SO HIGH IN THE SKY | Lake of the Clouds | 09/15/16

Good morning, once again girls. Are we getting ready for another day of adventure? It's another day of adventure. Nora's over here hanging out on the line. Yeah, are they playing too rough for you? Everybody's playing now. Even Oscar came to join the play. Yeah You guys are ready to go hiking, aren't you? Like we are ready. Banana, go get her. Go get Nora. Go get her. Memphis is like... She's like, I don't know. I don't know Memphis. I don't know yet. We're not that close at the moment. Gee, we haven't even gone hiking yet and you're all asleep, but you look so cute. Memphis and Oakley are sharing a bed. Look how cute that is. We're on our way to our first hike. I think you guys are kind of tired from the past two days already, huh? All right, so we are on the next adventure. We are heading to Porcupine Mountains. Look at these hills right in front of us. We're not even halfway there. It's looking pretty. Looks a little cloudy, but it's supposed to clear up. Yeah, there's actually blue sky. I almost put on my sunglasses because it's getting kind of sunny. There's actually blue sky. There's sun. Remember the sun? Oh, wow, that's really cool looking now that we're even closer. Cool. There's a pork in there. So yeah, we are heading to Porcupine Mountains. Otherwise known as the Porky City. We're going towards that city. Ah-ah-noggin. I'd like to hear the GPS pronounce it. Right? The Slaughtered Barraga. Barragaga. Memphis is like, where are we going? You're supposed to be in the back, baby. Get back in the back. Well, don't worry. It'll go away. The semi just took the rock out of our windshield and cracked our windshield. Yep. I told Jessica, I'm like, did you hear that? She goes, yeah. I'm like, did that crack our windshield somewhere? She's like, I don't see it. I'm like, I didn't see it either, but I know that sound. Don't rerun this dead thing over. It looks like a skunk and I won't. Dang it. Now I got a nice little crack in the window. The garage should actually take care of it. I think I have that one glass here. I didn't even look up in the corner. Almost missed us. Cracked windshield. There's the Porcupine Mountains. This is where we're going today, guys. We're driving up into the porcupine. It might blow away if you look way over there. There's sunshine over there. We're hoping that it blows this way. That's what we're hoping. Look, you guys. We found a bear. We're at the visitor center of the Porcupine Mountains. Look how cool that is. There's a little beaver. I didn't see this. Look, there's a baby bear. There's your daddy! I've never seen him pull that hard. I actually couldn't hold him. He's strong when he wants to be. I'm so glad that's not behind a skateboard. Alright, we made it to the Porky's. I bought this super bright sweater because I didn't bring my sweater. I bought Jamie one too, in case he gets cold. We're heading to the opposite end of the park. We're gonna work our way back this way. That's the plan. Hopefully it's clear when we go to the Lake of Paws. It looks like it's gonna clear up. I hope so. I don't have internet. I don't have internet either. This is how you walk three Huskies. You lean back. And you walk. That's how you do it, right? Those girls are like, we can do this. You want two more? I can do it. Maybe not. They probably outweigh me. Girls are on an adventure. We're going to see some waterfalls. Memphis is like, I want to go faster. Back trail. Hey! Where you going? That's not the trail. Don't worry guys. I got my belt. I'm good. Trail. There you go. Good job. Look at these trees. Look at those woods. There's the girls. I got Memphis. This is Jamie's favorite waterfall. But since we've had so much rain, it's flowing like crazy. Wow. That's a lot of water. Right? Watch the tub down there. Right over there, yeah. Cool suspension bridge. And it goes right out that way out to the big lake. Hey! Look at the waves. Look at that lake. Look at the waves. No matter where we go, people always stop and pet the dogs. Banana's swimming in the river. Hey Memphis Belle. Girls having fun. That's hard for me. I can't believe Shelby's doing it without freaking out. Whoa! You can do it! Look at him! You can do it! Alright, this is Manabee's Hole Falls. There it is. All it's glory. We are at Summit Peak. Everybody's getting ready. Oakley did quite a bit of hiking on steps. She's staying behind with Shelby. And Jamie's gonna take this opportunity to feed them. I have Miss Memphis with