Banana Brownies | Better Than Banana Bread! Forget the banana bread! Today on Snow Dogs Cooking, Jess and Jamie are turning those overripe, dark bananas into the most incredibly moist and fudgy Banana Brownies. If you have "nanas" sitting on your counter that look a little too far gone, this is the perfect way to use them. These are a delicious hybrid between a rich chocolate brownie and a soft, sweet cake.
We had all the kitchen helpers in the studio today, including a very brave Kira who braved her fear of the oven for some Valentine's Day treats! Whether you are a huge banana fan like Jamie or a "banana sugar" fan like Jess, these brownies are a total win. They are easy to make, even easier to eat, and perfect for a sweet breakfast with coffee or a decadent dessert.
Ingredients 2 very ripe bananas (the darker the better!) 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (floof powder) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 and 1/2 cups sugar 3 eggs (room temperature) 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (Dutch-processed works great) 1/2 cup melted butter 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (optional)
Tips and Tricks 💡 Pro Tip: For the best flavor and sweetness, use bananas that are very dark. If you use frozen bananas, snip the end and use a spoon to slide them out—it’s way less messy than squeezing! 🍪 To make these more "brownie-like" and dense, use half the amount of floof powder (baking powder) or leave it out entirely for an extra ooey-gooey texture. 🧺 If you’re using parchment paper, crumble it up into a ball first, then flatten it out into the pan. It makes the paper stay in the corners so much better! 🍫 Use semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate chips to balance the sweetness of the bananas and sugar. Milk chocolate might make these a bit too sweet. 🥜 Customize your batch! These are amazing with walnuts or pecans, or you could even swirl in some peanut butter for a "Elvis style" brownie.
Kitchen Helper Highlights 🐾 The Cheese Tax: The pups were definitely looking for their payment, but since we were using cocoa powder (which is a big no-no for dogs!), they got special Valentine's cookies instead. 🐶 Kira’s Big Moment: Our sweet Kira is usually afraid of the oven, but she was a total pro today and even hung out in the kitchen while it was on! 🦴 Cookie Crunch: Memphis showed off her serious crunching skills with her holiday treats while we waited for the brownies to bake. 🚫 Cocoa Caution: Remember, keep that cocoa powder away from your kitchen helpers! We used carob for their treats, but stayed with the real stuff for the humans.

Look!
Ingredients!
Including
really overripe bananas.
Everybody always makes banana breads and banana nut muffins.
We're gonna make something else today.
Now I would say best kitchen helper ever, but let me shuffle this way.
Oh, are you gonna come over here?
Oh, okay.
Oh, I thought you were keeping dad company because he's working at his computer.
Now best kitchen helper ever is here.
Third best kitchen helper comes out of the blue!
Oh my goodness, I don't have any cheese for you.
I'm sorry and the oven's not on yet.
So I know why you're in here.
Welcome back to Snow Dogs Cooking, where if I can cook it, so can you.
The day I'm filming this is Valentine's Day
and I wanted to make a fun dessert for Jamie and I for Valentine's Day.
Sorry this didn't go up before Valentine's Day for anybody else
that wanted to make it, but make it now.
We're making banana brownies.
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of banana.
I do like banana bread.
I do like banana nut muffins.
I like banana on its own.
So this is going to be interesting.
If this works, this is going to be something
I will probably make far more than I will make banana bread
because, you know, you can only eat so much banana bread.
So we're going to try to make some banana brownies and see how this turns out.
Third best kitchen helper ever is in here watching the Olympics.
You learning how to do like quad jumps and stuff?
Good job.
What are you going to need for this?
You're going to need two very ripe bananas.
Very. The darker, the better.
Now, real quick, the reason behind that is the darker,
the more ripe the bananas are, the more sweet they are.
And that's what we need.
So the darker, the better.
You're going to need three quarters of a cup of all purpose flour,
a half a teaspoon of flour, baking powder, a half a teaspoon of salt.
Where is it?
One and a half cups of sugar, which is a lot of sugar, but we're making brownies.
Nobody said these were healthy.
We said they were brownies.
Three eggs at room temperature.
I'm using farm fresh eggs from Greg.
Two teaspoons of vanilla extract.
You're going to need a half a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder.
I'm using Dutch processed cocoa powder because that's what I had.
You're going to need a half a cup of butter melted.
I'm going to melt this shortly.
I didn't want to melt it too far ahead of time.
And then this is kind of optional, but I think it needs it.
You're going to need a half a cup of chocolate chips.
These are semi sweet.
I would use like a bittersweet or a semi sweet.
I think if you go with a milk chocolate with this and this,
it's going to be too sweet.
So I'm using a semi sweet.
