and then they don't need to make a move,
then type in for no. Let me know your thoughts down in the comment section.
So I do think that there is a lot to put behind Dotson and what he can do, especially the tackle
numbers. I probably would do it if it were a late round pick. And if it was easily moved,
a cheap contract, like what I have, add some extra depth, puts them alongside Jason Barham
as that second option. Obviously we know the injury history with the Marvion overshown.
So that leaves you a little bit with a safer feeling, I think in that light,
but at the same time, he is very similar to D winter. So are you really adding that much?
And I don't know for sure, but I do know that my prize picks, they've been in a bad spot lately.
Since the world cup is in it, I haven't really got a lot of picks going. I haven't been doing
well in the MLB selections world cup. I was, I was hitting every one of them, but you can make
your picks down the NFL, which is where I'm switching back to right now for your season
long projections. Dak Prescott, George Pickens, Kenneth Walker, the third ticket, the more on
their yards, prospectively rushing for Kenneth receiving for George and passing for G or for
Dak. So you can go check these out and you can also check out week one selections as well for
the Cowboys versus the New York giants. So go check that out. I get a link in the description
use code digest when signing up for an account. That way, when you play $5, you're going to get
$50 instantly in your lineup. Overall, I think this is a guy that I'm definitely paying attention
to for sure. And him being listed as a trade candidate by the media in Miami is something
to watch for lots of good parts with the tackles and solos ranking top 15 in both those sacks,
obviously 21st, but a top 10 guy in terms of linebacker sack. So there's some things to like
about him. Also good seven season veteran guy. Let me know what you think down in the comment
section and we will talk to you next time for now, guys. Peace out.