me. And we are gonna go hike Summit Peak. What you think Memphis? Think we can make it? I think we're crazy, but we can make it. Alright you guys, we are at Summit Peak scenic area. So if you want to learn more about it, you can pause and read the sign. Scroll down to make it so you can read everything. And then here, some more information you can read. We're in the Porcupine Mountain State Park. And there's some more information you can read. And learn some things about where we are. Alright, ready? There's all your friends. Here we go, half a mile uphill. This probably won't be the best thing we did all day. Pose you cover squirrel. Go Nara! Right? Alright, power walking. He was doing so good though. Did he quit? True. He's not gonna quit, it's us who quit for him. That's the responsible thing to do. So that's what it's gonna feel like when you have a baby. How do I walk like this? I got this, the waddle. What, are you ready to go? Memphis is like, I'm ready to go. We gotta wait. Wait for your friends. Memphis, are you fearless? She's like, guys, this is so cool. This is great. We made it to summit peak. That's Lake Superior that you see way over there. All the way over there. An adventure where he was born. Everybody's here. Everybody's resting. Are you going up? We're all gonna make the next hike up. So summit peak elevation is 1,958 feet. We're going. Because I don't know why. We're crazy apparently. Right Memphis? We're going. What do you think Memphis? You made it up all them steps. Now you're looking down. Don't you know the rule honey? Don't look down. She's like, I'm not too sure about this guys. She got ya. Memphis did it. Oh we're good, we're free. Come here. What do you think? Show you what she's looking at. She's looking that way. So we're now at the top of summit peak. It's the third highest point in all of Michigan. It's definitely pretty up here. What do you think Memphis? Now you have no fear? Okay, maybe you do have fear. Now we're all sitting down. She's like, it's not so bad. She doesn't look anxious. Alright, our little powwow is over. We're going down. Back down. Bye pretty view. You can do it. Go on honey. You can do it. I'm so proud of you. Keep going, I'm right behind you. Memphis doesn't like how far down she can see. You did it. And now we're making the trek down the hill. Hey girls, did you girls get a good nap? Huh? Did you get a good nap while we went up there? You both look pretty tired. We made it back. Did you take a nap? I didn't. I snacked. Memphis, you got some water? She's like, I made it daddy. I made it to the top of that peak and I was terrified. But she made it. She made it like almost to the top. We were like the last two steps up and she freaked out. She's like, I don't like this anymore you guys. Thor was behind her so she had no choice. We have made it to Lake in the Clouds. We are gonna go walk up this ramp and go see Lake in the Clouds. Everybody's here. There's Thor. There's Banana. Oscar and Nora are back that way. There's Shelby and Oakley. We're going. Oakley goes up the steps again. We found the river. I found Lake in the Clouds. And a red tree. Right there in the middle. There's Copper Peak Ski Jump right there, Jamie. So it's that way. Go Oakley, go. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Memphis, don't trip Mike. There's the Lake in the Clouds. There it is. Are you gonna look Memphis? Go jump up there and look. Thor's like, I'm going up the mountain. What is it Shelby? Oakley's like, oh that wind feels amazing. Amazing. So pretty. Lake in the Clouds. So that was Lake in the Clouds. And now we might make a stop or two on the way back at the water. I haven't really decided. There's a little mine that I want to stop at. We'll pull off on the side of the road and check that out. There might be a miniature waterfall too in the mine. I don't remember. We're going to the mine. Yes. And then where? Onward. Hi Memphis. So here's the mine. They have it closed so we can't go see in it. But it is definitely full of water. How cool is that? This is the entrance to the mine that we found on the side of the road. So you can actually walk up the trail up there and there's another shaft up there. Used to be able to go in further in here. But it's still pretty cool. Hi. Did you get an apple? Did you get one? Just climb the tree. Let me sit on your shoulders. Jamie got an apple. That one is little. But it's red. Yeah it is. Go ahead. Tell me what you think. Is it good? It's a little soft and bitter. Yeah? Not