This is AMAZING for the Rams...
Aug 23, 2026
This is amazing for the Rams. The Rams looked dominant from start to finish today in their
second preseason game over the New Orleans Saints. We're going to be going over everything that went
down to some updated roster position battles going on, all that and more on today's episode
of Rams Digest. But first, welcome back everybody to another episode of Rams Digest. I'm your host
Joshua Feiner. So before we get into today's video, make sure to leave a like on this video
right now for the Rams dominating the Saints 34 to nothing earlier today and for them to go on a
Super Bowl run during the 2026 NFL season. And make sure to share this video with a friend
because it helps out the channel as well. But I do want to get your takes on this as well.
What are your takeaways from the Rams second preseason game? Leave your thoughts down below
in the comments and are there more roster spots up for grabs than we originally thought? Why for
yes and for no? Leave all your thoughts in the comments down below. I'll be responding as always
and stay tuned to the end of today's video for my answer to these questions. Now we got to get to
today's main story which is about some players that I, an A player I should say, that I really
expected to have a great game last week but did not. But this week he came through the game plan,
shifted a little bit which I think was the right call for the Rams and that player is
CJ Daniels. He was a guy that I expected to get a lot of run, a lot of targets in the first
preseason game against the Chiefs. That didn't really happen but today against the Saints he
had an amazing game and just going over his stats from the game today just really show you why the
Rams picked him up late in the draft. He had eight catches, 68 yards, eight and a half yards per catch,
13 targets. Again some of the throws were a little bit behind him especially on a
deflected ball but overall CJ Daniels showing you his strong hands as well. 6-2, 2-0-2. Again
we've seen him all throughout college have very strong hands in the threat in the red zone. Again
the threat in the red zone was not really a thing today but that is okay. Huge strides for CJ
Daniels. Something I am very very happy to see. Something I wanted to see last week that the Rams
get him more involved. They do. He was their leading receiver and he looks like one of the
best players on the field. Again the one thing I'd like to see him get better at is some elusivity. I
do think that was lacking a tiny bit but overall he was able to show his size, show his strong
hands, good route tree ability as well and he was blocking. He was getting his hands dirty. We heard
Rob Havenstein talking about it all on the broadcast. Really just going over how important
it is for these Rams players especially on offense to be, only on offense, to be great blockers and
CJ Daniels was showing you that and that is very important here this preseason. I believe he should
be the wide receiver three. I think he has the highest upside there but as of right now it looks
like it's a two-man race between Muffin and Whittington. The fact that neither of them played
today but CJ Daniels very nice to see him have a positive game after what I thought was a very
lackluster week one. Again some of that was due to the game plan and coaching but I've been very
happy with what he did today and now in my opinion a guy who has just been turning heads
all of training camp. I was not hip to him early on in camp but I am now and that is undrafted
rookie edge rusher Wesley Bailey. All right this guy just flies all over the field. It is so fun
to watch. Undrafted out of Louisville he had the key force fumble in the end zone as well as a
in the game. Again Wesley Bailey as I said flies all over the field. He plays with intensity and
he's making a push to make this roster something I did not expect but I legitimately think there
is a chance for him to make this roster again if we go over his stats from today's game. Wesley
Bailey on the game was just awesome as I said making an impact in every which way he could.
He's 6'5 265 again the sack earlier the sack in the game as well as the force fumble.