And if you're one of those people who like nuts in your brownies,
about a half a cup of finely chopped nuts of your choice in your brownies.
I am not putting nuts in these because Greg's coming over tomorrow.
Greg, if you're watching this, I'm thinking of you as well.
Greg's coming over tomorrow and he doesn't like nuts.
So I'm not putting nuts in the brownies.
You're also going to need two bowls.
One to mix all the dry ingredients, one to mix all the wet ingredients
and then pre-heat your oven to tree fitty.
Tree fitty? Where's tree fitty?
Three dollars and fifty cents.
Memphis, did you pay that Loch Ness monster?
You ready to do this? Let's do this.
We're going to put all of the dry ingredients right into this bowl.
So that means we're going to put some sugar.
Does anybody else sing that song whenever they put sugar in anything?
So we want some sugar.
We want the flour.
We want the salt.
Did that come out of there?
Let me try that again.
Uh oh. Did my salt sit out for too long?
Let's try again. OK, that was weird.
Same salt, same bowl.
I just barely touched it and it moved.
So salt into the bowl.
Floof powder into the bowl.
Now, why am I doing dry ingredients first?
Because I don't want to mess with that.
That's going to be interesting.
We'll see how it works out, though.
And then, of course, the cocoa powder.
Don't make a mess with that.
Don't let your dogs eat this.
This is cocoa powder, not carob.
Dogs are not allowed to have it.
Of course, I guess if you wanted to try using carob, you could,
but it's going to taste like dirt.
We're going to get down to some whiskey business.
We're going to whisk all of this together.
You really just want all of your dry ingredients to incorporate together
so that when we mix it all, I hope this bowl is going to be big enough.
We're going for it
because I'm mixing my wet ingredients in there and then I'm well, you know,
live and learn, live and learn.
Oh, also, I guess I should say this, too.
You're going to need an eight by eight pan and we're going to line it
with parchment paper.
If you don't plan on pulling your brownies, brownies out
and like cutting them all up, just spray the pan and put it in there.
The parchment paper is such a pain, but I got it in there.
Pro tip, crumble your parchment paper like you're going to throw it away
and then put it in there makes it stay a lot better.
I'm not a pro.
I learned that tip from a pro.
All right, we're going to keep whisking this dry ingredients mixed together.
I should say, don't mix these in yet.
We're going to fold these in last.
So dry ingredients mixed together.
Now we're going to move this out of the way.
We're going to grab this bowl.
We're going to melt this butter.
We're going to mix all this stuff together.
But I think I'm going to squish out Nana first.
That's that's the plan.
Come and deceive me.
But you like bananas.
Don't you want to know that part?
I know you're just cutting it off.
So these bananas were frozen.
Jamie and I are going to try cutting the bananas and squishing it out.
Like, oh, that's so nasty.
That's like sugar.
Trust the process, right? Trust the process.
Is it going to work?
No. Oh, OK.
Well, no, well, I got some of the wet out, at least.
OK, plan number
the knife. OK, hold on.
That's all right.
We got this. Thank you for helping.
Happy Valentine's Day.
I'm not making you brownies.
It's pretty gross.
It smells.
Well, I mean, it is banana.
OK, I'm going to get a spoon and in a flash.
This'll all be ready.
Proof that we didn't like have to mangle it.
So I would say if they're frozen, like snip the edge and take a spoon
and they just kind of fell right out.
It worked out perfect.
Squeezing them not so good.
Squeezing them didn't work as I thought.
They were less brown than me.
Yeah, but we need them brown.
They're really sticky, though.
So that's a lot of sugar.
Yeah. You didn't see how much I put in here.
Through this, we're going to add two teaspoons of vanilla.
All the ingredients will be listed in the video description below.
And then I'm going to crack my eggs into a different bowl before I put them in here
because I'm not wrecking those nanas.
Cracked my eggs into a separate bowl.
They were all great.
Put them right in here with the nanas.
Melted my butter.
Did separate a little bit.
We're going to pour it in here and then we're going to mix all of this together.
Just a little bit.
So I whisked this together.
Now, we're really going to hope this bowl is big enough.
What do you think?
I'm going to use that.
Do I make another mess in a different bowl?
Shoot.
Nope. Get in a big bowl.
Executive decision.
Bigger bowl, better idea.
I mean, yeah, I made one more dish, but you know what I didn't do?
Splash a mess everywhere else.
So we're going to pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
and then we're going to mix them.
I am going to use my KitchenAid mixer.
We're going to go ahead and mix this up, mainly because there was lots of banana chunks still.
We're looking for brownie batter consistency.
And I'm just mixing it on low until it's pretty much all incorporated.
Going to look about that.