good? Let's go for the bigger one. Sorry little one. I saw the one big one and I made him jump. I'll leave the little one for the deer. Alright. Let's see if the bigger one is any better. It sounded better. Still a little tart. Next tree. Next tree! So here... Is the information about why they call the Porcupine Mountains, Porcupine Mountains. You can pause it. And read all about it. Thor has his own personal pool. Jamie jumped down the cliff over there. To go look for rocks. Now he's going in the water. That is what you call a true rock hound. He's looking for agates. Pretty much everybody went down but me. I'll stay up here. Keep an eye on all the dogs. Ours are in the Jeep over there. Mike and Brittany's dogs are in the Jeep over there. Thor is having a good time digging. I see him. He's like, this is great! Somebody found a Lake Superior agate. But it wasn't us. That's a really nice one too. But it's not our rock. It's your rock. He's having a good time being a real rock hunter. That's a pretty good find. That's a good find. I don't know what I'm looking for. I'm just picking whatever... You found a whole bunch of pretty ones. That's definitely a good find. That one has a little eye on it. So Kaj found an agate. But Jamie didn't find any. Now we're heading back to the campground. Jamie didn't find any agates. But apparently there's a pocket of rocks. Which sounds pretty normal. We're heading back to the campground. The sun is super bright. I can see it. It's shining super bright. We made it back to camp. Look at all these lazy dogs. Thor, are you tired? He's like, yeah. You're not tired, are you? You're probably not tired either. You're just faking it. He's waiting. Is that what you're doing? Are you waiting? Oh, you had so much fun today? Banana's not tired either. Wanna go somewhere? I'm up. He's like, oh yeah, we'll totally go somewhere. Where are we going? I wanna go somewhere. Beer run! That's the best thing. No, I'm not feeding my dog beer. Best thing to do in the U.P. What? Disclosures. Right? I do not give my dog beer. Right? What do you think? Can you feed me? Oh, cause I have a tail? You have a tail too? That's awesome. When did that happen? Look at little Mr. Oscar. He did so good today. I'm so proud of you. Couch potato. Not today, buddy. You did so good today. Yes, you did. You're amazing. Alright, we are back at camp. Our girls just ate dinner, so they are relaxing. Oakley did amazing today. You did absolutely amazing, Fluffy. You were a champion. You stole her bed though. That's not very nice of you, Shelby. I am making pulled barbecued chicken sandwiches for everybody. Preparing that. They're gonna rest in here for a bit. Shelby's defense. Oakley was laying there first. She wasn't laying on the bed? Shelby was up on the bed. I wonder if that bed makes her a little bit too hot sometimes. She chooses the floor. Could be. I think she likes a cool floor. Did you guys have an amazing day? Oh, it's so amazing. She's so tired. Shelby, how about you? Did you have a good day? She's like, I'm tired. Daddy's tired. We're gonna make some food. That will help us. We got food going on. Awesome. There's all kinds of stuff and mac and cheese. I know, you guys are all probably hungry. All that hiking and... Right? We got food and stuff. We're gonna eat lots of things. The lights look like shiny diamonds in the camera. Food time! See, I can't even see her. It's so dark. Shelby's over there somewhere. Oh, I see her in the fire lights. What was that? Memphis is telling you what she thinks. The smoke is coming right at me. We're all over here chilling in front of the fire. That pretty fire. There's an ember on this piece of wood over here. It's gonna catch this pile of wood over here on fire. The inside over here kind of looks like liquid gold. I know, that's what I said. That's where the marshmallow sweet spot is. It's like right here looks really pretty. Yeah, as I walk through smoke. I don't know, we should. We should? Cause that looks like a marshmallow sweet spot. Look at these sleepy dogs. Oh, it's a yawn. They had such an amazing day today. Shelby, I don't think daddy's gonna let you stay there. But maybe, maybe he will. Alright you guys, we're going to bed. Shelby, we're going to bed. You can stay laying down. Oh my goodness. We all had a good day. Had some adventure, right? Look, you're yawning too. We might go home tomorrow. We haven't really decided. She's like, will you take me out to pee before I go to bed for good? Oh, good stretch Oakley.