Again he only had six sacks last year at Louisville 15 and a half for his college
career but again some of that he had some injuries and didn't play as much but in 2025
had a very very complete season at six sacks there and again the big thing for him is finishing place
he has the athleticism again the length 6'5 260 the rams really value his length at the edge
rusher position and I can't blame him he has looked awesome throughout this training camp
and I really think that he is making a push with Desjuan Johnson a guy who's been there for
a while now and someone who's kind of become a fan favorite as of late really if you think
about Desjuan Johnson he made a lot of big plays in that Bears game but Wesley Bailey
has kind of outshined him overall throughout this preseason and it's been pretty noticeable
as of late especially in this game we saw Wesley Bailey we heard about him getting reps with the
ones and I definitely do believe that again there's a real possibility Wesley Bailey makes
this roster but if we do look at what Desjuan Johnson did last year the numbers don't necessarily
tell the full story of his season because he made more of his impact late but if we do get in it to
these numbers again he spent three seasons with the Rams Desjuan Johnson and last season he only
played in six games but he had 12 tackles four solo eight assisted two sacks with no forced
fumbles no formal recoveries and no interceptions but overall again just he makes his impact in
other ways that we've seen he's 6'3 270 he's entering year four still just 26 years old
Wesley Bailey coming in in his rookie year is already 25 so again that is something to consider
someone going into year four is only 26 someone going into year one is already 25 so there is
definitely something to be said about this and I do think that it is a potential issue that the Rams
are facing who is this fourth edge rusher what is Wesley Bailey's upside because Desjuan Johnson I
think is kind of stuck in a reserve role but I really think that Wesley Bailey has a little more
upside than what we've seen from Desjuan Johnson however Desjuan Johnson I've seen him doing the
playoffs I do believe he is the better choice for the fourth edge rusher but just a quick update
here on the edge rusher depth here we got Miles Garrett Byron Young Josiah Stewart guys who weren't
playing at all this preseason guys will be on this roster for sure and then we get in it to
the last spot potentially Desjuan Johnson slash Wesley Bailey I do think Desjuan Johnson is still
the front runner but if we do look at what Desjuan Johnson did in the preseason game today he really
didn't do too much in fact he didn't really he didn't play which is a good sign for him the fact
that he did not play that they wanted to see a lot more out of Wesley Bailey or it means they may
keep five edge rushers potentially again we also have to see if Aaron Donald ends up coming back
because then that changes some things especially at the deep tackle position but I do think as of
now there's a real competition for that fourth edge rusher spot as of now I'd lead Desjuan Johnson
wouldn't be Wesley Bailey if he's available after the preseason if he gets cut will be on this
practice squad I'll guarantee you that if that happens if he's available after waivers clear and
all that but I still think there's a shot to keep five edge rushers and Wesley Bailey is on the 53
because he's looked awesome this preseason but now as you probably imagine we got to get to
another star on offense and that was Stetson Bennett I mean Stetson Bennett was running in
for two touchdowns was making some good throws also made some mistakes in there too but if we
look at what Stetson Bennett did throughout the game today 19 for 31 okay completion percentage
181 yards only 5.8 yards per attempt again I would like to see some deeper throws in this
playbook but his connection with CJ Daniels look good Brennan Presley as well again Max
Claire not really a big part of the gameplay neither was Dean Connors which I am a little bit
more I guess uh surprised by the fact they didn't really get too much run because he looked awesome
I wanted to see him get some more run but Stetson Bennett looked awesome in that game especially
running the ball and something I did a bit of research on too were his running stats at Georgia
because it wasn't something I took a big look at but he had 10 rushing touchdowns as a senior in
2022 he's a guy that is a running threat in the red zone and I think that that is something to
consider if you are the Rams and when you're deciding your backup quarterback because Ty
Simpson in Alabama did struggle with his rushing as a quarterback but I do think that Stetson Bennett
showed a lot more today obviously played a lot more today than he did in week one I do think
it's still a battle although Ty Simpson didn't really have too much to show this week but I do
think Stetson Bennett played very well and again whoever is the backup this and this is very
important note does not have a game experience in the NFL regular season Stetson Bennett has a lot
of preseason experience he's had some high highs in the preseason but he has yet to step on an NFL
field in the regular season Ty Simpson a rookie has the higher upside than Stetson Bennett but may
not be ready right now and speaking of that going over what Ty Simpson did in this preseason game
again not too much because the Rams already had a pretty big lead so they were kind of more focused
on running the ball than passing but Ty Simpson 8 for 12 73 yards 6.1 yards per carry so
not yards per carry yards per pass excuse me but overall Ty Simpson looked fine nothing looked bad
but I certainly think that because they were up by so much by the time he came in it was more so
of a running rushing focused game plan which is totally okay so I don't really blame Ty Simpson
they're not really too much to say about him I still think they're neck and neck after what
Ty Simpson did in the first preseason game it might come down in the Charger game to see who gets this
backup QB job and now to our final position group to go over and it is the cornerback room the
battle for CB5 is hot right now we're going to start off with Cam Lampkin who had a lot of big