Now we're going to take these, ploop them in there, plop them right in.
All of them.
All of them. Get out of there.
And then we're going to fold them in.
As I said earlier, we're going to take this.
We're going to put it in here right on top of the parchment paper.
If you don't want to use parchment paper, spray your pan and then put it in there.
It's in the pan.
We're going to put this in the oven for 30 to 45 minutes, depending.
I am using a metal pan.
I probably should have used a glass pan.
Shouldn't really matter too much.
But we're going to know when it's done when we do the toothpick test.
So into the oven at 350.
Check it at 30 minutes.
Hopefully no longer than 45 minutes. Let's go.
Now at the beginning of this video, you probably heard me say that it's Valentine's Day.
You know what that means.
I have Valentine's cookies that I made for the doggos.
If you want to see how we made these,
these are over on our main channel at YouTube.com slash gone to the snow dogs.
OK, but you got to take nibbles.
You take a nibble nibble.
Since you don't chew, you got a nibble nibble.
That was pretty good nibble broken into pieces.
Hi, second best.
Hi, third best kitchen helper ever.
Hold on. Let me give Memphis the rest of hers.
That's pretty good crunch.
OK, I know technically you should be second
because you're second best kitchen helper ever.
But I'm so proud of Kira for coming in here with the oven on.
Bite it. Take the whole thing.
She's like, I'm out.
I got the whole thing and I'm out.
OK. Ready? Sit.
Good job. Here you go.
A serious crunch.
Look at that crunch. Crunched right down.
Good stuff. See, even though I'm making brownies, you still get something.
OK. Brownies are in the oven.
Now we wait. Let's peek.
Oh, they look like brownies.
We're at 30 minutes, so should be done soon.
All right. It's out of the oven.
I'm going to let it cool here in the pan for a few minutes
and I'm going to take it out and let it cool on this tray.
But it puffed up a little bit.
It looks good. Smells good.
We'll find out soon enough.
All right. It's been a while.
They're nice and cool.
I'm going to go ahead and cut them.
I'm going to give them a try.
They look delicious. They smell delicious.
Let's see what they taste like.
Oh, my goodness.
They look amazing.
They're all like moist and
but it smells like banana.
So we're going to give them a try and see what we think.
OK, here we go.
Here's the side.
Yeah. Don't drop any because there is there is second best kitchen
helper ever here and these are chocolate.
They're very moist.
I can tell when I cut them.
The top is crunchy.
Yeah. OK.
Can you taste the banana?
I thought it was going to be a lot of banana
because you because you can smell it.
Smell the banana.
But it doesn't taste any more than you can actually smell.
Really? It tastes more.
So it's kind of like the perfect blend of banana and chocolate.
Another option for frozen bananas over banana bread.
That might be the moist
moist brownie I've ever made.
Yeah. High five.
Valentine's Day brownies.
It's almost cake like.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh, slow down, sir.
Slow down. I did cut them into little tiny pieces just for you.
Just these ones are a little bit bigger for the photo,
but the rest of them are little tiny pieces just for you.
That's a good brownie. Just say it's good.
Yeah. Good breakfast.
Yeah. Mm hmm.
I think that's a win.
OK. David says I have to try them because I don't like banana.
You guys don't know this.
I don't like banana, but I don't like
banana banana.
I don't like bananas.
You like strawberry or banana?
I like. No, I don't like smoothies.
You don't like banana.
I like banana bread.
I like chocolate covered bananas from the freezer.
I would like to try freeze dried bananas with cinnamon and chocolate.
I like banana sugar.
I don't like like when you pull a banana off the bunch and eat it.
I don't like that.
I love them because you're weird.
Yeah, that's why we have so many brownies.
That is why we have so many.
There's like six more in the freezer.
You're getting more brownies.
You're right, though.
You're right.
That's good.
It makes them very, very moist.
It's more cake like than it is brownie like.
If you want it more brownie like, use like half the amount of floof powder
or don't put any floof powder in it at all, and that's going to cause them
to be more dense.
Yeah, but they might not.
If that's what you like, if you're looking for more of this is like an
in between a cake and a brownie.
Yeah, you need some rise.
You don't need any rise.
Or else it'll burn.
It won't burn.
They'll be great.
They'll be dense and ooey gooey.
They'll just stay ooey gooey.
Yeah, that's how brownies are supposed to be.
This is good, though.
This is good.
Do the thing.
Let us know what you want to see us make next.
All right, you guys, we hope you guys enjoyed today's video.
As always, thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for subscribing.
Stay positive, dream big, and we will see you again soon.
Goodbye, Pawdience.
Do the thing.
I'm sorry, I have chocolate in my teeth.
I don't care.
That was actually really good.
