He Hid This '53 F100 Build From His Wife For 3 Years
He kept this '53 F100 build a secret from his wife for 3 years. Trent Bloomfield from Findlay, Ohio drove down to GNF100 2026 in Pigeon Forge to show us the Coyote-swapped anniversary gift he pulled off without her ever finding out.
The truck started as a flathead three-on-the-tree driver Trent bought out of Michigan. Solid bones, just some rot around the radiator shroud and a bad spot on the fender. From there it became a full ground-up build with a Coyote 5.0, 10-speed transmission, Wilwood brakes, and Forgeline wheels.
The color story is what really sets this one apart. Trent's wife loved candy apple red, but it didn't play well with the caramel they wanted to work in. So they landed on a three-color palette — Ron Burgundy on the body, copper running through the rails, transmission cover, and engine bay details, and black chrome on the bumpers and shroud. Polished aluminum Forgeline wheels tie it together. The fenders got an inch-and-a-half spacer to widen the stance without going bubble butt.
Trent's builder Bill Spursey handled the fab work, and Foster Auto Body in Fremont, Ohio laid down the paint. A lot of the swap and finish parts came through us — Trent leaned on Spencer and Logan throughout the project to source the right radiator setup, headers, oil separator relocation, fuel system, and all the small stuff that makes a build feel finished.