pass deflections today and some big tackles here in this game against the Saints going over what
Cam Lampkin did in the game versus the Saints he played it pretty well he had six tackles two solo
tackles two passes defense so again he was all over the field in this game as well and going
over what Cam Lampkin did in college he's 5'11 174 so a bit of a smaller corner which again does
concern me if we are going to have him as our fifth corner went to Utah State transferred to
Washington State only has one interception in his career but 18 passes defense at the college level
again something to be concerned about is that height but I do think again it's his third season
with the Rams as well as an undrafted free agent he's been a practice squad a guy for this team so
I do think that he has the edge as of right now on this CB5 battle just because he knows the
defense a little bit better he's been with Chris Shula all three years he's been the defensive
coordinator now as a Ram so I do think he has an an upper hand in this battle but the guy who made
a really nice play in the game today was AZ Hamilton the undrafted rookie out of Fresno
State made a very nice play on a diving interception early on in the game and really
just turned the momentum to the Rams favor it was 3-0 at that point it was a slow moving game
oh interception boom here comes the momentum and the Rams never stopped I think that interception
was the turning point of the game for the Rams to go on the run that they did and dominate the
game as a whole but if we look go over what AZ Hamilton did throughout the game today
AZ Hamilton had six tackles four solo one pass defense in an interception he was absolutely
awesome today as well in coverage and something to note too Hamilton in a college did have some
more interceptions as well as 5'11 186 23 year old rookie you know if we do look at Cam Lampkin
he's 25 entering year three so again pretty similar age wise but Hamilton has a season in
college with 12 passes defense two picks two forced fumbles he had four picks as a senior
two as a sophomore with eight passes defense he's a guy that tracks the ball very well and that is
something we are seeing and it's something that the Rams struggled with a little bit last year
outside of landman was forcing turnovers and AZ Hamilton is a guy at quarterback who can come in
on a whim and potentially force a turnover so it's a bit of a different play style than Cam Lampkin
and slightly taller and heavier which might play into his favor but if we do go in it to the
cornerback depth chart here as of right now you got your two starters Trent McDuffie Jalen Watson
some premier offseason acquisitions you now have Emmanuel Forbes sliding into a CB3 role where I
love him at Josh Wallace looks to be the fourth cornerback and then at five you got Cam Lampkin
slash AZ Hamilton again this one of them is going to make it one of them won't they're not going to
keep six corners on the roster as of right now let it go Lampkin just because of the experience
but again if AZ Hamilton keeps showing off those ball skills because he's a bit taller and heavier
I do think he has a shot to make this roster and this is also just amazing for the Rams because
you are seeing it your depth pieces your end of bench depth pieces even playing the Rams style
of football you can see what this culture does and they're already in regular season form these
these bench players and it's very very awesome to see that they're continuing the standards that
the starters set and now heading into what this means for some coaches for Sean McVay it's just
great it's great for him I mean the culture he's set is trickling down the organization in an
awesome way and it is just great to see but he has some tough decisions looming on who's going to
and then on the Nate Landman side of things as well it's also great to see that his offense
looking good again this is a dumbed down version of it but the fact that the offense has been
pretty efficient especially in this game again your defense helped you out a little bit but
still the fact that they were able to put the ball in the end zone when they got to the red zone more
more effectively than they were in the first preseason game it shows that the depth pieces
are understanding this offense and I think the starters are as well I'm very excited to see
how it looks for the regular season and obviously going over what this means for Chris Shula as well
and it just means that his defense looking good it's exactly what you want to see after the way
that the Rams ended last season Josh and I and a lot of you had some doubts about Chris Shula he
lost out on head coaching jobs because of the way the season ended last year but his defense is
looking awesome again they've had some yards given up on him but that's okay they've held
teams to 12 and 0 they have yet to give up a touchdown this preseason and it is just great
to see these young players and these depth pieces understanding this defense again with the starters
it might be a little bit trickier only because of the fact that you have a lot of stars on that
defense that need to coexist but I do think that what we've seen this preseason is indicative of
what we could see at the Rams peak but as you all know it is time for me to give my answer to
the question of the day what are your takeaways from the Rams second preseason game leave your
thoughts in the comments to me the amount of depth they have it's unreal Brenda Song actually said it
on the broadcast I love that part of the game when she was on but she was talking about how much more
depth we have this year and I fully agree it's not just the star acquisitions and the starters
the depth pieces look great they look committed and that is what we need to win the Super Bowl
and are there more roster spots than we thought up for grabs comment down below right now why for yes
and for no I will be responding as always to me slightly yes I didn't think Desjardins would
have a lot of competition he certainly does with Wesley Bailey you know CB5 as well the D-line
depth pieces as well there are some more roster spots up for grabs that I did not think
would be believe your thoughts on today's video in the comments I will be responding as always
