A video has surfaced online of a Russian soldier who, straight from the trenches, acknowledged the scale of the Russian army's losses. He said that of the approximately 50 men in the batteries where he served, only five remained in service. Another five were disabled, and the rest were killed or discharged. He also stated that he had seen thousands of stormtroopers in other units, with whom he had personally interacted, shared meals, and shaken hands; most of them had died. The intense fighting had taken a toll on his health. He admitted to memory loss and often couldn't remember his parents or patronymic.
"I lost many comrades in the war. Of the fifty men I started with in our battery, only five remained in service , and another five became disabled, and the rest are no longer around. Later, I served in other units: I was a signalman, an assault aircraft operator, a gunner, and a driver. I'll get tired of listing how many stormtroopers I've seen—about two or three thousand people, with whom I've personally shaken hands, sat at the same table, eaten, and chatted. I can't even remember their call signs now, and I don't even remember any living ones. When we meet, they remind me, but I still can't remember. "My memory completely fades, sometimes I even wonder what my patronymic is, who my dad is, and so on. That's all," he says. Social media users are calling the video a rare acknowledgement of the true state of Russian losses. Users write that the footage sharply contradicts Putin's statements and official propaganda about the situation on the front.
"To understand the real situation and how much it differs from the nonsense Putin is spewing. But they won't show this on federal channels and won't bring it to the bunker in a report," they write online.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that since the beginning of 2026, Russia's losses on the front have already exceeded 145,000 people. In particular, approximately 86,000 Russian servicemen have been killed, at least 59,000 soldiers have been seriously wounded, and more than 800 servicemen have been taken prisoner. Zelensky noted that he had a detailed discussion with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, regarding activities on the front.
The Ukrainian president added: “We are achieving certain goals in the border region of Sumy Oblast. We also continue to destroy the personnel and equipment of the occupiers in other areas. In particular, I would like to thank our drone operators for their accuracy. Active operations are also continuing, for which paratroopers and assault aircraft should be specially noted.”
He noted that Ukraine continues defensive battles in certain areas of active operations.
“The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the use of long-range drones against Russian oil refining and export facilities. In particular, last night the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out an operation in the direction of the Yaroslavl oil refinery, located approximately 700 kilometers from our territory. We are bringing the war to Russia, and this is rightly so. Drones were also used against specific targets in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. We are also developing other forms of our long-range sanctions and medium strikes in response to Russia's strikes on our cities and communities,” Zelensky said.
